The teacher of 30 years and registered nurse of 36 years teaches obstetrics and pediatrics in the college’s registered nursing program. Giroux captured those experiences in a statement of educational philosophy included with her teacher-of-the-year nomination.
About Giroux: A registered nurse of 36 years, she has held positions with the UC Irvine Medical Center and has taught and been an administrator at Santa Ana College since 1984. Hands that Heal: International Curriculum to Train Caregivers of Trafficking Survivors provides a comprehensive approach to serving victims of trafficking and educating caregivers so that they may appropriately and effectively provide care and support. Adam is originally from Huntington Beach, CA but currently resides down the street from Vanguard in Costa Mesa. Melany works with freshmen from all states except Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Nevada, Oregon and Washington.
Jonathan is originally from Barstow, CA but lived in San Diego, CA for the majority of his life.
Madison works with freshmen from Los Angeles, all counties in the Central Coast (Monterey, San Benito, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Ventura), Central Valley (Fresno, Madera, Mariposa, Merced, Kern, Kings, Tulare, Tuolumne), and High Sierra Desert (Inyo and Mono) areas.

Ahmed presented on nursing in Duhok, Kurdistan region and Wilson presented on the nursing profession in the United States.
Upon graduating, Kristin pursued international missions primarily in Southeast Asia which eventually landed her a full time career at a non-profit organization in Tustin, California. Since then, he worked in the customer service industry and most recently at a tech based company in Irvine.
As a student she was involved with residence life as a Resident Advisor and co-led a missions trip through the Student Missionary Union to Sri Lanka. While a student at Vanguard, he as was involved in Concert Choir, served as a Student Chaplain in Spiritual Formation for two years and was the Executive Vice-President of Student Government Association. During her time at Vanguard, Darien was a Laguna Hall Resident Assistant (RA), a student worker in the Residence Life office and a part of a missions team to Fiji.
Madison played one year on the Lion Women’s Basketball team, but decided to retire and pursue other activities while at Vanguard. A group of Vanguard undergrad students and over forty University of Duhok nursing students attended the cross cultural lecture.

After four years investing in the community of Orange County, Kristin is passionate about serving and guiding others toward the path of their dreams. Adam has always enjoyed working with youth and has spent time volunteering at his church’s high school ministry, coaching volleyball and working as a house dad for ex-street boys in Quito, Ecuador. As a student, and also post-graduation, she volunteered at Mariners Church in the Children’s and Junior High Ministries. During her time as a student, she was involved as a Frontline leader, VU Rec intern, Resident Assistant (RA) and Senior Board of Director in the Office of Orientation and Transitions. She worked as a student worker with Chapel Accountability, Campus Safety and Undergraduate Admissions. Her passion for Christian higher education began when she hosted prospective students in her dorm and she later became the Housing Coordinator for overnight prospective student campus visits.
The teleconference was a great success with an excellent response that resulted in participation of the Duhok Director of Dept of Violence against Women’s participation during Sandie’s Seminar in Duhok, December 2010, and a visit by our team to his Duhok office and the prison for women and children.
She began working at Vanguard in December 2007 as an Undergraduate Admissions Counselor and has served in various capacities within Enrollment Management as well as serving a year in Student Life. In her free time, Kristin enjoys reading, creative writing, surfing, sailing and exploring all the adventurous corners of California and beyond with her close knit community of friends. He is passionate about empowering student’s in their personal relationship with God and creating a Christ-centered community with those around him. During that time, she developed a passion for helping students bridge the gap between high school and higher education and loves seeing students discover their unique God-given abilities as they use them to impact the Kingdom.
He enjoys all things related to sports and music.  In his spare time, you will find him laughing hysterically with friends and family or working on spoken word poetry. Having always had a desire to work with high school students, Darien welcomes the opportunity to be able to walk through the admissions process with students and families and is passionate about helping each student pursue higher education, while growing in relationship with Christ and understanding his or her story and purpose. Her experience at a Christian university helped foster incredible community and personal growth in addition to an amazing education. Susan has a strong passion for helping studies and families navigate the college admissions process and greatly enjoys seeing students thrive as leaders in the Vanguard community. When not at work, you can find Adam planning his next travel adventure with his wife, at an Angel’s game, cooking or catching up on his TV shows. In her free time, Melany enjoys trying new foods, exploring new places, learning about new cultures, and is newly learning how to play the cajon. She is thrilled to be back at Vanguard and hopes students fall in love with it as much as she did. Kyla is excited to help coordinate campus visits for others to have the opportunity to experience Christian higher education at Vanguard! In her free time, Susan enjoys traveling, listening to NPR, and spending time with her nephews, niece and Labrador, Abby. Darien loves fashion, vanilla chai lattes, baking and spending time with family and friends.
You can catch her hanging out with her identical twin sister and friends or going running in her spare time. Kyla enjoys spending time with friends, gardening succulents, and keeping her fluffy feline friend out of trouble.
