AJAX - English Frigate1765 AJAX - Launched in Plymouth in 1765, Ajax was armed and supplied five years later, when it sailed for its first trip to North America In 1786, during a winter mission in Atlantic, it ran into a severe storm that seriously damaged it. RATTLESNAKE 1780 AMERICAN PRIVATEER(base and pedestals are not included but may be purchased separately) RATTLESNAKE - The Revolutionary War privateer Rattlesnake was designed in 1779-80 by John Peck, a Boston naval architect. The storm lasted three days but with some temporary repairs, it managed to reach Scotland after a journey lasting forty-five days.
She was launched in Nova Scotia in 1921, and was built as a fishing boat to operate in the rough waters off the coast of Newfoundland.
It was under the orders of Nelson that this ship made history, at the Battle of Trafalgar (1805) in which the Spanish-French fleet was defeated and where he lost his life.
Owned by the English India Company, she was the first trading vessel to be armed with 36 cannon.
The original Rattlesnake was built in Plymouth, Massachusetts, and in style resembled a miniature frigate, which had a separate quarter deck and forecastle.

Within a month, some major repairs were carried out and it set sail to Plymouth.Ajax sailed for the next twelve years but was disarmed and abandoned in the Plymouth navy yards. Very soon her speed became apparent and she won all the great classic sailing races on the American East Coast. In 1921 his mortal remains were taken to Portsmouth where a restoration program was commenced so that it can be admired today.HMS Victory Kit includes everything needed to build except for glue, paint and tools. However, in 1801, the Admiralty was keen to expand its fleet and decided to utilize again some disarmed ships like the Ajax.
They are high quality acrylic based paints that can be thinned with water, thinner or alcohol. At the end of 1802 the ship sailed with the Mediterranean fleet and participated in the Toulon siege with other English ships, amongst which was the famous HMS Victory, commanded by Admiral Nelson. Late in 1781, she was captured by the British frigate Assurance (44 guns) and taken into the Royal Navy as the Commorant (14 guns).

The colors contained in each paint set are based on the colors shown in the picture of the model. Sometime around 1784 she was renamed Rattlesnake after the British discovered they already had a ship named Commorant and soon afterwards was sold out of the British Navy. Kit is complete with masts and spars, silk-screened flags, cotton rigging and all the rich ornamentation of the original vessel. Little is known as to her disposition from here except that she may have ended up as the French ship Le Tonnant as her lines were exactly the same as Rattlesnakes'. Eight cannon grace the deck, and 28 more are visible through the gunports of the lower decks.
