Trainers from the NHS have visited North Manchester Sixth Form to give essential first aid training to students on cabin crew courses. The Manchester College Skills Show gave visitors the chance to find out about our courses, have a go at activities, see our current students in action and meet our tutors. The Manchester College and FC United have joined forces to give our local footballing talent the opportunity to develop their skills and gain academic qualifications, with the launch of a joint Football Youth Academy. The Academy will give young people with footballing talent opportunities to develop their skills and improve tactically, technically and physically, with the chance to progress to a football career.
Paul Bright, Sports Development Officer, The Manchester College said: “The focus of the Academy is very much on the individual. The Academy will open its doors to the first group of players in September 2013 at a new state-of-the-art training and playing facility at FC United’s new stadium in Moston. Andy Walsh, FC United general manager, said: “The development of a full-time academy with The Manchester College represents a significant step forward for FC United player development. The Manchester College and FC United will be holding a series of football trials from now until August 2013.
On completion of the two year programme, the students will have access to playing opportunities in FC United First Team, partner football clubs and professional clubs in the North West and beyond.
The Academy will also provide a stepping stone for players into opportunities beyond football playing careers, including higher education, employment and volunteering opportunities. The Manchester College has nurseries at Moston Campus, Openshaw Campus, Harpurhey Campus and Lightbowne Neighbourhood Nursery .
Our nurseries have just been awarded the silver award for the Quality Assurance Framework and are now working towards Gold.

The Manchester College’s Openshaw Campus now has its very own airport terminal and aircraft for students studying on the Cabin Crew & Aviation and Airport Services courses to gain hands on training. The new facility opened its doors to this year’s new students and has been given the big thumbs up by the first group of ‘passengers’. Sophie Dickinson, tutor, said: “Having this new facility at Openshaw is fantastic for the students.
The courses prepare the students for jobs in all areas of aviation, with students progressing into careers within an airport or as cabin crew. The students will be making the annual trip to the Thomas Cook training centre in December, when they will take part in ‘live’ training in sessions such as emergency evacuations and aircraft fires.
