With the recession in full force, many people are saving money any way they can – producing more and more demand for designing, buying and building shipping container architecture.
There are many plans available for you to create your own container home and architects who specialize in residential reuse of cargo containers, but few home shipping container structures to date rival the creativity and functionality of Container City – which makes it an excellent case study for anyone considering creating their own container home.
Constructed with a basic shipping container home floor plans these prefab houses are designed by the most outstanding companies.

In the next photo you can see that the first of two coats of repello is completed on the outside of the angle wall.
The second coat on the outside of the angled wall is just wooden floated (and not steel troweled smooth) because we won’t be painting the wall. Aramis and I were caught up, so he joined the mud crew, helping apply the second coat to the big wall and making it smooth for painting. With the mezcla applied to most of the walls, we can now better see the satisfying geometric shapes in this big room.
In other news, I am thankful that we have so much inside work during these heaviest rains of the rainy season. And finally, The Trash Report — It has been many months since we have generated any real trash. Two plastic bags of scrap foam and a small pile of foam panel scrap await the Thursday morning trash pickup.
And wow, I just noticed that the hit counter at the right of the page has passed the half-million page hits count. Now that we have moved in, have somewhat of a routine, and have rested a bit, it is time to turn up the heat again. Lastly in the window and wall department, we raised another cutout interior wall panel to the back end of the loft, welded it into place, cut a hole for the big window, and welded the window and bars into place.
In the next photo you can see that Aramis and I have completed the security bars in the living room. Because we have such a nice year-round climate, it is easy to blur the difference between inside and outside. Because we have no more wide panels of container siding, we had to make the next panel from several pieces. A lot of the windows still needed the angle iron locking brackets fabricated and welded into place. So with that knowledge in hand, he searched the computer database and disappeared into the stock room. I mention the rain because the road from our house out to the main road gets quite muddy when it rains. The next photo shows the road with about four- or five-inches of new gravel, still in the compacting stage.
Answer: The two coats of repello (stucco) on the M2 (foam building panels) interior partitions in the two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and the laundry room in the container #4 area of the house. We are finally done and today, other than sweeping and washing the floors at the rental house, while Cyn did the laundry, I took the day off! Although very rewarding when the job is done, this is wicked, wickedly strenuous work for all arm and leg muscles. The next photo was taken from the second bedroom looking into the laundry room on the left. The door frames are massively strong and are completely connected to the repello-ed wall; they aren’t going anywhere! With these interior walls ready for paint or tile, this big chunk of the building is now behind us.
Next I plan to complete installing the metal ceiling panels and move on to the floors and windows.
In the next five pictures, at the end of our work day today, I stand in the same spot and pan around the laundry room from looking into the master bedroom to looking into the guest bedroom. Cynthia and I have tacos planned for supper, then we’ll probably stay up way beyond our bedtime, sitting on the edge of our seats awaiting the results of the Stateside 2012 Presidential Election. However now it is time to build walls between the master bedroom and bedroom number two, and we want little or no sound transmission between the two.
Of course Armando is most comfortable with concrete block construction, but the weight of the walls would be quite massive and would put too much burden on the support columns. We decided to use the polystyrene panels covered with a welded wire mesh, locally called M2. Armando was cutting grass for the better part of a week, so I worked solo placing the panels. After months and months of building my shop, the carport, Cynthia’s studio, the gardens, and not accomplishing much on the house itself, it is an extreme morale booster to see the walls taking shape.
There is talk between Cynthia and myself about moving into this part of the house as soon as possible. Having been in construction since I was six, I know that there is a natural rhythm to most construction projects. Having worked six weeks in the yard, Armando has finally finished filling holes, leveling humps, and removing lots of trunks and roots. The floor between container 3 and container 4 is ready for rebar and concrete, but we are holding off on that until we do some more infrastructure in the area.
You can see that the framing for the new wall is placed where the container siding is outward. By placing the wall where the container corrugations go outward, I can now put the Plycem in place and it will make a nice inside corner. Here's a scrap of Plycem showing how it will make a nice corner against the container. At the far end of the container is a hallway; I will cut holes in the container for a doorway from the living room, into the hallway, then into the master bedroom. The next space toward where I am taking the photo from is a half bath, accessed from the hallway. The next, larger space will be a walk-in closet off the master bedroom and studio space for Cynthia’s torchwork (making glass beads), her seed bead stringing, and fabric storage for sewing projects. The final space, the one that I am standing in in the photo above, will be an eight-foot square deposito (storage closet), accessed by the existing container end doors. The above wall happened to be placed above a container floor beam so I couldn’t drill straight down for the hole for the conduit.
By the way, speaking of the wooden floor, the floors in our containers are mahogany, just a tad under one and a quarter inches thick. In the meantime, Armando has been working for two days grinding away remnants of the container siding webbing in container 4. You can see that he is wearing safety glasses (and not-seen earplugs), and the guard amazingly is still on the machine. Next I’m on my way down the mountain to see if I can get the DeWalt angle grinder that Armando has been using repaired.
If you are considering a container house project, I hope that I have given you some good tips from my experience. Once upon a time, you had to buy passage on a freight ship headed out to sea in order to see a stack of containers piled high to the sky all around you. His own home, for example is constructed out of eight used shipping containers stacked on a residential lot. At the more conventional end of the container home design spectrum is this modern-style house that combines concrete, stone, glass, metal and a set of multicolored shipping containers at its core. Building homes, shelters, and survival bunkers from recycled shipping containers is a very economical and efficient way to build your home. Shipping container homes are the PERFECT base to start building you off grid home or cabin. 1280 square foot ranch style home for less than $10,000 in materials. This design, like most others I’ve designed uses a minimalist approach to maximize livable floor space. The two containers off the each side form the outer walls, and contain the bedrooms and bathroom. The rear of the house doesn’t have to be a glass wall, but I like it because it just looks nice, and will give the interior space a large feel opening onto the back patio.
This is a more complex design than my first $10k 1280 Sqft Ranch Style Container Home using two shipping containers, however the cost of extra materials to complete the railing, upper decks, and extra structural materials needed to support the added weight should still have this shipping container home coming in under $40k including the solar panels. The strawbale will be about $5 per bale and we’ll need about 200, so $1000 for the strawbales. Not bad for a 3 story 3000 square foot house… This is cutting it close, and we can find tune these numbers, but this whole system is very doable for under $100k. 4 large helix wind turbines and a solar panel array with 48 solar panels generate a combined power of 44,000 watts. Here is a simple yet practical design I made that accents the simplicity of the shipping container, yet is paneled and sided such that it’s indistinguishable from a traditional contemporary home design. This unit is complete with Solar Power and a Atmospheric Water Generator to supply drinking water and power.
This next design is a spin on the above design, but with a sun deck and sliding glass door atop the ground floor. Cynthia and I haven’t been on a real vacation since before June 2010 when we started this marathon house project. I won’t bore you with all 175 photos that we took, but I do feel the need to account for our time away so that you won’t expect a progress report on the house! The city of Medellin and its three-million inhabitants dwell in a mile-high valley in the Andes mountains. One of the first things that struck us was the large amount of public art throughout the city. Cynthia is standing in the neighborhood of Laureles, named for the Laurel trees that line the streets.
Another favorite, Caballo:Adjacent to the plaza is the former Medellin administration building that was converted to a museum because Botero donated such a huge volume of his art. On my hit list of things to do was to go to Parque Arvi, a several-hundred hectare park just up and out of Medellin.
At the end of the cable car line, we transferred to yet another cable car (an additional fee) that took us up and over the mountain to Parque Arvi. There is so, so much more to see at the park, but until Cynthia gets her hip fixed, walking isn’t that much fun for her. I think that this painting speaks to the culture of drugs and the freeing of the spirit at the end of the seige of the cartels. For all I know, it was a Saturday mornin' photo shoot filled with laughter and intimate moments.
Lilies is a British period-drama television series, written by Heidi Thomas, which ran for one eight-episode series in early 2007 on BBC One. A bulbous plant with large trumpet-shaped, typically fragrant, flowers on a tall, slender stem. The lily is one of the most beautiful and popular flowers in the garden and despite having a reputation for being "temperamental", lilies can actually be very easy to grow. Featuring an Academy AwardA(r)-winning performance by Poitier*, and nominated** for four additional OscarsA(r), including Best Picture, Lilies of the Field is a funny, sentimental, charming and uplifting film (The Hollywood Reporter).
Scrapbooking is a method for preserving personal and family history in the form of a scrapbook. This is an easy-to-follow guideline that will lead you step-by-step to creating a beautiful and quite unusual pointed tsumami kanzashi flower, which special feature is a stripe of a different color fabric inserted into a petal of the flower. This is the first time I have seen this particular flower whcih is named "Centaurea John Coutts ", at least that's what the voice memo I recorded said it was! Again I took this shot on aperture priority with macro and decided not to apply any editing effects or enhancements. While a lot of cargo container homes delight the senses, these few dozen rather austere, bare-bones modular designs somewhat boldly focus on the nuts and bolts, so to speak, of living in a metal box. There is nothing fancy (in a good way) about the fold-down chairs, tables and beds the tuck neatly into walls when not actively needed, opening up floor area and serving multiple uses.Unlike many more-conceptual approaches, there is an appropriate minimalism to the process laid out by this pragmatic Midwestern company.
This project fuses elements of prefabrication and efficiency with style and expressive livability.
Although one of the smaller ones, this one bedroom has a floor plan that is very well defined. Most of our customers can usually find a few modular plans that come close to meeting Reviews their needs. This means more value for your housing dollar, no matter what your housing needs as possible.
Producers have been supplying their esteemed clients modular homes for a considerable length of time with a pledge to quality and consumer loyalty that recognizes each other modular home organizations. Armando, Alex, and new guy Beto started the first coat of repello on the foam building panels that were already in place at the outside of the staircase. We still need to make the door frame and weld some rebar pins to the container to support the foam panels, and then the crew can apply the mortar. Also, Aramis and I found some time to hang the six sliding door panels in the living room west wall. Yes, we have had some metal scrap, but it all went down the mountain to the recycle scrap yard. The most searched for phrases have been DIY sheet metal brake, cutting shipping container walls, and installing doors and windows in shipping container.
All the interior adjoining walls have been removed, the three windows and the security bars are installed, and all four ceiling beams are welded into place. It took four of us to move the bars out of the containers and lift each of the two panels into place. In the previous photo you can see that the hole isn’t all the way to the correct diameter. I recently went and made my way to Central Industrial, a large store that carries all kinds of tools, screws, and various other hard-to-find industrial items. I explained the problem to him and showed him the angle iron and a new drill bit (DeWalt brand), same as I had been using. There are a few dips and holes, and maybe we will be able to afford a few more yards when the dry season arrives. Other projects are in progress and I’ll post soon if our Internet connection remains good.
What takes 36 ninety-four pound sacks of Portland cement, about eight yards of sand, and three weeks of work by one 29-year-old guy and a 60-something-year-old guy? Armando will be cutting grass at the rental and at the new house for the next few days so I will have some time to finish smaller projects such as the outside bathroom door and my sheet metal bending brake. He had to sift the sand, mix it with the cement, deliver it by the bucket full to where we were working, then spread the mortar with me.
They get their deliveries on Friday mornings so I try to schedule my weekly vege run for Friday afternoons before all the weekenders pick the stand clean. I think there has been a re-branding and the name may have changed, but I asked for M2 and the clerk at Hopsa knew what I was talking about. Although the walls go up fast, the tedious part of working with this material is that when it comes time to cut a panel to size, you have to use wire cutters to cut dozens and dozens of wires. The big space that we are dividing with walls will delineate the two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and the laundry room.
Just pass a heat gun or propane torch over the polystyrene and the heat melts a nice groove behind the metal mesh. Then next week when the current spate of national holidays (Day of the Dead where people visit and spruce up the cemeteries, and Independence from Colombia) is over, Armando and another man and I will tackle the stucco. There are periods of time when important work is being done but progress is not very visible. It is nice to be able to walk on the floor and be able to more accurately gauge how the spaces will feel. I have chosen to place the wall so that the framing is in alignment with an outward bend of the corrugated siding of the container.
I’ll probably run a small bead of urethane caulk around the Plycem to seal any insect highway gaps.
This is all working for me because we will have the three-inch thick concrete floor to cover these conduits throughout the entire house.
I brought some PEX tubing with me when we moved to Panama and decided to use it to make the pipe stub-ups.
I insist on it even though most workers here think these safety devices are mere nuisances. I think the switch has given up the ghost; it has had some rough duty during its life on this job. Our goal here is too illustrate the many container projects both big and small that are taking place around the world. Nowadays more and more architects and builders are finding used free or for sale cargo containers at discount prices to construct all kinds of houses, homes and office structures. On top of that he has come up with all kinds of engaging cargo home plans and designs that range from simply, sturdy and easy-to-construct to complex, conceptual, whimsical and nearly impossible to build. The above sequence of shipping container housing structures sits somewhere in the middle.
While they bear little resemblance to their freight-bearing cousins of the sea, each container unit still stands out within the overall design. What if you heard there was a new condo space for sale, but that you had to bring your own condo with you once you buy it?
Some people balk at the idea of living a a shipping container home, but if designed correctly, and smartly, you can design a home which is indistinguishable from traditional homes. From one extreme to the other, cheap and small, to extremely large and extravagant these are some of the most popular home design styles made from shipping containers. 1280 square feet is a good size to start out, and even if you were to splurge a little with more expensive materials you could double the cost to $20k and still have one very affordable, and very nice home.
The bottom back glass wall faces west to catch the afternoon and evening sun, and the top deck is for viewing those beautiful desert sunsets over the mountaintops. The first design is small 2 story, but the second is a 3 story, and the 3rd is a massive Container Castle at nearly 10,000 square feet with at least 8 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms. 4 Stories, consists of 18 40? shipping containers forming a ring around a central atrium like vertical space 32 feet tall by 40?40 (1600 sqft) wide in the center. This contemporary unit has everything the first has, and the addition of and additional 160 square foot sun deck. So it was with lot of excited anticipation that we waited a few months until it was time to travel to Medellin, Colombia. One time I joked to Cynthia that I went out to find a doughnut but the only thing I could find was fitness clubs. This is a world-class, three-story exhibit of the ocean, lakes, streams, and rivers of Colombia.
We liked the area so much that after a week at our first apartment in Envigado, we moved to an apartment in Laureles. Here we are in the gondola going back down to Medellin:Back in Medellin, we were walking by the new Santa Fe Mall in Poblado and decided to take a look. Cynthia liked the Colombia-grown Juan Valdez coffees and I found hot-chocolates made from Colombian-grown cocoa beans.
It turns out that art-graffiti is allowed in many public spaces (as opposed to illegal tagging and spraying of private property). It stands for desire, love, and the metaphysical striving for the infinite and unreachable.
A tea made from the stems and leaves was used to treat various medical problems such as eye infections, stomach disorders, and swellings.
Hidden amongst this mass of green, (which I suspect was rape seed) were millions of these tiny little blue flowers.

This bed in a bag set will add a touch of warmth and it will create a calm and relaxed atmosphere for your bedroom. This book may have occasional imperfections such as missing or blurred pages, poor pictures, errant marks, etc. The structure offers plenty of room for flexibility in terms of interior design and layout. Note the holes in the panels — Aramis and I welded two-inch pieces of rebar to the container wall and pressed the foam over the pins. I’m happy to have shown people what has to be the hardest way to build a shipping container house!
Our process was to remove a wall section, install a beam, then remove the next wall section, install a beam. We used the same homemade hinges that we used on the windows to make these panels open-able for painting and window cleaning. He didn’t believe me and took the angle iron and drill bit into the back room to try it for himself. Indeed, as we approach October, the rains are heavier and longer-lasting than they have been the past few months of the rainy season. So one day I called Melvin, a man who has several dump trucks and drives up and down the main road every day.
A third man could have done all the sifting, mixing, and hauling, leaving Armando and me to specialize with spreading the mortar.

We came home with the pickup stuffed high and long with about 20 sheets and the truck hardly seemed to notice. Additionally, yesterday we moved five coconut palm trees and two other palms (Cousin Christine — yours is being planted this weekend) that we had been holding in a nursery area at our rental house. I framed the walls with the 2x3s as horizontal purlins (a style seen in old barns; the purlins go sideways so that the exterior board siding can be installed vertically). After the Plycem is up, the concrete floor will lock this wall in place, so the screws are only a temporary placeholder. When I got it home, I fired it up, cut a nice round hole in a carriola for the electrical conduit. However, lest you think you need to go the route of hiring a professional, you should know that some do-it-yourself designers like Keith Dewey are making do with their own shipping container home plans. Built around standard sizes, these buildings use a combination of the container cores and conventional wood framing, metal shed roofs and other inexpensive and conventional building materials and construction approaches.
Talk about an extreme DIY project, this shipping container tower design is a great concept for futuristic portable and modular housing. A little bit of creativity, paneling, flooring, and siding and from the street you’d never be able to tell that a container home is made from large steel modular boxes. If you build a traditional home or cabin, and ever have to move, you can’t take your home with you, which forces you to sell it and start from scratch. When you turn a used shipping container into a home, you’re helping contribute to the betterment of the world. Technically, I could add another 8 feet to the width and increase the common area floor space by 33% to 960 square feet, but that would increase costs by $3000-$5000 more in materials. Adding more windows to the south facing side of the home will also capture more of the Sun’s energy. The four stories total a square footage of 5120 sqft not counting the 4 40? towers at each corner of the castle. The primary idea of course being affordability and simplicity, plus the added benefit of a good sized 3 bedroom home design. This 2720 square foot workshop could be built for about $25,000 including foundation, roof, and electrical. The pricing presented here are for BARE BONES materials, does not include freight, moving, crane rental, or any amenities. Anyone is welcome to use this design under an Open Source Creative Commons Share and Share Alike License, with credit given to this page.
Growers arrange flowers on sillas (chairs) and parade from the surrounding pueblos into Medellin. And see that strip of raised dashes down the center of the sidewalks (and nearly every sidewalk in the city)? Here is an Angel fish exhibit:Also at Parque Explora we had fun with a satellite photo of Medellin that is blown up quite large and affixed to the sidewalk.
Over time, he has donated many hundreds of his works, most of which now reside in Plaza Botero and the adjoining Museo de Antioquia (Antioquia is the department, or state, that Medellin and the surrounding area are located in). A taxi driver told us that not only is it allowed, but if need be, the police will put orange cones around the area to protect the artists.

On each side of the basket at the base of the handle, there are wide satin ribbons and thinner satin ribbons that has a center that is decorated with a floral design made of eight faux pearls.
Stopping to fix their leaky farmhouse roof, Homer discovers that not only will the Mother Superior not pay him for the job, but she also wants him to build their chapelfor free! As any other kanzashi, it can have multiple uses starting from the traditional hair embellishment and finishing with scrapbooking or purse decoration. This is an easy-to-follow guideline that will lead you step-by-step to creating a beautiful and quite unusual pointed tsumami kanzashi flower, which special feature is a stripe of a different color fabric inserted into a petal of the flower.

You can see short pieces of rebar that I wove into the wire mesh of the M2 panels; I welded the rebar to the door frame.
These walls were relatively quick and easy, and I used them where sound transmission from room to room was not an issue. Previously I used this material on the electric service entrance wall and on the two flying buttress columns in the carport. The first coat fills all the voids in the corrugated foam panels out to the level of the wire mesh.
That will free up some extra cash every month, Armando won’t have to take time to cut the grass, and it will boost our spirits immensely. Then there are the periods of time when the job seems to be flying and progress is very visible. We planted three of the coconuts by the electric service entrance wall at the southeast corner of the lot. While it would be by no means a free ride to a new home, these standard components combined with used containers would help bring down the costs considerably.
Another very powerful incentive for creating your home from shipping containers is strength.
I’m not sure is this is a good thing in the desert, but, it’s probably good in colder climates. This means you can probably place these in the desert anywhere in the world and still stay cool in 100-120 degree heat. If you shop around you can buy an acre or more of land for about $30k-$40k here in southern California. Each tower level has a floor space of 64 sqft, for a total of 1024 square feet within all 4 towers.
Joggers, strollers, bicycles, roller-bladers, families, people with dogs, teenagers in groups, you name it, they are all out enjoying the tree-lined street that is normally filled with cars, taxis, buses, and trucks. Come to find out, the woman has had two open heart surgeries as has Cynthia, so we all had something in common even if our language communication in Spanish wasn’t perfect. Our hosts at the apartments that we stayed in (we used AirBnB) were awesome in their friendliness and helpfulness.

Hesitant at first, Homer soon finds himself single-handedly raising the chapel and the financing. We believe this work is culturally important, and despite the imperfections, have elected to bring it back into print as part of our continuing commitment to the preservation of printed works worldwide.
Every time I saw container shipping, my inner architect kick into high gear and I started planning and designing homes and cottages in my head. Instant transformation, they are softening that concrete corner. This progress is exciting and a big boost to our moral. Then when I went to cut a second hole, it made a wild clicking sound (relay going bad?) and shut itself down. There is a 10 foot round dome skylight on the roof which lets in plenty of sunlight to grow many species of plants and even trees INSIDE the castle.
The large area at the bottom right of the photo is a major university which adds a vibrancy to the area. We paid our approximately ninety-cents each and boarded the train on the Linea B (the B line). The next photo is the only one I photographed; not bad, but it is not one of the better ones in my opinion.
Although they are known to thrive in the Pacific Northwest, they are worth a try anywhere that Rhododendrons grow, as the Himalayan Blue Poppy has very similar needs. Ferry-Morse Seed Company offers gardener's over 350 varieties of flower, vegetable, and herb seed.
Then those hands--and their owners, Barbra Streisand and 15-year-old look-alike and singing sensation Lauren Frost--ascend a flight of stairs that leads (sestively, at least) to destiny itself. But although hewill not receive a monetary reward, Homer knows that when his work is done, he'll leave that dusty desert town a much better place than when he found it.
We appreciate your understanding of the imperfections in the preservation process, and hope you enjoy this valuable book. So long as international shipping remains as neccessary to the global economy as it is today there will be an abundance of shipping containers that can be reused for architectural purposes. But no mater what I did, when the half-inch drill bit gets partway through, it just stops cutting. When joining panels, you use special crimping pliers and small wire crimps to join wires from the adjoining panels.
With the same ticket, we transferred to Linea A and travelled many stops through the north of the city. Much stronger than stick built homes, and in some cases, stronger than brick or stone homes.
At the appropriate stop, and with the same ticket, we transferred to a gondola cable car that took us up the mountainside of the city.
Tea made of about an ounce of seed to a pint of boiling water and taken with lemon juice and a little honey is often recommended for colds and coughs. The renowned actor is highly entertaining in his combative exchanges with Lilia Skala, playing a Mother Superior who survived Hitler and makes no bones about bullying the goodhearted, itinerant worker into doing more and more for her. I think it would be a fun challenge to create a functional yet beautiful lodge or return of discarded shipping containers.

The film has an ambling, easygoing style with several memorable moments, not least of all is Poitier leading his holy hostesses through verses of the gospel song "Amen." Lilies is directed by the late Ralph Nelson, a pioneering director of live television who also made a number of popular feature films with notable performances (Jackie Gleason in Requiem for a Heavyweight, Cary Grant in Father Goose, Cliff Robertson in Charly) in the 1960s and 1970s. Our comforters come in many sizes, including king comforters, queen comforters, and even California King comforter sets. Each shipping container costs nearly three thousand, so they are really going to make an inexpensive structure. However, even though temperamental, difficult and troublesome, this is a plant worth trying. Who else but Streisand could still pull off such an audacious moment of sentimental psychodrama, the way that only a true star could? Once an item has been purchased at a discounted sale price, no price adjustment will be offered should the item be further marked-down.
We've included everything you need to make over your bedroom such as comforter, pillow shams, and bed skirts. Not only shipping container housing material economy that sounds costless, but they also work well in places prone to extreme weather conditions and problems with termites and insect infestations. Not only will you be rewarded by the fantastic flowers, but you will be the envy of every green-fingered friend in your neck of the woods.
Yet nestled within the autobiographical meringue of the legendary singer's Millennium's-End concert, performed at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas on December 31, 1999, that scene--and many other such self-referential moments reliving the sundry chapters of Streisand's life and career--is quite moving in its laid-bare honesty.
A fuller experience than listening to the double CD of the concert, this video record of a magical night (does anyone remember our collective Y2K anxieties that New Year's Eve?) provides the most bang for the buck when it comes to reliving all those special scenes: surprise guest appearances (Barry Gibb, Bryan Adams, Neil Diamond, and Streisand's son, Jason Gould), duets with Judy Garland and Frank Sinatra (via video footage, of course), an appearance by dance master Savion Glover as Brother Time, a humorous bit with Shirley MacLaine, and several collaborations with Frost.
If Timeless: Live from the MGM Grand was indeed, as Streisand claimed, the first step of a short farewell tour that ended in early 2000, it was the perfect way to exit the stage forever.
