Illumination Entertainment and Universal Pictures have revealed the first teaser trailer, images and poster for their animated animal movie The Secret Life of Pets.
The fifth fully-animated feature-film from Illumination (Despicable Me, Hop and the upcoming Minions), The Secret Life of Pets is a comedy about the lives our pets lead after we leave for work or school each day. Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri and his longtime collaborator Janet Healy produce the film, which is directed by Chris Renaud (Despicable Me, Despicable Me 2), co-directed by Yarrow Cheney and written by Brian Lynch and Cinco Paul & Ken Daurio.
An animated movie these days just isn’t complete without some cute baby characters, and The Angry Birds Movie is no exception. The main trio of Angry Birds will be led by Jason Sudeikis (Horrible Bosses, We’re the Millers) as Red, a bird with a temper, with Josh Gad (Frozen) as the speedy Chuck, and Danny McBride (This is the End, “Eastbound & Down”) voicing the volatile Bomb.
Supporting them are Bill Hader (Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs) as a pig, Maya Rudolph (Bridesmaids) as Matilda, and Peter Dinklage (“Game of Thrones”) as the Mighty Eagle.
In its various formats, the “Angry Birds” game has been downloaded over two billion times as of this year, with an animated series “Angry Birds Toons” that has collectively tallied three-billion views on numerous platforms. The studio behind this series is Shuka, previously having worked only on the Durarara!!x2 series.
Kestrel Swift has been an anime fan since 1999 and has been getting himself deeper into that fandom ever since.

Also lending their voices to the video game adaptation are Keegan-Michael Key (“Key & Peele”), Kate McKinnon (“SNL”), Tony Hale (“Arrested Development”), Ike Barinholtz (Neighbors), Hannibal Buress (“Broad City”), Cristela Alonzo (“Cristela”), Jillian Bell (22 Jump Street), Danielle Brooks (“Orange is the New Black”), singer Romeo Santos and YouTube stars Smosh (Ian Andrew Hecox and Anthony Padilla). Written by “The Simpsons” alum Jon Vitti and directed by Fergal Reilly and Clay Kaytis, The Angry Birds Movie is set to debut in the US on May 20, 2016.
Having already written masterpieces the likes of Boku dake ga Inai Machi, both seasons of Haikyuu!!, and Usagi Drop, he’s only just beginning his career, making him the biggest name to watch with each coming season. It feels like a more subtle take on Baccano!’s setting than the stylistic chaos that is Narita’s trademark, complete with the studio that formed from the people who brought Baccano! He has a talent for writing character dialogue that feels far realer than the norm for TV anime, and that’s something that can make or break a series all on its own. He has been active on the Fandom Post since it started in 2011 (you may know him as GingaDaiuchuu on the forums) and began writing for it the next year. As all of his works up to now have been adaptations, I was intrigued by the idea of him writing an original series for the first time and how it would measure up to the strength of his adaptive writing. It’s an intriguing time and place to set a story, especially since it’s so rarely used for anime, and with the focus appearing to be on a more serious mood and eventually the inner workings of its characters, there’s hope for Kishimoto’s finest skills to be put to use to make it something truly worthwhile. 91 Days is the first example of that kind of series for him, so it’s time to see how he does on his own.

The unique narrative style that those series share is what makes them fun and special, but with a premise that seems to be treated a bit more seriously, the atmosphere in 91 Days simply allows more subtle character study.
Until then, it’s at least appreciated that it looks a bit better than the studio’s first attempts with Durarara!!’s sequels. This episode is naturally full of setup, but a few moments here and there imply some potential.
That’s hardly high praise for the first original from my favorite active writer in the industry, but there’s hardly anything to go off on right now. This is another Prohibition series, starring bootleggers, the mafia, and all the 1920s slang you could ask for. It seems doubtful, but if it can at least make good use of his talent, I could hardly ask for more.
It’s a rare setting for anime in particular, so having this studio attached is definitely a nod to that fine series that we’ll sadly never see more of even though its less fantastic cousin got to be fully adapted with five cours to Baccano!’s lowly one.
