The Penn State Philharmonic presents its final concert of the fall 2015 semester, featuring a performance of Rachmaninoff's third piano concerto with piano faculty member Christopher Guzman. Pianist Christopher Guzman regularly performs for audiences throughout North America, Europe and Asia, as soloist and chamber musician.
Born in Texas, Christopher Guzman began studying piano at age nine and violoncello two years later. This unique concert will feature newly composed music for a wide variety of media, including winds, brass, strings, percussion, piano, recorded audio and more. She received her bachelor's degree in music education from the University of Illinois and is a candidate for both the Master of Fine Arts in Voice Pedagogy for Musical Theatre degree and the Master of Music degree in Pedagogy and Performance at Penn State. More than 200 graduate students participated in the 2016 Graduate Exhibition, which included 202 research poster presentations, 8 participants in the visual arts option, 12 in the performance option, and 8 in the video option. The Graduate Exhibition celebrates research and creative scholarship, in all its aspects, as an essential and exciting part of graduate education at Penn State. PianoMarylene Dosse taught studio piano through Spring 2008 and was pianist with the Castalia Trio.
A graduate of the Paris Conservatory with first prizes in piano and chamber music, she was the prize winner of two international competitions in Naples, Italy, and Salzburg, Austria.

Music Building I, constructed in 1963, houses classrooms and seminar rooms, Esber Recital Hall, the choral rehearsal room, a graduate resource center, the choral music library, faculty and graduate student offices, all music administrative offices, and organ practice rooms. Connecting to Music Building I by a second-floor breezeway and student lounge, Music Building II was constructed in 1993.

He continually performs with members of the world’s finest orchestras, including the Berliner Philharmoniker, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the San Francisco Symphony, the New York Philharmonic, and the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra.
In March 2006, the orchestra participated by invitation in the Sixth International Orchestra Festival in Zaragoza, Spain.

It also offers an opportunity for graduate students to see themselves as part of the larger University community, to share their scholarship, and to appreciate the breadth of quality research being done at Penn State. He is a member of Second Instrumental Unit, a provocative new music ensemble based in the Northeast and has participated in world premieres by such composers as Donald Martino, Bernd Franke and Paul Schoenfield.
The concert showcases undergraduate student musicians, chosen to appear based on the high quality of their juried performances at the conclusion of the spring 2014 semester. His CD of German and Austrian music from the past one hundred years, Vienne et apres, was released in March 2014 on the Tessitures label. Enrollment, open to all University Park students, is by audition at the beginning of each semester.
Professor Dosse has performed extensively throughout Europe, South America, and North Africa, Japan, and China, as well as the United States.
Guzman has appeared in recitals in such varied venues as Carnegie’s Weill Hall, Boston’s Jordan Hall and Spoleto’s Teatro Caio Melisso.
She has published more than twenty recordings under the Vox and Pantheon labels, now being reissued on compact disc. Her recording of the complete works of Granados piano music won the Critic's Choice of High Fidelity magazine.
