The Information Technology Disaster Resource Center (ITDRC) was founded in 2008 to provide communities with the necessary resources to continue operations and recover their technology infrastructure from disaster. The concept was introduced in 2001 following the World Trade Center disaster in NYC, and proposed to congress by Sen. Building upon the original NETGuard framework, ITDRC was established as a nationwide 501(c)(3) non-profit organization; and is currently comprised of hundreds of volunteer professionals with expertise in many technology disciplines. In addition to providing public education to help build disaster resilient communities, our vision is to serve as a vendor neutral clearinghouse for in-kind technology resources and catalyst for connecting NGOs with communities in crisis. To prepare and assist Communities with Technology Continuity and Recovery of Information Systems during times of disaster. Field Disaster Response Teams, supported by remote technology volunteers, deploy to disaster stricken areas to provide temporary workspace, connectivity, voice, video, and data technology assets, and support to aid in the relief efforts. Members of the ITDRC collaborate with both Governmental and Non-Governmental Organizations to improve the community response to disaster.

Smith Transport has invested in a state of the art Disaster Recovery Plan to minimize any downtime for our customers as well as our Transport and Warehouse Operations. The Smith Transport Operations Center is a State of the Art facility designed with digital wall maps and graphs displaying the latest operational information for our Customer Service and Operations personnel.


Smith Transport makes use of an industry leader for its Transportation Software Application. We have also invested in a suite of Optimization tools to assist with decision-making and performance monitoring. Smith Transport equips trucks with mobile satellite communication for automatic vehicle positioning with two way text and data communications.
Local Backups – It is highly recommended all businesses have full, daily backups of all servers, as well as any other important company documents.
BDR Appliance with Off-site Server Virtualization – This robust form of disaster recovery allows for backup of all servers locally and off-site. We harness the collective resources of the technology community to provide no cost Information, Communications, and Technology (ICT) resources; as well as technical recovery assistance to help communities continue operations in times of disaster. We fulfill this mission through education, planning, and disaster response; by a dedicated team of volunteer Technology Professionals and Corporate Partners. We provide informational resources and technical guidance to assist communities, non-profit organizations, and small businesses prepare for a disaster. Our Team of Technology Specialists have extensive experience in technology continuity, and can rapidly deploy to recover a critical infrastructure. These engagements introduce attendees to our organizational capabilities, and provide a forum to share ideas and challenges commonly encountered in community recovery.
Our Principal Data Center consists of two (2) AS400s serving as the primary for our Transportation and Warehouse Companies. The Operations Center is the central hub for all order booking, tracking and driver communication.
This application offers the ability to create customer profiles and orders, dispatch equipment, review order information (current and historical), and provide equipment status and availability.


The application’s decision making features optimized fuel solutions, unit to load recommendations alongside a lane profitability tool. These items promote improved fleet management, streamlined communication while increasing the security and safety of the fleet. The Homeland Security Act of 2002 authorized the creation of a National Emergency Technology Corps of volunteers known as NETGuard, under the Citizen Corps umbrella.
The Remote Data Center consists of two (2) AS400s serving as the back-up for the Transportation and Warehouse Companies. We offer EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) for electronic order tenders, status and billing. Additional functionality of this application includes a general ledger, billing capabilities, and a shop maintenance module. Each Data Center is supported by a UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply) with 45 minute run time in addition to a 125 KW Diesel Generator. The equipment and circuits are sized large enough to conduct the entire traffic load for each facility individually. In the case of a failure with one side of our network at a facility, the smart technology will automatically re-route the traffic to the other circuit; thus minimizing downtime for the facility in addition to our customers. Also, we offer document imaging and indexing, and a weather forecasting map to assist us in avoiding severe weather which could impact service.
