November 22, 2011 – On November 21 Unified Cleanroom Construction completed the  construction of the Sensient Colors, Inc. Safety orientation meetings are held for all employees at each new job site, along with weekly jobsite safety meetings and ongoing equipment training programs as the project progresses. Any employee has the authority to shut down or refuse any job that they deem unsafe or at high risk. The safety of our employees and everyone on our job sites, as well as the environment, takes precedence over everything. Modern’s Sandy Karatekeli and Joe Gould, Associate Safety Engineer for Cal OSHA, did a skit of a jobsite heat illness situation.
OSHA Compliance and Safety Training Consultant, Laura Burman, spoke about basic first aid at the jobsite, and the importance of knowing what to do in an emergency. Gary Fowler talked about the dangers to employees, and others on the job site, the liability to the company, and the importance of awareness.
Superintendents are required by Cal OSHA to keep a log, and sharing incidents considered “near misses” is a good learning tool for our safety meetings.


These policies meet or exceed industry standards and apply to a wide range of situations which may arise in the pursuit of our business. Procedures and accident prevention measures are monitored by our safety coordinator, who oversees safety policies and practices at all Unified Building Systems job sites. Stickers outlast weather and abuse.• These safety slogans stickers are not just for hard hats. Modern has a zero tolerance policy, and if alcohol or drug use are suspected on a job site or in company vehicles, the protocol is to notify a superintendent or owner immediately. Unified Building Systems’ safety program encompasses many topics including hazard awareness, emergency preparedness and site-specific protection plans.
Joe then provided interesting data related to heat illness injuries, and reviewed OSHA requirements including superintendent responsibilities, and shade and water requirements. It was a very good exercise to review our basic first aid, and the guys had a little fun with it too.
