A missing adaptor is a gotcha but easily remedied buy purchasing any 9VDC 1Amp adaptor from the market. For some reason, the portamento effect seems to have fallen out of favor and the Casio keyboards no longer feature it. The preset-bank feature is useful to store keyboard setup combination but is marred by the fact that the keyboard does not feature non-volatile memory. The keyboard features touch-sensitivity (2 levels) but lacks after-touch (not expected at this price point too).
The 2-second press for presets functions makes it very easy to quickly setup the keyboard for optimal playback. Very plasticky and featuring a passe silver finish, I was tempted to buy the CTK300 or the CTK5000 (black). The keyboard is surprisingly light though and will definitely save my back as I go carting around town to friend's or trainer's place.
Compared to Yamaha (the other manufacturer of home keyboards), this keyboard is definitely a better deal because of the higher number of tones, polyphony, and customization features. The keyboard came with 3 years warranty, so be sure to get it stamped by the dealer and preserve the bills of purchase. I used to own a Casio PT-20, a SA-20, a MA-120 and never had to revert to the manufacturer.
While this is a keeper, I may want to acquire a small MIDI controller purely for functions such as pitch-bend or a few control knobs.
I have a WK 3000 at home and the 3000 is better but once you learn the functions, no problems. All you do is keep on repeating this group of 12 notes until there are no more keys to label.
The blacks keys in order are C sharp (or D flat) E flat (or D sharp) F sharp (or G flat), A flat (or G sharp) and B flat (or A sharp. The order of notes for a keyboard diagram starting with F is F, F sharp (or G flat), G, G sharp (or A flat), A, A sharp (or B flat), B, C, C sharp (or D flat), D, D sharp (or E flat) and E. The 5 black keys from lowest to highest are C sharp (or D flat), E flat (or D sharp), F sharp (or G flat), A flat (or G sharp) and B flat (or A sharp). This little keyboard comes loaded with big Yamaha stereo piano sound, and built-in lessons to get you up to speed. Featuring unique Ultra Wide Stereo technology for a wide stereo image and great sound, this keyboard also offers onboard lessons that make learning music easy, and more importantly, fun! Now, the playback of the selected song is continuously adjusted to the tempo of the player's performance. Walk through 110 songs with Casio's Step-up Lessons, or jam out on your own with 150 rhythms. The lighted keys and Casio's Step up Lesson System provide instruction and assistance allowing you to gain experience and eventually play on your own.
In addition, the LK-175 USB MIDI port is ready for computers and even iOS devices without the need for drivers.
On an acoustic piano, striking a key harder will produce a louder sound, striking it softer will produce a softer sound.
Only Yamaha's best keyboards have the capacity to support and reproduce Yamaha's XGlite voices. In addition, you have the ability to connect to a computer, download more songs from the Internet into the internal Flash ROM, and use all of the Yamaha Education Suite V5 features to help you learn to play them.
In fact, Yamaha professional audio products are found in most professional recording studios around the world.
Split Mode allows you to select a different voice for each hand - for example piano for your right and bass for your left. Obviously, more is always better, because too little polyphony can cause dropouts in dense passages of music. One press of the Portable Grand button resets the entire keyboard to a stereo-sampled piano - perfect for when it's time to practice. Includes a two-year extended warranty, power adaptor, footswitch on models that require it, stereo headphones, bonus coupons and a DVD-ROM. The XG lite is a less suped up of Yamaha's XG software and the lite alone has a ton of voices. With an audio input for an MP3 player, the Casio CTK-4000 is perfect for practicing and rehearsals, while offering the high-quality tone and feel Casio is known for. Whether a bar of your favourite musical piece, loops or drum sounds, human voices or noises of any kind -- the recorded samples (up to 10 seconds) can be played via the keyboard and effects added as desired. Your favourite tunes are played via the loudspeakers of the keyboard in "half playback" -- you can play along for the keyboard part. Since the keyboard is GM compatible, the base tones are 127 and the rest of the tones are variations of the 128 tones. If you sample a tone or style, there is no way for you to customize the start-stop of the sample or any other manipulation. Due to lack of the hammer-action, don't expect to play a sequence of 32nd notes on this keyboard, even 16th notes will be tough.

Since this keyboard is squarely targeted for the family home rather than the stage, this feature is much appreciated.
But what made me buy the CTK4000 was the fact that feature-wise, this is a superior product when compared to the CTK3000 and the CTK5000 was priced beyond the budget restriction I had set for myself.
So here's keeping my fingers crossed that Casio quality control is still the same as it used to be. However, I wasn't aware that in order to keep the registrations, one needs to keep the keyboard plugged in or you need to have 6 D cell batteries stored in the keyboard. What you need to do is to recognize that there are two black keys then a gap with no black key, then 3 black keys, a gap with no black key, then 2 black  keys, and the pattern keeps repeating over and over.
The black key to the immediate left of a white key is flat (?) while the one to the right is sharp ( ?). The result is amazing sound quality and almost 500 voices for you to choose from, offering even greater compatibility with both 3rd party and Yamaha XG software. The PSR-E303 takes full advantage of this know-how, giving you an extensive range of nine, top-quality reverb effects that simulate playing in everything from a small room to a large spacious concert hall and four chorus effects that add richness to electric pianos and guitars in particular. Call up your favorite style of music like Rock, Big Band or Country, press a chord or play Single Finger mode, and the PSR-E303 will follow you through a piece of music, providing all of the drums, bass, piano, guitar, horn and string parts for you. With the 482 voices found in the PSR-E303, the combinations are limited only by your imagination. Yamaha is known around the world for the quality of our acoustic pianos and this attention to detail is evident as you enjoy the warmth and clarity of the PSR-E203 Portable Grand piano. You can forget about shopping from offline retailers that stock a very limited number of keyboards. Plus, the Casio CTK-4000's new sampling function makes it more fun than play with than ever. Second, the built-in Step-Up lessons, facilitated by the CTK-4000's graphic screen, make learning both easy and fun. Pick a sound - up to 10 seconds - on your portable audio device, then play the sound as you press piano keys to spice up your playing. Pressing the keys faster distincly produces a clangy piano sound, not just a louder piano sound. The CTK4000 features 48 note polyphony, even more sounds, an arpeggiator, but no pitch-bend.
For instance the black key to the left of D is D flat, while that same key, since it’s to the right of C can be called C sharp as well.
It offers 61 piano-style lighted keys with touch response, a Sound EFX Sampler with a built-in Microphone, 400 Tones, 150 Rhythms, 110 Songs, 48-Note Polyphony, USB MIDI, Step up Lesson System. Now, instead of wading through function menus and fighting through a maze of selections, one button is your expressway to music on the web and your computer. And to make it easy and fun, when you select one of the styles, the One Touch Setting function will automatically configure keyboard parameters, such as voice selection and digital effects, to match that selected music style. The PSR-E303 has 32 notes of polyphony and will play back 16 different parts or sounds at once (16-part multi timbrel); enough for the most demanding needs. And of course, the keyboard includes a Sustain Pedal jack on the back for practicing and playing piano pieces. Pick a sound - up to 10 seconds - on your portable audio device, then play the sound on your Casio CTK-4000 as you press piano keys to spice up your playing.
Built-in lessons, facilitated by the graphic screen, are great for beginners, and a USB port makes it easy to connect the Casio CTK4000 to your computer. The other thing I find odd is that the Accompaniment is set at around 120 at default, louder than the melody.
The black key to the left of B is B flat, while that same black key, since it’s to the right of A, is A sharp as well.
You can connect to the MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) port on the back with an optional USB-MIDI Interface like the Yamaha UX16. Users can sample their own tones and styles and store on the keyboard (memory requires batteries). Keep the style button pressed for 2 seconds - the recommended instrument and style tempo are set automatically. When you go higher, the tone becomes sharp, while when you go lower, the tone becomes flat.
Once connected, you can play your songs into the computer, edit them if necessary, and e-mail them to your friends and family. And with General MIDI (GM) and XGlite compatibility, song data always plays back with the correct sounds. Choose #61 (careless whispers) and the rhythm and tone are set automatically to 16-beat1 and Sax.
