The snowstorm of February 11th-12th, 2014 dumped 4 to 7 inches of snow across DeKalb county.
The National Weather Service will observe the week of November 16th through November 21st, 2014 as Winter Weather Awareness Week in Alabama and Tennessee. While the frequency of extreme winter weather events is relatively small in north Alabama and southern middle Tennessee, winter weather can cause significant property damage, injury, and even death.
Many people travel throughout the winter months (around the holidays) so it is very important to check the weather ahead of time and be aware of any potential hazards. The challenges of winter weather forecasting go beyond predicting when it will snow or how much snow will fall. The historic snowstorm of January 9-10, 2011 dumped 6 to 12 inches of snow across a large portion of North Alabama and Southern Middle Tennessee (8.9 inches was recorded at the Huntsville International Airport). The winter storm of March 1, 2009 also brought a few inches of snow to parts of north Alabama. For security purposes, we ask that you enter the security code that is shown in the graphic. The concept of holidaying in a snow covered location seems like a great fun idea for the family. For anyone who is organizing a white wintertime trip, here is a vacation tip on the best way to get pleasure from your vacation without being snowed in with complications. This may well seem like a lot to bring along but whenever you plan to drive out in the snow on a cold winters day, it is actually safer to take these precautions. Rather than carrying a few thick coats or jackets, decide on extra sweaters and thermal wear which can be layered on for warmth. By doing this you can take off or put on layers depending on the temperature conditions your experiencing. Take ones mobile charger or an additional phone battery to keep connected to the outside world.

Winter can be enjoyable but you must respect Mother Nature and plan for what it can hand out. As soon as the wind blows across your uncovered surface of our skin, it draws warmth away from our bodies. As soon as the wind picks up velocity, it draws further heat away, so if your skin is exposed to the wind, one's body will cool a lot more quickly than it would have on a calm day.
Country life was always a factor when we looked for a place to live, so back in 2002 Heather and I quit our city jobs and purchased a small Country Resort on Halls Lake in the Haliburton Highlands of Ontario Canada.
Our Blog supports resort guests and visitors to the area by letting them know all the things happening in the Haliburton Highlands in order to get the most out of their vacation or weekend getaway.
