Intro: Faraday Cage Phone PouchThis Faraday Cage phone pouch blocks all radio signals coming in or out of your cellphone. There has been a surge of new RFID blocking wallets and other products on the market that are designed to block cellular phone or RFID chip signals in order to prevent their transmissions or stored data from being maliciously intercepted, scanned or used to track your location. Radio frequency identification (RFID) chips hold personal information, which can apparently be stolen by just about anyone with a radio frequency (RF) scanner. I’m no expert in RFID technology or passive data transmission by RF devices, but the whole topic does sort of intrigue me in a conspiracy theory kind of way. Heck yeah!A  In tests with several different cell phones I was not able to call or make any connection to the device once it was put inside the pouch. I have no way to test the effectiveness of the passive RFID shielding, but have extremely high confidence that it will thwart any passive scanning attempts based on what I have seen with the cell phones. It would be cheap and relatively easy to make a similar case out of space blanket material.
I use 3 layer of aluminum foil in the outer bill pocket of my wallet.A  Folded, it blocks all crds in the wallet from being scanned. Easy to test passive RFID, just have someone with an RFID access card for doors at work test it.
Be warned by keeping your phone in a Faraday cage will start your phone on a hunt for a network, this in turn boosts it’s signal strength full bore open which in turn will drain your battery. Just wondering if you could specify exactly what the fabric is you used, or at least what it’s intended use is (by the company that makes it). Neat trick, why don’t you try getting closer to the cell phone towers and tell us all how it worked. Now, keep in mind that there are portable devices like IMSI catchers which can be built for little money and used by anyone and Gossemer, Hailstorm and Stingray devices in use nationwide.
Since Cuben Fiber fabric is not particularly easy for the lay person to acquire, I was wondering if the foil was plain aluminum foil or some other kind of metal. Hey Kuku, they do just that to get your credit card info, then off to the store to make purchases.

When Einstein and the others first refined and purified uranium, they took time off and studied its properties. The copper mesh, like 1 inch chicken wire, worked well in large uses, like covering buildings, and it is still in use today: FEMA headquarters buildings are dome-shaped earth-bermed structures, and under the earth is a copper mesh that extends out from the base and is secured by grounding rods. As an Electro Magnetic Pulse (EMP) travels to earth, whether from a Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) or a nuclear detonation in the atmosphere, it hits and runs along electrical power lines as well, building up voltage and amperage, which is what happened during the last solar storm a dozen years ago, blowing out transformers and leaving 6 million people in eastern Canada without power for weeks.
To prevent that problem, if you have a hard-wired generator, the wiring from the generator to the house should run in conduit that is grounded. Some medium sized electrical equipment can also easily fit into boxes covered with foil for EMP protection. For larger items which cannot be boxed, such as living room TV sets, etc, I tape a Mylar space blanket to a piece of 6 mil black plastic sheet, using double-sticky tape every foot or so to make sure the Mylar stays in place (it is slippery).
The time to build Faraday cages or blankets is NOW, as when they are actually needed it will be far too late.
Chuck’s Stealth Case uses the principle of a Faraday cage to block all radio signals from entering and exiting the case.
Yes!, The head of the National Security Administration (NSA), Keith Alexander, has already admitted before congress that the NSA has used this technology on American citizens. The effect of Chuck’s Stealth Case on your phone is no different than being in a location with no service. This version of Chuck’s Original Cell Case has a nylon webbing strap that allows you to attach the holster to your belt vertically, making the buckle opening open at the top of the case.

During a disaster or emergency situation, you may need to survive an extended period of time without power, city water, or gas. You should keep all of your emergency supplies in one location, in your home (the emergency survival station). Local officials and relief workers will be on the scene after a disaster but they cannot reach everyone immediately. The following contents are items I found important to have on hand, from my research on emergency preparedness.
My husband just got me an LED lantern for Christmas that has a cell phone charger and radio, too.
Your list and wise advice can make a world of difference for any family going through an area wide emergency.

I want to say again, Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us and helping each of us think about being prepared for an emergency. Solar charged path lights make a good substitute for lanterns and can be found at Walmart for very little during the summer months. If it’s cold and snows like it does where I live, you can add some of those packages of hand warmers.
Material costs are about $10, it takes ~ 30 minutes to build, and it can fit in your pocket!
Two recent examples of these types of products that spring to mind are the LOKSAK ShieldSak ($33) and the Nemo EMFX-47 Pouch ($50). They can be found in just about everything these days including passports, ATM cards, credit cards and some of the newer state-issued driver’s license. When I took a device out of the pouch it would search for a network and then be able to receive calls.
It’s essentially foil backed with mylar for strength, that would be a great material to use.
I realized that I have an RFID access card for a particular section I go in occasionally for work, I put it in this pouch and it kills the functionality immediately, even when almost touching the reader. Just make a habit of removing the battery of the phones before passing thru the places where you know rfid readers are, as for passport, people carry it daily!
I clicked on the link and their website lists a couple of different fabrics with similar names.
In fact it is a laminate of three layers; two sheets of Cuben Fiber with a layer of mylar (foil) film in between. I have been searching all over the internet for this fabric and I just can’t figure out what yours is called or where to get some.
They were kind enough to send me a bunch of samples of their available materials, but they do not have a webpage that lists the individual product they make — in fact the foil backed Cuben Fiber was a complete surprise. In Australia (and I would say in most other countries also) local councils hack your bluetooth so they know who is in the area, where they are, how fast they are traveling and how long they are there for.

The generator itself can have the frame grounded for added insurance, but that ground wire MUST be insulated and run to a different ground rod well away from the ground rod for building and conduit!  See the article on EMP and various grounding techniques for electrical appliances, plus grounding metal sheds for generators. With strong, thin cardboard inside to provide insulation, the radio is protected against dust, dirt, etc, and EMP!!!   Stronger and easier to make than a cardboard box covered with tinfoil. My laptop computer, for example, fits easily into a Faraday box made from a box that held reams of paper: the entire lid is removable, allowing easy access to the laptop in its case, but is safely stored when not in use. I leave a 2 inch edge of black plastic showing all around the space blanket, and while taping down the edges I put on a short lead of ground wire.
Each box should be labeled on the ends and the top for the exact appliance they were built for, to eliminate any confusion when they must be protected in a hurry.
Constitution guarantees personal privacy, and every citizen’s right to be free of unreasonable government intrusion into their persons, homes, businesses, and property. Your boss, wife or neighbor can use commercially available software, like Mobistealth, Spybubble and Mobile Spy to track your location. Having no signal may slightly increase or decrease battery life depending on your phone’s hardware and software.
If there ever comes a time when you need them, you will not have to go searching around to find them. I swear by them and know they are what kept Dave, my husband, from getting very ill while we were were camping in the Sahara Desert.
One thing I would add to your list is 2 weeks of clean underwear for each member of your family.
They also require virtually no energy to run, just place them in the sun during the day and bring them in at night. I just happened to have a sample piece of Cuben Fiber that was foil backed, so that was an obvious choice. I guess since this article is a couple years old they’re probably changed the site or available fabric range. For more than that I’ll have to check back to the site and find the exact product for you.
If you walk into any court in Australia, check the screen of your phone as I bet it gets hot after a while. If you reside in an EU member state besides UK, import VAT on this purchase is not recoverable. And we are now into Solar Cycle 23, with solar flares common and expected to continue until the first of next year.

In the course of their work, one of the scientists discovered that simply covering an object with a grounded copper mesh would stop virtually all electromagnetic radiation, whether proton or neutron. If someone could offer me actual EMP test data that an open bottom is OK, I d consider believing it. When it appears that EMP or CME’s are on the way, the blanket can be draped over the appliance, the alligator clip attached to a small, unobtrusive ground wire behind the cabinet, and any electromagnetic radiation will be diverted to the ground wire.
Any electrical appliances not in use should be stored in the Faraday cage, where they will be kept clean, neat, in a known location, and protected against any sudden EMP surge. Both of these signals, radio waves in the range of 0.5 to 6 Ghz, are blocked by the metallized fabric in the case.
Check out this ABC news article, which describes how the FBI used this technology and how the courts allowed this evidence to be used at trial. These programs can be loaded onto your cell phone without your knowledge and used to track your evert move. Service is resumed when the phone is taken out of the case, just as it does when entering or exiting areas where there is no reception.
Some phones will see an improvement in battery life since the phone is not transmitting data, while others may see a decrease in battery life because the phone continuously searches for signals. Additionally, basic services such as electricity, gas, water, sewage treatment and telephones may be cut off for days or even a week, or longer.
We were out of power for 4 days after Hurricane Sandy, and I sure did get sick of sitting in the dark — so the lantern will come in handy. Sew bottom + sides of conductive fabric together using small hand stitches or a sewing machine.2. I would like to use a similar lightweight fabric to make a bag to protect my laptop and travel documents. You can also spray glue mylar straight to fabric for stability, if you don’t want the extra padding.
I then cover the foil with black 6 mil plastic, taped securely in place, to protect the foil from ripping. Happens all the time, now shops are also doing this to see where about in the store you are so they can send an sms to you to promote something.
Sure, we have our windup BayGen radio’s and spare lap top computers, but unless electronic equipment is protected from an electromagnetic pulse, they will be fried! That’s right, they can use your cell phone, without a warrant, to see which political rally you attend, which church you go to, and where you are at any given moment. This means having your own food, water and other supplies in sufficient quantity to last for at least 72 hours. The item to be protected is placed inside the inner box, which acts as insulation from the outer box, and any EMP hitting the foil and is bled away by the ground wire. You never know when an emergency will occur & it could take hours, days, or even weeks to regain utilities, so your family needs to be ready!
I got a jacket made from conductive textile for working in a factory with small elektronic components. Also your cards and passport, people sit on top of bridges in peak hour traffic and scan all the cards and any device with a chip, you don’t have to be 3-4 feet away you just boost the antenna.
If you don’t believe me watch the news, people are being busted in Australia and the USA all the time for this. In fact, I used to work in a building that was an (accidental) Faraday Cage, and it effectively blocked all incoming radio waves. If not, your battery will suffer while continually trying to find a connection with a tower.
Unfortunately, turning your phone on airplane mode, or even turning it off, does not eliminate all of the data going out of your phone. For example, a friend of mine discovered that all phones constantly send out location data.
Most of this data is used harmlessly, like calculating commute times and giving us traffic info.
However, I am an advocate of personal privacy, and I want to control who has access to my phone. If I ever want to know for certain that no one else is accessing my phone and its data, I can put it in the handy dandy Faraday Cage pouch :) Maybe I'll even make one for a laptop! I was under the impression that a Faraday cage device blocks electromagnetic waves from harming the electrical device inside.
I am sure that it could also block radio waves as well, I just haven't read up on that yet.
Also, I am pretty sure that putting your phone on airplane mode will effectively TOTALLY cut you off from being able to send or receive ANY signals, at all, be it directly such as when you attempt to send a text, check email, or watch a youtube video or indirectly such as if you have a weather app and it tells you how many feet of sunshine you can expect that day.
Location services, including the issue I mentioned above, do not necessarily turn off when your phone is in airplane mode. If you are still unsure about this, I encourage you to read the article I linked above, or do some research on your own.
