Nowadays prepping isn’t just a trending hot topic but a reality that many people are starting to put time and energy into. If you are interested in survival techniques and being prepared for natural disasters, you are probably already aware that you should have a 3-day supply of items in your home that will help see you through the worst. That’s all well and good, but what happens in a situation where your home is right in the line of fire or you are asked to evacuate?
Essentially, a bug out bag is a pack that is filled with all the essentials that you need to see you through a 72-hour period. At this point you are probably wondering what types of items should be in your bug out bag, but it’s actually quite a tricky question to answer.
You also need to take time to think about the specific types of disaster that are possible in your area, as that too can have an impact on what goes in the bag. There are a couple of different approaches you can take when putting together your own bug out bag. Some things might seem obvious to put on a bug-out list, but you might not have thought of everything you need. Below is a solid list of recommendations for items that will come in handy in a number of situations.
What’s your biggest concern about surviving life after an EMP attack destroys our grid? Clearly we can sit here all day long telling you about the vast array of preps that you should have in place, but since I have newborn to tend to and I am already severely sleep deprived, allow me to continue with the 1st essential preps to get your K9 ready for tactics and bugging out. I wanted him to be able to carry a canteen of water, a day or two worth of dry food, and anything else is simply a bonus.  It also needed to be versatile, and capable of working into my existing systems, so Molle Compatible gear was essential in my decision making process.
I like that idea of medical stuff going to the dog because they are lighter and bulkier so they fill up a persons pack more. Yikes, if you dumped Quick stop into a wound I imaging it would cause all sorts of problems. Three things your missing IMO my shepherds both trained aka by work carry three items at all times. We figure that you value your time like most people, so prepping the right way the first time is extremely important. You will still want to have a 72-hour stash of supplies, albeit in a scaled down version from what you might have in the basement of your home.
If that number seems a little random, it really isn’t, as that is the amount of time that the government believes would be required to get utilities and other services back on the grid after a natural disaster of some kind.
There are of course essentials such as food, water, clean clothing, and first aid items that are an absolute must, but there are also things that would be unique to your situation.
Someone that lives in California and has earthquakes to deal with may have a different set of criteria than someone sitting smack bang in the middle of tornado alley. You can very easily purchase a bag that comes fully loaded with everything that you might need, after which you can add items as needed.
Store it in a place where it won’t be blocked by furniture or difficult to get out in the extreme case that damage has affected your residence. Like that pack much more than the one I have for my dogs:) How about some first aid supplies though?
In the veterinary field we use it to stop torn toenails from bleeding, ear nicks that sort of thing.

I write about using a backpack on dogs to carry not only the dog’s supplies but much more at my site and in my book. Yes, sometimes it’s longer and other times it’s sooner, but generally, 3 days is the recommended amount of time that you should be prepared to be in survival mode. For example, if you take prescription medication or have allergies that need to be taken care of, you would have items in your bag that other people wouldn’t have in theirs. This is why you need to put some time and thought into what items you will place in your bag, as one small little thing may end up being the difference between life and death when you are placed in a survival situation. Ideally it would be no more than 10 feet from where you sleep and easy to pull out and run with. Vetwrap, betadine solution, pair of hemostats, and small scissors, white medical tape, quick-stop, asprin, benadryl, immodium, and booties.
I wonder if it is the same stuff that they use for humans or different with a similar name?
Picking the proper items can differ by location and climate – not all bags should be the same. When would I need a Bug Out Bag?Sudden emergencies can put you in a situation where it is much safer to evacuate from your home and get to a safe zone.
If doing that, make sure that you are heavy on the essentials and light on comfort items that you can very easily do without for a few days. I bring him running with me almost everyday, but I don’t think I can fit a tac-vest on him.
Make the bag as easy to carry as possible and put it in a place where you can grab it and go on a moments notice. My younger GSD is a tracker so she tends to venture out site until she finds what shes looking for the issue comes in is finding her from her alert which can be annoying so the gps takes care of that thus she can now just use a passive alert AKA sit and wait.
It is in no way a complete list, or a list of things that need to be included in everyone’s stockpile.
It’s best to be prepared with a detailed atlas which at least covers the counties around your home. It is here to give you some ideas, and some things to think about when getting started.Reply john sprague March 31, 2012 at 7:58 am Great list!Reply seriously?!? Keeping them busy with a book to read or do word search puzzles can temporarily save the sanity of your whole family.Again, these items are an outline of what you may want to include when constructing your own personal bug out bag. We’d recommend doing research and reading what other people are including in theirs, to get a well-rounded list of items to include in your own bag.
It’s also important that this is a bag which you would be comfortable with strapping to your back and potentially walking a great distance. YOU ARE GOING TO WANT TO RELY ON SURVIVING, not putting up a picnic lunch, stringing up a macrame tent system, build a bridge or play your favorite video game… YOU AIN’T GONNA HAVE TIME FOR THAT SHIT! I know better than to bring a third of the items listed but inside 2 freezer bags near the top of my pack will be my old KJV. Animals that are not protected by limited seasons are hunted all…RonBo: Interesting thoughts my friend!

I agree with you about him dissing people’s faith but saying that people that follow the bible are of greater worth is kinda arrogant Logan September 8, 2014 at 5:00 pm Did you ever consider that maybe, just maybe he is asking because he is that shocked to see a bible on that list!? I’ve packed the pocket edition of the SAS Survival Guide and a book on edible native plants instead as logic would dictate.

There are a lot of other things on that list like the kit and laptop that r just down right not worth taking.
As for slamming on a person that was making a simlpe point is the kind of thing that is braking down Amarica and not the intelegents of the people that live here.
The whole thing of a bible is a load of shit and full of lies that men have made seam like it was to be true but that is just what i think yet again. Huston April 8, 2015 at 7:35 am I thought being of christian faith was to openly and willingly reach out to those that are lost, or not found god, not to judge them because they are not the same religion. You may say that you are a christian but are you really a true believer if you are hating on others and telling them that they just got burned by a christian? Everyone is entitled to their opinion no matter their race, religion, nor their intelligence level.
I understand it will help keep refuge when you are out in the wilderness alone, scared and afraid of dying.
Honestly this whole thing has been blown out of proportion and it all goes back to one simple question of why should i bring a bible. It could be used for as an archive for people that are trying to recreate the earth if a major disaster happens. You are a prime example why Religion is the number cause of wars and problems in our society. All you need to do is sit right there with your bible in your lap thumping it… K M March 25, 2014 at 8:07 pm Reading scripture brings blessings! This nation is made up of many cultures and some of which predate the creation of even of Christianity and older religions in ancient Mesopotamia. This country was most definitely founded on Judeo-Christian beliefs, whether or not you believe this is irrelevant because this is a basic fact known throughout the world by anyone with at least a second grade education, I can write this in any color of crayon you choose if it will help you to better understand.
It is clear to all by your misrepresentation of the truth that you are as well educated in history as your ridiculous statement presents you to be. Please try to have a clue before you open your banjo-picking cousin dating dope smoking sandal-wearing tree hugging liberal pie hole in the presence of truly educated people.
If your comments are stated out of plain stupidity then we all understand you can’t fix stupid, but after all liberalism is a mental disorder…. Hell or even just a good book regardless to distract you.Yes, you are correct that that a bible wont help you hunt or fight off animals but it can help you survive if you use it correctly. Just because people stick up for God doesn’t mean were perfect n dont think your comments are bullshit. Whether you believe it or not, whether you have all the right things to say to justify your evilness. The portable stove for example; how would you actually pack that in a bag along with every other item listed and why would you need it?
