It was in 1977 that the Federal Emergency announced the first blizzard attacking the southern part of Ohio and New York.
Hurricane Mitch facts give the interesting information about one of the deadliest hurricanes in the world. Hurricane Katrina facts present the sad facts about one of the biggest disasters in the American history. The world’s largest snowflake was reported to be 15 inches across and 8 inches thick.  The Guinness Book of World Records states that this giant snowflake was found at Fort Keogh, Montana on January 28, 1887. The town of Capracotta in Southern Italy is reporting that they received 100 inches of snow in 18 hours on March 5th, 2015. 80% of all the freshwater on earth is frozen as ice or snow.  This accounts for 12% of the earth’s surface. I am from Florida, and have experienced snow a number of times but realized that I can not recall ever having seen a snowflake. A small dog plows through fresh snow delivered to Boston, Massachusetts, by a winter storm in 2005.
Which makes us wonder: What's the difference between a bad winter storm and a full-fledged blizzard?
According to the National Weather Service, storms that involve large amounts of snow, winds in excess of 35 miles (56 kilometers) an hour, and visibilities of less than a quarter mile (half a kilometer) are classified as blizzards.
Visibility is the most important element in the mix, said meteorologist Matt Kelsch, with the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research.
Forecasters expect this storm to dump 2 to 3 feet (0.5 to 1 meter) of snow on Boston in about 24 hours, while coastal areas around Cape Cod will get slammed with 20-foot (6-meter) waves and 70-mile-an-hour (112 kilometer-an-hour) winds.
Louis Uccellini, a winter storm expert and newly appointed director of the National Weather Service, said February is notorious for producing major winter storms along the East Coast. But in this blizzard's case, the rapid development of a system off the mid-Atlantic coast, together with a second system coming in from over Lake Eriea€”which will intensify conditionsa€”has produced an especially severe storm. Haiti Earthquake facts provide the information about the earthquake damaged the country few years ago.

The speed of the wind when a blizzard occurs can reach 35 mph.  This blowing snow is very dangerous if you are outside.
Nor’easters is a term used by the people to call the blizzard which occurs on the east coast of United States. Even though you have never seen any snow in your country, you should never eat the frozen snow.
You need to inform the kids on what they have to do when they get caught by blizzard at home or in the street. Avalanches facts provide the information about the disaster that can occur each year in the snowy region. Hurricane Sandy facts give you the detail information about the disaster which made people die and damage many buildings. The snowy region can be interesting scenery to view especially if you always live in a tropical area. Blizzard occurs because the high wind rolls the huge mountain of snow and the fallen sown from the sky. Traveling during the blizzard time can enhance the risk of accident, slippery, hypothermia and death.
You need to provide blankets, flashlight, candles, extra batteries, water and non-perishable food. The winds are always 35 miles an hour or more.  The storm must last at least 3 hours to be classed as a blizzard. What led me to this site was my trying to figure out what the average size of a snowflake is. East Coast, a clash of the titans is underway, with two winter storms merging into what meteorologists are calling a historic blizzard, dubbed Nemo by the Weather Channel. That's difficult to know for sure, said Kelsch, but warming oceans may increase the contrast between warm, coastal air and cooler air over land, which could increase the frequency of storms. National Weather Service reports that the visibility of the people is reduced to ? of a mile within three hours.

I have kind of always assumed them to be like 3inches in diameter, like the decorative ones, but I now realize that is incorrect. The storm took a track from east of Cape Hatteras, NC to a point about 200 miles east of Nantucket Island, MA then north into Atlantic Canada. If you find out a blizzard around the region, it usually is a combination of both conditions.
Many victims were the children who wanted to reach their home after finishing their school hour. So anyway, I was wondering if someone could fill me in on the actual size of an average snowflake?, please and thank you. This was no ordinary storm system, many atmospheric conditions came together just right to cause explosive intensification of this storm off the east coast with a 45 mb pressure drop in just 24 hours recorded! Many of the victims were trapped inside the house because the snow fell around 40 to 50 inches thick. The saving grace for many along the East Coast was the track, as it was far enough out to sea to leave most areas unaffected by heavy snowfall. The exceptions to this were parts of the Mid-Atlantic up into southern New Jersey where 2-7 inches of snow fell and of course along the outer Cape region of Massachusetts where a few locations received over 6" of snow.
Overall, parts of Atlantic Canada saw the brunt of this storm, seeing the highest wind gusts and heaviest snowfall from the storm.
If this nor'easter had taken a track closer to the coast, this very well could have been an historic blizzard up & down the I-95 corridor, with 1-2 feet of snow, huge drifts and excessively strong winds. Below we will take a closer look at this storm system 'by the numbers' and also compare it to other historical East Coast storms.
