An Incident Response Team is established to provide a quick, effective and orderly response to computer related incidents such as virus infections, hacker attempts and break-ins, improper disclosure of confidential information to others, system service interruptions, breach of personal information, and other events with serious information security implications.
The Incident Response Team is authorized to take appropriate steps deemed necessary to contain, mitigate or resolve a computer security incident. The Incident Response Team will subscribe to various security industry alert services to keep abreast of relevant threats, vulnerabilities or alerts from actual incidents. The immediate actions that should be executed in any of the above emergency are given below. The Emergency Response and Disaster Recovery Team is a single team that would address the immediate first response as well as long term needs during an emergency. The Emergency Response and Disaster Recovery Team, includes a Fire Warden, Deputy Fire Wardens and Searchers, and act as a first response to an immediate emergency that affects the safety and well being of staff. BCM is an holistic management process that identifies potential impacts that threaten an organisation and provides a framework for building resilience and the capability for an effective response that safeguards the interests of key stakeholders, reputation, brand and value creation activities. In some instances the company has gone on to recover better than before the incident occurred. It's important to have an incident response plan in addition to your regular disaster recovery plan. When considering if the situation is an incident or a disaster, a good rule of thumb is to assess the severity of the event and likelihood of it ending quickly. In this guide on incident response planning, learn how to write an incident response plan, what needs to be included, and then download our free sample incident response plan template. Incident response plans are sometimes called incident management plans or emergency management plans.

In practice, incident response plans minimize operational and financial impacts of potential disasters and are typically activated when a local incident manager (or someone else suitably trained) determines that an incident (or out-of-normal condition) has occurred. Good business continuity practice, as espoused by organizations like the Business Continuity Institute and DRI International, includes incident response planning as a key part of the overall business continuity management process.
But there will be situations where the severity of an incident is beyond the capabilities of an incident response team.
Lastly, developing an incident response plan involves company management and a proactive policy regarding business continuity and disaster recovery.

Solid-state storage is most often viewed in terms of performance, but concerns about SSD reliability may be unwarranted. Though cloud archive is seen as an essential piece of cloud storage, there are issues to consider before taking flight. Disk, tape and the cloud all help ensure rapid recovery, reliable retention and data agility. Having the right segments of the business represented on the IRT is as important as understanding an effective team structure.A  The following sample team description addresses both.
The basis of ERP is the risks, which is identified by the company during risk assessment phase.
Various roles and responsibilities should be defined for each member of the team and each team member should receive specific training according to their concerned roles and responsibilities.
It is also responsible for determining the most appropriate responses to situations as they occur. The Incident Response Team’s mission is to prevent a serious loss of profits, public confidence or information assets by providing an immediate, effective and skillful response to any unexpected event involving computer information systems, networks or databases.
The Team is responsible for investigating suspected intrusion attempts or other security incidents in a timely, cost-effective manner and reporting findings to management and the appropriate authorities as necessary.

Business Continuity Management – A process that establishes a secure and resilient business environment with the capability of mounting an immediate and effective response to major incidents. Find out what you should put in your incident response plan with this free downloadable template. Incidents are situations that could turn into a disaster if not handled properly, and are often the first step in detecting a disaster. Either term is acceptable, so long as the plan's composition is consistent with good incident response practice. Incident response plans typically precede more detailed activities, such as  disaster recovery and business continuity plans. A well-organized incident response team with a detailed incident response plan can help mitigate the potential impact of unplanned situations.
Without senior management support, you won't be able to formulate a good incident management plan and secure a well-trained team to respond to incidents. A well organized, step-by-step incident response plan with relevant information at your fingertips will help you get through most incidents.

Provide the relevant facts as they are available, disseminate them quickly, follow up regularly, keep relevant parties informed and resolve incorrect information. Once an incident response plan is complete, review and exercise it to ensure that the documented procedures make sense and the team is equipped to respond according to the plan. An incident response plan should have built-in flexibility to adapt to a variety of situations; this includes who is on the team and access to resources to mitigate the incident.
Be sure to review it with various internal organizations, such as facilities management, legal, risk management, and key operational units. Keys to success include step-by-step incident response procedures, staff trained in incident response, pre-written forms for damage assessment and incident assessment, regular plan reviews and exercises and maintenance of the plan and its various components. If you reside outside of the United States, you consent to having your personal data transferred to and processed in the United States.
For example, if fire breaks out, the emergency response to this incident is to evacuate the building, call the fire department and in the meanwhile try to control the fire by the use of fire extinguisher.  There may be several kinds of risks that could occur and they may also require emergency response plan. The leader of the ERT is responsible for coordination and activation of the emergency response and also for notification to the concerned authorities.
It is more than just organisation and a paper plan, it also requires planning, assessment, analysis, training, rehearsal and more. If it can deal with a disaster or a crisis well it can deal with general everyday business. When an out-of-normal condition in your organization occurs, it must be acknowledged as quickly as possible, assessed as to its nature and severity, and some sort of response initiated. For example, incidents could be something as simple as a leaky pipe, but if the pipe bursts, the situation can quickly escalate into a disaster. Quick response, coupled with well-rehearsed actions, can often save an organization from invoking more complex and costly disaster recovery and business continuity plans. Also, if possible, have local first responder organizations review the incident response plan. It is better to create common checklist for all risks rather than to create separate ERP for every risk.
The leader of the ERP should also be a member of the Crisis Management Team and should report the team through out the emergency response.
Interesting to note that according to a paper from the Cranfield School Management entitled ‘barriers to growth’, it points out that the word ‘crisis’ derives from the Chinese and translates literally as ‘dangerous opportunity’. Introduction of a virus into a network would initially be treated as an incident, as the assumption is that it will be addressed quickly through various software tools and security techniques. Their suggestions should prove valuable and will increase the success of your incident response plan.
However, if the virus proves to be a major denial of service attack, the incident quickly becomes a disaster because the business could be totally disrupted.
