Do you love vegetables and salad, but can’t plant a regular garden?  A salad table is a portable, waist-high table just deep enough to grow salad greens, herbs and other shallow-rooted plants and vegetables. The benefits of planting in a salad table are that you won’t have to kneel down to plant or harvest, weeds are unlikely and rabbits and squirrels won’t as easily disturb your crop.
The salad table can be moved to a shadier area once the weather gets too hot for lettuce in mid to late June, so your plants won’t bolt as quickly.
The table is easy to build with items you can pick up at the hardware store.  My husband bought all of the materials for our salad table for about $60.
To build the basic table, he followed these step-by-step pictures and instructions by University of Maryland gardening expert Jon Traunfeld, and added a few modications. Once the table is built, you’ll need to determine a starting location before you fill it up with dirt and plants. Make shallow furrows using a ruler or stick across the length of a section spaced 4” – 5” apart.
While you probably won’t be able to fulfill all of your vegetable needs with a salad table, you’ll be able to save plenty of money on salad greens and herbs during the entire growing season and have control over whether your crops are organic or treated in any way.

With a large leaf, a few simple materials, and a bit of ingenuity, you can make a pretty garden table. About a decade ago I was inspired by a small project I saw in Better Homes and Gardens magazine. Nothing is as good as creating something by you without taking any assistance from a family member or a friend. I started adding the C screws to the pallet that has to be fixed to the wall or the place of your house.
When the c hooks were in place I used chain to each side of the hook from the c shaped screws on the wall of the house.

You could still grow your salds, herbs and other fresh items without all the stooping, bending, and weeding.  Here are three ideas for build your own or have someone build them for you and and idea of container gardening on a table. Women who are pregnant or nursing, or persons with known medical conditions should consult their physician before taking any herbal products. The shallow wooden box frame has a large surface area and a mesh bottom that allows water to drain.
If you don’t want to dig a garden or put in a raised bed (or if you’re a renter), a salad table will give you more options than container gardening. You can plant a second fall crop of lettuces and herbs by moving the table back into the sun in September. Since we will be able to use this year after year and it will make gardening easier for me, it’s worth the investment. The bins can be rotated to receive the various levels of natural light, or pulled out from the frame for a few hours to get some extra sunshine. If you’re planting it in early spring, start in full sun and move the table to light shade in mid-to-late June (depending on how hot the temperature gets in your area).
I used the gentlest setting on our hose nozzle, which is a mist.  If you don’t have various settings on your hose nozzle, water with a sprinkle watering can so you don’t disturb the seeds. Once your growing season is over, you can cover or store your salad table to protect it from the elements during the winter.  If you don’t remove the soil from the table before storing for the winter, mix in plenty of rich compost and new potting mix in the spring to ensure your next crop will have plenty of fresh nutrients. The article showed how to create garden hose guides out of copper pipe attached to concrete impressions made from hosta leaves.
Set up a flat, sturdy work surface large enough to accommodate an elephant ear leaf, plus a tray for mortar and concrete, and a few tools. Take moist sand (builder’s sand or play sand) and form it into a heart shape about 2 in high. Use a trowel to mix water with mortar (Portland cement and sand) according to directions on the bag. Cut strips of fiberglass mesh tape and lay them on the wet mortar to completely cover the leaf. Place three ¾-in copper adapters on the mesh in a triangular shape (one adapter near the leaf point, and two near the back lobes).
To make the table legs use a pipe cutter or hacksaw to cut three sections of ¾-in copper pipe. Unless you know how to solder copper pipe, mix up copper epoxy according to directions and use a Popsicle stick (usually provided) to smear the epoxy into the adapters. You should exactly know how higher you want it also you should know the exact place where you want to hang it.

I also added some extra hooks along the pallet planks so that gardening tools can be hanged onto it. You will need the SketchUp software to download this drawing and its freely available online.
This easy-to-build table makes the perfect spot for potting and re-potting all those plants you are planning to put on display indoors and out. Everyone should be able to have the pleasure of growing some fresh food and working with the soil. The table will be heavy once you add soil, so you will need someone to help you move it; or add casters to the legs to make the table easier to drag in and out of the shade.
He needed only a few hours in one afternoon to build a basic table without wheels and the construction only requires basic tools. If you’re planting in late May or June, start in light shade, but you may have slower growth with plants that need full sun to start growing. Water your salad table when the potting mix looks or feels dry, and every day once the plants are established and if the weather is warm and dry.
Salad greens grow 4-6 inches in 25-40 days.  Add your preferred fertilizer, if any, per instructions. The copper legs have taken on a verdigris finish, and the tabletops have acquired a little moss and a relaxed acceptance of time. I’ve found a couple of the small (10-pound) Quikrete bags are very convenient and easy on the back. Mix up concrete according to directions and mound it around the adapters and approximately 1 in thick across the rest of the leaf. Working quickly, push your copper pipe sections into the adapters, and twist them to get good epoxy coverage and adhesion. You might want to experiment with some acid washes and concrete stains, but I like the plain-gray concrete just fine.
To create the pallet gardening table the essentials I used were screws, strap hinges, hooks, chain, pallets of desired size and chain.
It can be also used as Pallet potting bench as you can place small pots in this having little plants as it will enhance the overall look of your garden.
This upper shelf is handy for storing empty pots, pruning shears, plants and other essentials. A top panel backed with hardware cloth provides a place to hang tools and materials while you work. If you are planting for a fall crop, the table should be moved back into full sun around mid-September.
Errors will be corrected where discovered, and Lowe's reserves the right to revoke any stated offer and to correct any errors, inaccuracies or omissions including after an order has been submitted.
You can use a driveway or garage floor, but an elevated worktable is easier on the back and legs. Place your elephant ear inside the form, and shape the sand to the outline of the elephant ear. A plastic concrete mixing pan is great, but you can use a wheelbarrow or any clean bucket or tray. If you see any bits of tape after the project is finished, simply burn them off with a cigarette lighter.) The tape strengthens the table similar to metal rebar or wire in a concrete driveway. Angle the adapters out so when the legs are attached, they angle out slightly for better stability. I’ve found approximately 27 in long makes for a good table height, but this is a matter of personal preference. I took out the pallets cleaned them properly and started working on my diy pallet table project. You can decorate your homes, garden, inner, outer areas of house, offices with pallet furniture or any area you live in. Not all drawings have the measurements displayed but you can use the measurement tool in SketchUp to easily and accurately determine the dimensions of each lumber part. My husband and I can move it together, though we’ll probably ask our neighbor to help him if we need to move it very far because it is quite heavy. Pick your spot in the yard based on the date, and fill the table with soil-less potting mix.
It was a wonderful project for me in two different aspects, the first thing is that It cost me little amount and I didn’t had to worry about cost at all and secondly it felt me so proud to complete entire project by myself. Most drawings do not have instructions, its assumed you can build it based on the completed drawing provided.
