An average adult in the United States consumes 4,500 calories and 229 grams of fat after indulging in snacks and eating a traditional holiday dinner, according to the Calorie Control Council. To curb the calorie counts of some of your favorite dishes, try these tweaks on your traditional holiday fare. They call it stuffing for a reason — most varieties will stick to your ribs (and waistline) and never let go. November 22, 2015 By Brittany Mullins 8 Comments Last year I shared my top 10 tips for staying healthy during the holiday season and hosted a 10 Day Sugar Detox, but this year I decided I wanted to host something that lasts longer and takes a more moderate approach — something to keep us all accountable throughout the holiday season.

I know it can be tough to stay motived throughout the holidays, especially the month of December.
With this idea in mind I decided it’d be fun to host a Healthy for the Holidays Challenge to keep us all (myself included) on track with a healthy habit mindset this holiday season.
We all know what we should be doing to stay healthy — drinking enough water,  exercising, getting enough sleep at night, eating at least five servings of vegetables a day, managing stress etc. Learn more about the challenge, see the ten simple healthy habits we’ll be following and learn how to sign up here. It's hard to resist turkey with gravy and all the trimmings — and for many, the holidays aren't complete without a plateful of pie.
But sweet-toothed chefs bury the tubers in layers of butter, marshmallow, and brown sugar, greatly decreasing their nutritional value.
When she's not blogging, or momming, you'll find her gaming and watching silly movies. She's a total sucker for a silly movie. If I was paid or compensated in some way, I will let you know at the beginning of the post. Well we at The Impeccable Plate believe that eating healthier is easier than you think and we are here to help you this holiday season. You can still enjoy your favorite indulgences this holiday season; just eat them occasionally and in moderation. Especially during the holidays, know that you’ll have more opportunities to eat festive snacks and desserts. Do not eat in front of the TV or computer, or while standing in the kitchen or talking on the phone. As we continue to become increasingly distracted by modern technology, our focus on health can fall to the back burner. Write down everything you eat, look at it, then identify why you ate it – was it hunger, stress, boredom?
We’re hosting a Pinterest Healthy Holiday Challenge that will be FREE, full of goodies & help us all stay accountable this December! That means nothing is off limits in moderation and how you speak to yourself is just as important as your nutrition and workouts. We’ll be checking the Pinterest Healthy Holiday threads everyday to see how you are doing! Feeling energetic, having glowing skin, and being able to get into any outfit you want this season is going to make everyday a little more special and a lot less stressful.
There’s no rules, meal plans or deprivation and the focus of this challenge isn’t weight loss. Just keep filling everything out and clicking continue and it’ll bring up a place for you to enter your credit card.
I was having an issue with the link before and it was asking people for their squarespace log-in. I'm Brittany -- a health coach, personal trainer and lover of all things food, nutrition and fitness. Then, replace the butter with broth, increasing by half the amount of butter your recipe calls for. If you think your family can survive without candied yams and sugar-coated casseroles at the table, try serving baked sweet potatoes with light margarine and a touch of cinnamon.

Then, add more vegetables than the recipe might call for — extra green beans and fresh mushrooms, for example.
Registered dietitian Jaimie Sherry recommends swapping fat-laden doughnuts for an angel-food cake.
If you wish, you'll have the opportunity to connect with a representative, with no obligation. Everything on our menu is already portion controlled and the calories have been determined for you.
If you’re not hungry, wait until you are – just don’t wait until you’re famished because you might overeat. If you tend to get hungry between meals, bring along a 200-calorie, whole grain, high-fiber snack.  Fiber keeps you feeling full longer.
This gives your body enough time to trigger your brain that you are satisfied (not necessarily full). Cocktails, party food, holiday baked goods… it’s easy to get overwhelmed with everything and just decide to take December off and hop back on the health wagon in January. I want you to truly enjoy the holidays, BUT also keep up with your healthy habits so that when January 1st comes around you feel awesome. You can get a total of 10 points each day and you’ll log your points every evening through a challenge website I have setup. If staying healthy isn’t enough to attract you, maybe knowing that there will be cash prizes each week will entice you.
And keep the kids satisfied by packing it with good stuff you know they love, Galeaz says, like pecans, walnuts, cashews, apples, or dried fruits, including raisins. And up the spices, like cinnamon, which has natural antioxidants." To save 150 more calories, make your pie crustless. Most grandchildren will also enjoy nutrient-rich and antioxidant-packed cranberry sauce — the more fruits you can add in, the better. Also, know how many calories your body requires each day and make “room” in your daily calories for desserts vice just making room in your stomach. There are now apps that manage food records, count calories, help you track what you eat and even provide guidance on healthy food choices at the grocery store and restaurants. If you don’t complete one of the habits you simply don’t get a point for it. Each week I’ll check the stats and the top performers will be entered to win a prize. Sounds fun, right? To add more fruit to your sweets table, try a pumpkin-flavored cookie recipe, or a batch with nuts and dried fruits that will keep the kids happy — and healthy.
Unfortunately most Americans eat too much during the holiday season and the result is weight gain followed by a New Year’s resolution to lose the weight.
You can totally enjoy yourself throughout the holidays while managing your stress level and maintaining healthy habits which will in turn, help you to maintain your weight! Simply stick with all your regular healthy habits on the daily, have a couple treats here and there (without guilt) and move on.
