The impending survival mode for Fallout 4 sounds more like the sort of thing that’ll make it feel like a RPG – though I have to admit it doesn’t really sound as appealing to me as it might’ve if I wasn’t growing old and impatient.
Strategy: Intensify decisions involving when to get into combat versus when to avoid it, and also make you think more about what gear to take into combat. As mentioned before, the new Fallout 4 Survival Mode is now available to players on PC for beta testing. This would be a big one, and in many ways could arguably suck all the fun out of the Fallout 4 Survival Mode. It strikes me as odd, that even a complete layman straight from the vault is surprisingly accurate with a firearm, and with the right scope attached to their weapon can still make a killer headshot from hundreds of feet away. You shouldn’t be able to carry as much as you can, or at least the carry allowance should be based as much on size as it is weight.
The console versions of Fallout 4 have just been updated to add the game’s newly released Survival Mode, which adds an all new level of difficulty to the game that requires the player to sleep, eat, drink, and more. The new difficulty level is harder than the hardest difficulty and also prevents players from being able to save whenever and wherever they want to, allowing them only to save at beds, which can be a huge problem in some areas where there are none, forcing players to play very, very skillfully and picking the right perks to ensure they survive the wasteland.
The next DLC for the title, Far Harbor, will release across all platforms on May 19 and will run without any conflicts with the Survival Mode turned on.
The Fallout 4 Survival Mode update will be coming to both PS4 and Xbox One next week, Bethesda has announced. Bethesda announced back in February that a new survival mode would be heading to Fallout 4 which will change the way people play the game by making it more realistic. There’s nothing quite like shitting your pants when you accidentally bump into a raider camp, or finding out that an annoying disease that makes you tired often suddenly progresses to make you take 20% more damage, forcing you to brave the wasteland to make it to Diamond City and find a doctor.


For now, exploring without any companion isn’t really an option for my build, because I need their carry. It seemed like a bunch of fiddly book-keeping and lost gaming time because of the paucity of saving opportunities. Bethesda has also pointed out that PlayStation 4 and Xbox One players will have to wait until next month for this update.

Although it is a lot more lifelike there are ways that it could be improved to make the experience even more realistic. While that sounds like harsh criticism, it’s not – because it was a pretty damned good action shooter with role-playing elements. Combat’s significantly tougher, and threats won’t just appear on your minimap – so you’ll have to be acutely aware of your surroundings. Armour would be of absolute importance, as it would be the only thing between living and becoming a bullet-ridden mess. The harder the hit you survive, the more chance it would leave permanent damage on your body. Let’s assume your sole survivor requires both hands for his weapon and is wearing a military style backpack. Oh, and plan some extra time to get from point A to point B, as there won't be any fast travel for you.
Of course, some of these may make the game completely un-enjoyable and some may in fact be technically impossible but if we’re going for realism only, then they would push the game far in that direction. Difficulty would increase for you, but at the same time you’re enemies would have a much harder time as well. Of course, you could get them all removed by a settlement plastic surgeon, but until then you had to walk around as the living embodiment of your struggle. Even with military training, they may be perfectly happy with a rifle, but a sniper rifle, and making aimed shots from such a distance?
Now, I would have thought that with this in mind you could carry about twelve glass bottles or tin cans, or a teddy bear and three boxes of Abraxo Cleaner. So, in short congratulations Bethesda Softworks you’ve done a good job at getting Fallout 4 Survival Mode kinda where it should be.
