As an experienced Singapore piano teacher, playing the piano for over 17 years, giving piano lessons Singapore for more than 3 years, I believe that the role of piano teachers is not only to have students learn the piano well, but also to inspire them to enjoy the beauty of piano music.
Since 2009, I have been conducting piano lessons in Singapore ranging from young kids to adults, teaching graded piano classes, to recreational piano lessons.
Valerie took her first graded piano examination at the age of 9, while juggling with the academic stress in Singapore’s educational system. Valerie sang as a Soprano in her school choirs since her secondary school days and served as the President in St Anthony’s Canossian Secondary School Choir and as the Assistant Student Conductor in Tampines Junior College Choir as well.
To further her interest in music, Valerie also learns how to play the Keyboard (similar but yet different from piano), and performs with her friends in church. Thus far, she has helped young children to pick up the art of piano playing, fulfill the dream of adults who always want to learn the piano, and even teach pop songs on piano for students who are performing in a month’s time. Other than just piano lessons, Valerie also organize annual concerts for her students to gain experience performing on stage. Valerie conducts most of his one-to-one piano lessons at her home, which is located at Pasir Ris (opposite Downtown East). The length of one piano lesson vary from 45 minutes to an hour, depending on the level of the students.

What differentiates Valerie from other piano teachers is her expertise in teaching classical and pop piano lessons.
Piano students who wants to learn any pop song, simply have to let Valerie know and she will source for the piano music sheet and teach it to them.
Although a piano at home would be good for learning, but it’s understandable that you might not want to get a new one right from the start, as it is not cheap (minimum S$9xxx).
Probably yes, as you’ve known more about her here, than any random piano teacher assigned to you by a piano lesson agency or music school. Probably no, as you might want to know more about Valerie, and let her know what are your specific needs for your piano lessons so she can help you. If you'd like to find out more about my lessons, or would like to work with my teachers, drop me your enquiry here! For children learning to play piano, taking private lessons from an instructor is relatively straightforward.
Adult piano lessons can be challenging to coordinate, so finding the right instructor to work with is imperative. Another important consideration in selecting the instructor for your adult piano lessons is his or her musical choices for your learning. Along with finding an instructor who can be flexible or use alternative teaching methods for your adult piano lessons, it’s also important after the first few lessons to take stock and evaluate things.
Either way, this is something you should check in with your instructor about if you’re feeling frustrated.
Adult piano lessons can be successful for even the busiest of students, as long as you have the right teacher guiding you and motivating you.
I am very interested in taking some piano lessons, but, I first want to know how far I can possibly go. It seems like every time we turn around, a new study has emerged that proves just how important music is to our brains, our emotions, and even our social behavior.
Numerous longitudinal studies indicate that taking music lessons as a child increases brain plasticity, and can help men and women — get this — resist the effects [of aging] and cognitive decline!
Enjoy live interaction and real-time performance with friendly teachers in a fun group setting. This commitment is especially rewarding, as it provides the music student with the opportunity to enjoy, appreciate, and create music for a lifetime.
If you have a private piano teacher, he or she will be able to set up a structured practice schedule that will enable you to see results from week to week as you work on the items that you have chosen together to improve. Schedule a time to practice every day, and try to practice at that same time so that it becomes part of your daily routine.
The player then returns to the beginning of the piece and plays again, until they reach the point of the original mistake, and a€“ surprise! You can watch them as many times as you like, so that you can take in all the valuable tips! For the convenience of students and their families we have also built a waiting room near the teaching area, where one can relax in comfortable and pleasant surroundings. From classical music to jazz music to contemporary music, artists like Mozart, Ray Charles, Glenn Gould, and Harry Connick Jr have revolutionized the art of the piano. Research has shown that children who study music have actually achieved higher math and SAT scores. If you have a specific interest in music style (jazz, classical, rock or contemporary), Lauzon Music’s Guitar School will connect you with a teacher that will further your skills in that area.
You can sign up with music schools, piano lessons Singapore agencies, or private piano teachers. Still learning ballet then, she discovered the love for the piano after a few piano lessons. With her strong background in piano, she also plays the piano accompaniment for her choir in concerts and competitions.
She found her passion in teaching piano, and would love to share and inspire her students in their musical journey.
Valerie works with experienced piano teachers as well and interviews them extensively before inviting them to join her teaching faculty. For example, she has given piano lessons to an adult student who want to learn a Korean pop song on piano – Can You Hear Me by Taeyeon. But do note that Valerie will still conduct basic piano lessons (if needed) to equip students to play the pop songs. Some people start with piano lessons shortly after learning to walk and talk, while others begin learning later in life.
These students need an instructor that works well with the younger generation, can provide adequate praise to support effective learning, and can keep the pace of instruction at a speed that fosters adequate learning as well as enjoyment.
You might have trouble keeping a consistent schedule for lessons every week, or even at all, depending on your work and home life. If you’re most interested in learning popular or contemporary music, an instructor that only selects classical music might frustrate you and make you less motivated to attend lessons. If you follow my simple instructions carefully, and work hard, putting in a little practice every day, then you will learn how to play the piano with grace and agility.

Yes, learning to play piano actually keeps you young at heart, or more specifically, young up top. If, however, you are on your own in setting up your practice routine, there are a few key points to consider. Take breaks when you need them, and avoid practicing for long periods of time without giving your hands (and your brain!) a chance to rest and relax.
You might want to write a note to yourself in pencil above a particularly stubborn mistake area. Our lessons are available in a variety of styles including classic, rock, pop, jazz, blues and more.
It is one of the most popular instruments in the world and has revolutionized the music industry and created guitar gods such as Jimmy Hendrix, Eric Clapton and Carlos Santana. Valerie also has her Grade 8 in Music Theory with Merit in her bag of music qualifications.
The concert is not organized to compete among students, but to let everyone gain stage experience, and of course, a stage to perform for their loved ones.  More about Say It With Music 2014 can be found here. Valerie can refer to you piano teachers who can do piano lessons in the North, South, West, and Central of Singapore.
If your work requires a significant amount of travel during the week, you might not be able to schedule a weekly lesson at all. Again, your teacher should be tailoring the lessons to what you want to learn – if this isn’t the case, it may be time to think about switching to a new private teacher.
It simply takes some practice. One thing you may get hung-up on, is that most pitches (notes) can be played in more thanone place on a guitar fingerboard. Well fear not, because evidence based on research shows that the brain regions involved in creative playing, known in scientific circles as the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (what a mouthful!), are active when a pianist plays an improvisational piece. You must find a method book that contains music that is challenging, but attainable, and that progresses in a sequential way that makes sense. Make your practice space is somewhere calm and welcoming, and try to avoid distractions, like having television playing in the background. They return to the beginning again, and are surprised when they are unable to correct the problem, eventually becoming frustrated.
Work through all of the trouble spots when you practice so that your ability to play the piece improves, instead of making your goal playing from beginning to end without stopping, no matter what.
And if your family requires you to be home immediately after finishing work for the entire evening, this is another reason that weekly scheduled lessons may be tough. While you won’t have the benefit of the instructor sitting next to you watching every aspect of your playing, they are a great alternative for busy students. The right instructor should tailor your lessons around what you want to do and what your goals are. Take the 1st E , above middle C, for example:This same pitch can be played at 5 different places. This brain region has been linked to suppression of stereotypical responses and instead generates more improvised actions. The exercises in your practice method book should be difficult, but able to be mastered with some dedicated effort, and should work toward a purpose. Keep all of your practice materials like method books, metronome, sheet music, and a pencil organized and stored all in one place. Are you satisfied with the way the lessons are progressing and the type of music you’re learning?
To put it in layman terms, this means playing whatever comes to mind on a piano may in fact help you be creative in other aspects of your life, as it triggers the part of our brains that leads to those “Eureka!” moments. Some exercises are designed to teach key signature reading, others improve the extension of the first finger, or other specific hand movements. The point is simply that your practice material is not random songs, but purposeful, short pieces of music that are designed to help you achieve set goals in learning to play piano. Set short term and long term goals for your practice sessions so that you know what it is you are trying to accomplish.
Your practice routine may include elements such as a warm up, scales and chords, lyrical pieces, and sight reading exercises.
You may even set up a schedule that dictates how many minutes you plan to spend on each section of your practice routine. If you have a music teacher, he or she will probably help you with this, especially in the beginning.
When you are comfortable playing the segment up to tempo, put it back into the context of the whole piece of music by starting a little before the hard part and ending a little bit after it.
The more successful repetitions you can achieve, the easier the difficult part will start to become.
