United States' Phil Dalhausser, left, and Nicholas Lucena hug after beating Tunisia during a men's beach volleyball match at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Sunday, Aug. Some stick together a€” Walsh Jennings and Misty May-Treanor were the gold standard for three Olympiads a€” but, sometimes, their eyes can wander."It's like high school dating," Dalhausser said after beating Tunisia 21-7, 21-13 on Sunday. Canada's Sarah Pavan, right, and Heather Bansley celebrate a win over Netherlands during a women's beach volleyball match at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Sunday, Aug.
Poland's Monika Brzostek, right, and Kinga Kolosinska celebrate after winning their women's beach volleyball match over the United States at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Sunday, Aug. Jessica Ennis about the resilience she displayed to deal with missing the 2008 Games and cope with the inevitable setbacks each heptathlon throws up. SHE seems to have been around for years but this is the first time Jessica Ennis has prepared for an Olympics in the near-certainty she will be taking part. And, four years on from missing Beijing with a broken foot, she has plenty of motivation to make sure her first Games outing is a successful one.

Too young for Athens in 2004, the heptathlete was the rising star of British athletics four years later only to see her dreams disappear due to injury. But the following year Ennis returned to win the world title and, along with her Russian rival Tatyana Chernova, has dominated her event ever since. Ennis admits: a?˜Although I dona??t dwell on Beijing too much, and the pain from missing that Olympics, it was coming back from that setback and the disappointment that came with it that drove me on a?? and still does now.
As excited as the 26-year-old is to be on the brink of her Olympic debut, it is the steel behind the approachable persona which often goes unnoticed. The only thing harder than two days of heptathlon against the best in the world is the rigorous training regime Ennis undertakes with long-time coach Toni Minichiello in Sheffield.
But, as she acknowledges, if she is to wrest the Olympic title from Nataliya Dobrynska a?? holding off Chernova in the process a?? the key is groundwork.
With seven events each time she competes [Ennis plans to do just one heptathlon before London a?? in Gotzis, Austria, in May] there are plenty of peaks and troughs at each competition. The javelin proved her downfall last year as she lost her world title to Chernova, having thrown 13metres less than her rival.

First, though, she will experience a slight tweak to her preparations as she heads to Istanbul to defend her world indoor pentathlon crown this weekend.
Jessica Ennis was in London to launch the new Powerade Olympic Games Sports Bottle, which will be used to hydrate athletes at the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Fellow American Phil Dalhausser, who won gold with Todd Rogers in Beijing, is playing with Nick Lucena now (after an unsuccessful dalliance with Sean Rosenthal).A beach volleyball partnership is often compared to a marriage, and teams all around the world use the years between Olympics to reassess their couplehood. But the partners also spend so much time together on the world tour that they need to get along off the court, too.True, there are tales of partners who can't stand each other but stick together for the good of the team.
