Here we discuss about some ideas to having gun gear ready if to evacuate in moments notice.
I don't recommend wearing a vest its too militaristic and could cause issues with military or law enforcement that are responding to the disaster. Some things I consider important are a good radio and spare batterys, water purifier, a couple tools for starting fire, basic first aid kit, small supply of food, LED flashlight(I use a Swiss made solar powered model but any that uses common batterys is good too) and of course my Glock and loaded spare mags. That list is prepared combining 23 lists from books, articles and websites and shortlisting keeping practicality in view. Yeah I'm prepared to drill have a cordless Bosch and assortment of 6mm bits and if that fails a prybar. In recent months, I have been evaluating the items I have in my EveryDay Carry (EDC) backpack. I do suggest carrying a few emergency blankets due to their compact size and heat reflecting ability.

Your survival knife is without question one of the top three most important items in your bug-out bag.
I learned this firsthand on a three-day survival trip in which I was not able to bring a modern knife. The best survival knife in my opinion should have a fixed blade – not a folding or lockback style. True, folding knives can be more convenient to carry, but strength is compromised at the folding joint. If you really like folding knives, carry one as a backup, but not as your primary survival knife. With a full tang, 5-inch blade and 10.25-inch overall length, the SOG Team Leader meets the author’s requirements for a fixed blade knife. A sharp knife is actually safer to use and is a more precise cutting tool that requires less energy and time as compared to using a dull knife. However, a knife smaller than 7″ is less capable of performing tasks that require a larger blade, especially demanding jobs. I broke the point off of my favorite survival knife and it drastically impacted the knife’s effectiveness as a useful tool. To those who are new to the concept of a Bug Out Bag, or Survival Bag it is simply a bag with food, water, clothing and shelter enough to last 72 hours on average. I talk about the reasons for and against the actual act of Bugging Out in the face of most scenarios but I like to say that reality always gets a vote.
When I first started officially prepping back at the end of 2008 I was like so many other people and the overwhelming need to get a bug out bag packed and ready to go was an all-consuming thought. I was overly focused on “the stuff” I needed to go into my Bug Out Bag and didn’t give as much thought as to what I needed the bag for in the first place.
Most of you are building a bug out bag as something you can grab and go out the door never to return again and this would be consistent with what the general consensus is for having a bag like this in the first place. Once you know what you need the bug out bag for, you will know what type of bag is right for your needs. If I am being honest, one of the shallow pleasures of prepping for anything is getting new gear. Going camping was a huge eye opener for me and it taught me more about what I needed to pack than any YouTube video could.
Once you have a better idea of what you need to put into your bag, lay all of those items out on a table because the size of your bag is going to need to fit all of that gear. Remember, if this is truly going to be a bug out bag that is ready for you, you should have it packed at all times and ready for you to grab and walk out the door. So you are asking yourself, when is he going to get to the part about how I can find the perfect bug out bag? Most preppers assume that they will be near home if the SHTF, but what if you happened to be traveling?
While you probably won’t manage to get your regular bug out bag past the TSA check point, you can manage to pack a good emergency kit in a carry on by taking advantage of the items that the TSA does allow passengers to bring on board. Not only will some extra socks come in handy if you lose your luggage, but they will also keep your feet warm and dry if you accidentally end up with wet feet.
Imagine the panic if someone on the plane falls out of their seat in a seizure and then starts bleeding from their eyes and nose. In case you get lost in an unfamiliar place, make sure you have a map and a compass in your carry on bag. Fold up a Mylar blanket and add it to your carry on bag to insure that you stay warm if you end up stranded.
Always keep some food on hand and don’t rely on the airline’s little packs of peanuts to keep you well fed in an emergency. After a disaster help from the authorities will come but they cannot reach everyone in a short time. Putting together the supplies you might need after SHTF is the most important part of your family survival plan. Use an easy to carry container to put together your disaster supplies kit like a camping backpack or a cargo container that can fit on your car.
Make sure you always have a smaller disaster supplies kit in your car in case you can’t return home or become stranded.
This need came when I had to purchase a new carry due to a shoulder injury and could not carry my over the shoulder sling pack. The area I live in; it would be difficult to die from the elements with no sheltering equipment. I pack it because its comfortable, keeps me off the ground, or could be used as a light weight blanket.
The fancy knives seen in survival movies are more for prop collectors than for real survivalists. I carry a Spyderco Native locking folder as my everyday carry knife and it will be my bug-out bag backup knife as well.
A knife that is much larger that 11″ isn’t practical for delicate and detailed tasks. He is also the author of the best-selling books Build the Perfect Bug-Out Bag and The Unofficial Hunger Games Wilderness Survival Guide. This bag is almost always in the form of a backpack because that is designed to be worn easily if you need to walk on foot.
That’s a great question but it really comes down to the individual and the situation you are faced with.

Regardless of whether you have any intention of leaving the safety of your home, circumstances you haven’t even thought about might compel you to ditch your plans and strap on that bug out bag to walk into the sunset. I researched a ton of blogs and forums, read books and watched dozens of videos until I knew or thought I knew everything about a bug out bag. What I did do was make a list of everything I needed to have and then I went out and bought it or consolidated it into my bug out pile.
However, we are almost never in any situation, flying out the door blindly running down alleys. This may be to a friend’s house or an old college roommate in another state or Aunt Bunny who lives an hour away.
Can you get by with a day backpack or do you need a larger 4,150 cu size pack to fit everything.
Craigslist and eBay have great deals, but you may end up spending more time (on Craigslist) or end up getting inferior product (eBay). Doing this in the neighborhood might seem odd, although we have a lady here in our neighborhood who does much stranger stuff. If you find yourself in airports very often, then it’s important that you prep with traveling in mind. Here are some items that the airport will allow you to bring on the plane and they can double as life saving survival gear in a pinch. You should have both prescription drugs and over-the-counter medications inside and keep it with you at all times.
Even if you end up in a bad situation with no access to clean water, those little tablets could potentially save your life and give you access to drinkable water.
Plus if you have to walk a long distance, you might end up with blisters so having some extra socks to double up with will pay off big time.
If power goes out, retailers won’t be accepting credit cards and you will be stranded with no access to your money.
Ebola is real and whether or not it is contained, I’m not taking anyone’s word for it when I get on a plane.
Use the sanitizer frequently because you are going to encounter a lot of germs in the airport. No matter where you are traveling, plan ahead and get a map of the area so you will always have a quick reference point if needed. Assuming you don’t end up in a plane crash and you are moving on foot, you don’t want to have to waste time finding food or fighting against hunger.
Having extra supplies , in case of evacuation, will make the difference between life and death and will help you and your family cope better .To be more effective always include all the family in  your disaster preparedness plan. I could have done the opposite as well and only placed in the bag what was essential and leave a pile of other items on the floor.
One is OD green (because if I'm "bugging out" I probably don't want to be seen) and a bright orange HeatSheets Survival Blanket. You don’t know how much you need a good, sharp cutting tool in a survival situation until you don’t have one. It requires more effort and pressure to perform tasks, which leads to erratic carving and cutting.
Seeing as how we are in the middle of Hurricane season (regardless of whether we have seen a significant one yet) it makes sense especially for those living near coastal areas to have a plan to evacuate. Also, this configuration is best for holding weight that all of that food clothing and shelter is going to incur on your back. If you want to pack for a business trip let’s say; you lay out everything if you are like me according to what you are going to do on the trip to make sure you are covered for every contingency.
My pile was larger than the pack I had chosen and when it came time to put everything into the bag I realized I needed to rethink some things. This has nothing to do with vanity, I like to consider myself a gear geek only to the point that trying out new and interesting items that have multiple purposes and could save your life appeals to me. It’s funny how life has a habit of doing that when you are packing almost 70 pounds of gear on your back. It may be helpful to try out a friends backpack first if you don’t have one yourself or go to the store and try them on in person. Well, it should be because if you are like most preppers I know (including me), this will not be your last bag.
These were just like I remembered and are roomy enough to hold anything you can probably need. You may need to buy some camping gear, but this will teach you what works and what doesn’t.

If your kit includes surgical scissors or a scalpel, take them out to avoid any hassle at the metal detectors. Always carry cash in your carry on bag and keep it hidden so no one knows how much you have inside. Plus, that sanitizer has a high alcohol content and it is very flammable if you need to start a fire and have no other options. In case you will have to evacuate, you probably won’t have time to shop or put together the items you need. I chose the former because I was in a hurry to switch bags and walk back out the door which didn’t give me the luxury of time to pack it like I wanted. With that said I wont tell you what you need to pack, other than you need to over estimate what you think you will need. That plan will undoubtedly require packing supplies that you may be forced to live on of for an extended amount of time. Additionally, the bag is going to hold your entire bug out gear to accompany the rest of your supplies. It was very shortly after that my plan started changing and it is with the hindsight of a few more instances like that that I want to share with you some of my mistakes so that it may help you avoid making them yourself.
In the beginning as I was getting my pile of gear together that would save our lives I thought more about what I was acquiring that thinking about what I needed. I recommend that anyone who has plans for a bug out bag take this camping for two nights in the woods.

Take time to shop around for bags and don’t necessarily believe all of the hype that surrounds the mil-spec types of bags.
They aren’t the most comfortable though and if you are trying to stay discrete, having a military style backpack isn’t usually the first thing that comes to mind. LLBean for example makes great bags for very reasonable prices but you can find great closeout prices on last year’s models too. Nobody will know you aren’t training for an extreme hiking trek and it will either show you that you need to lighten the pack or affirm that you have done this part correctly. Any action taken as a result of information, analysis, or advertisement on this site is ultimately the responsibility of the reader.
Just think about how devastating it would be to wind up in a real emergency and all the supplies you need are tucked away in your suitcase in some unknown part of the airport. The TSA does allow scissors with pointed blades shorter than four inches so you can always add a pair of those to help in an emergency. For extra preparedness points, add a collapsible water bottle so you can have a way to transport water if you need to.
It will keep you from inhaling contagious diseases and can also help you avoid smoke inhalation. Even if you live in the middle of the country and the closest coast is a thousand miles away, some emergency event might require that you pack up and leave with very little advance warning. There are a myriad of resources online and YouTube for bug out bag lists or you can read our post on the subject for more detailed information on what to pack in your bug out bag. Is your health good enough that if you strapped 50 pounds of gear to your back, could you walk 3 days if needed? You don’t have to go 50 miles in the wilderness, but take this bag with all of your stuff and hike (so you are forced to carry the bag) into the woods and set up camp. By that I mean the bags that look like they are ready to go to war on the back of some soldier in Afghanistan.
Every six months the food, water and batteries must be replaced to keep in working order your kits. Sometimes, I would sit there and listen to YouTube videos and write down everything was said.
You will be surprised at how quickly you realize the items you have but don’t need and the items you wish you had. These routinely come with price tags over $200 and I don’t think that is necessary for a bug out bag.
Ask them to think of items that they would like to include in their oun disaster supplies kit. A Get Home Bag should give you what you need to make it home from wherever you are, usually work or school. When it was all said and done, I had a huge pile of gear and my bank account was a lot lighter. It is in no way a complete list, or a list of things that need to be included in everyone’s stockpile.
It is here to give you some ideas, and some things to think about when getting started.Reply john sprague March 31, 2012 at 7:58 am Great list!Reply seriously?!?
I know better than to bring a third of the items listed but inside 2 freezer bags near the top of my pack will be my old KJV. I agree with you about him dissing people’s faith but saying that people that follow the bible are of greater worth is kinda arrogant Logan September 8, 2014 at 5:00 pm Did you ever consider that maybe, just maybe he is asking because he is that shocked to see a bible on that list!? I’ve packed the pocket edition of the SAS Survival Guide and a book on edible native plants instead as logic would dictate. There are a lot of other things on that list like the kit and laptop that r just down right not worth taking.
As for slamming on a person that was making a simlpe point is the kind of thing that is braking down Amarica and not the intelegents of the people that live here. The whole thing of a bible is a load of shit and full of lies that men have made seam like it was to be true but that is just what i think yet again.
Huston April 8, 2015 at 7:35 am I thought being of christian faith was to openly and willingly reach out to those that are lost, or not found god, not to judge them because they are not the same religion. You may say that you are a christian but are you really a true believer if you are hating on others and telling them that they just got burned by a christian? Everyone is entitled to their opinion no matter their race, religion, nor their intelligence level. I understand it will help keep refuge when you are out in the wilderness alone, scared and afraid of dying. Honestly this whole thing has been blown out of proportion and it all goes back to one simple question of why should i bring a bible.
It could be used for as an archive for people that are trying to recreate the earth if a major disaster happens. You are a prime example why Religion is the number cause of wars and problems in our society. All you need to do is sit right there with your bible in your lap thumping it… K M March 25, 2014 at 8:07 pm Reading scripture brings blessings! This nation is made up of many cultures and some of which predate the creation of even of Christianity and older religions in ancient Mesopotamia. This country was most definitely founded on Judeo-Christian beliefs, whether or not you believe this is irrelevant because this is a basic fact known throughout the world by anyone with at least a second grade education, I can write this in any color of crayon you choose if it will help you to better understand.
It is clear to all by your misrepresentation of the truth that you are as well educated in history as your ridiculous statement presents you to be.
Please try to have a clue before you open your banjo-picking cousin dating dope smoking sandal-wearing tree hugging liberal pie hole in the presence of truly educated people.
If your comments are stated out of plain stupidity then we all understand you can’t fix stupid, but after all liberalism is a mental disorder…. Hell or even just a good book regardless to distract you.Yes, you are correct that that a bible wont help you hunt or fight off animals but it can help you survive if you use it correctly. Just because people stick up for God doesn’t mean were perfect n dont think your comments are bullshit.
Whether you believe it or not, whether you have all the right things to say to justify your evilness.
The portable stove for example; how would you actually pack that in a bag along with every other item listed and why would you need it?
