Hello Matthew!  I really do enjoy them as they supplement the actual video course I purchased. Mine is the usual story: traditional piano lessons as a child, a general interest in all sorts of music throughout my life. I just thought I'd let you know that I'm enjoying the DVDs, and the lessons via the newsletter, as well. My piano practice time is extremely limited because I'm still quite active with obligations to my business, my church ministry, and my family. Well, today I finally popped it into my computer to see what it was like and I can honestly say I can't quit watching it. You'll receive easy to understand piano lesson containing step-by-step instruction in the comfort of your own home. Additional material printed material is provided and contains all of the songs and exercises demonstrated in the video lessons so you can continue practicing at your own pace for as long as you need before moving on to the next lesson.
With Piano By Ear, you've been given an extraordinary opportunity to study with someone who understands how to play by ear and has been teaching students to play piano by ear for over 20 years. Most people are shocked when they call me to order my products or ask questions and I actually answer the phone or return their call personally. Kids get so excited at Christmas time, and learning to play Christmas songs on the piano is a special treat.
This first sheet features larger notation and fun graphics to make the piece even more appealing to kids.
Note that at the very end of the piece, kids will have to cross over the right hand to play the final note. This second piece of Silent Night sheet music is for young piano students who haven’t yet learned to read music notation. Again, the kids will need to cross over the right hand to play the final note, so practice this with them several times during the lesson when you introduce this piece. And don’t forget that even young kids can have fun creating a beautiful accompaniment for the melody of Silent Night. The first video shows you how to help kids learn to play Silent Night by ear using the help sheet.
After you’ve watched the videos to learn how to use this free printable Silent Night sheet music, click on an image below to print. With young kids, it’s a good idea to first introduce the accompaniment by playing a duet. Keep in mind that students will be most successful with this activity if they know their scales and chords well. If you like this video tutorial and the free sheet music, please take just a second to like it, share it and leave a comment. Even young kids can learn how to improvise the left hand, and they’ll be thrilled at how impressive they sound.
I created a fun system for teaching scales and chords that I start with my most of my students on day 1–even the very young ones. After you give this to your students, I hope you’ll come back and leave a comment to let me know your favorite student responses. You can create a beautiful arrangement of Away in a Manger when you know how to use piano chords. This website has lots of other resources for learning how to create your own stunning music at the piano. This first sheet is for kids who haven’t yet learned how to read music, but want to know the notes for Silent Night. Once kids know how to play the melody of Silent Night, you can teach them how to embellish the song by creating an easy left hand accompaniment. In this lesson, we will show you how to form the basic major and minor chords using the numeral formula. The augmented chord has a distinctive 'hanging in the air' sound, while the diminished chord has that horror flick sound. As the chord name suspended suggests, the suspended chord gives a suspense feel that needs to be resolved immediately.
If you have come so far in this lesson, and you understand the difference between the seventh, the minor seventh, and major seventh, the rest of the chords from now will be quite self explanatory!
1) Try yourself to form the other combinations of chords, like #5(b9), maj11, maj13(#11), and so on. 3) If you have to start somewhere, it will be very ideal to memorise the chord formula before you start memorising every chord 1 by 1. 6) The best way to learn chords is to apply them in a song, rather than to play all of them in series of practise (1by1).

Let yourself be carried away with the wide range of 400 AHL tones and become acquainted with the improved sampling function. I just want to confirm I have registered for your Piano by Ear course and have loaded down and am working through the lessons. I had a good ear and after a while I could play a little and have fun but finally got to a place where I was just repeating myself and had no idea how to go farther.
I was able to progress to the lesson on adding a chord to the melody in the right hand fairly quickly, but can see that I'm going to be here a while.
I've looked for a long time, for online lessons from someone who actually plays the kind of music that I want to learn to play. So I turned to the internet and was amazed at all the information and resources that were available.
I am stopping at the moment at lesson 5, to allow my brain and finger tips to absorb it all in. I purchased it during the promotional period because of the introductory price, but I knew I wouldn't watch it right away.
Since it is a DVD it can sometimes bring up a lot of questions and it's really helpful knowing you respond to my emails so fast and answer my questions.
You make the approach to the keyboard so easy to understand and your inventive methods are clear, concise, and easy to follow. If you've ever wanted to play the piano by ear without reading sheet music, then you've come to the right place! Each lesson is clearly taught and demonstrated with an over the should approach to learning. If you are not, simple return the course within ninety days for a full refund of the purchase price. There’s also a picture of a keyboard so that kids can easily figure out where to position their hands.
It’s not hard for beginners to do, just make sure you show them how before sending the piece home. The video below shows you how to do this, and you can read the full post with more detailed instructions by visiting Silent Night Piano Sheet Music. Once your student can play the melody, whether by ear or by reading the notes, show them the neat little trick in the second video.
Silent Night is an excellent piece for anyone who’s new to playing by ear because the melody is simple, includes plenty of repetition, and is well-known.
Hopefully, you’ve been teaching scales and chords all along, but if not older students can probably still do this if you give them a quick crash course on how to play just the chords needed for this piece. I’d love for others to be able to find and use these resources, and I really do read your comments and appreciate your feedback. Here’s one that will thrill your younger students and probably make you laugh until it hurts. I hope you teach pentascales to your young beginners and use activities like this to show them that they can create music in any key.
This is an easy arrangement of Silent Night in which both hands are used to play the melody.
Watch this video for a demonstration, or visit Silent Night Piano Sheet Music to see more detailed instructions. I created a video tutorial to show you a simple technique you can use in your left hand to create a simple yet stunning performance.
As you know, this is an express lesson, and we suggest you should not be bothered too much about the theory behind everything for now, therea€™s too much to absorb. It is important to know the rest of the other more complex chords actually derive from either a major or minor chord.
In summary, there are four basic types of 7th chords a€“ Dominant seventh, major seventh, minor seventh, diminished seventh.
The seventh flat fifth and minor seventh flat fifth are altered chords, with a flat seven and a flat fifth on a major and a minor triad respectively. Leta€™s put it in an easier way to understand, the 9th, 11th and 13th is mathematically the same as the 2nd, 4th and 6th.
If you follow the formulas accordingly, you should be able to form any combination of chords!
Because there are more than a few hundred different chords, you won't be able to remember all of them until you are very experienced. Using the built-in microphone, it is easy to record samples, and they can also be integrated into the rhythm. I am pretty excited about this because I feel like I am starting to learn the WHOLE keyboard like never before, and I think learning my inversions will really propel my playing. I live in the south of Ireland and there is a university level music academy here and I found a nice teacher. The more I get into the lessons, though, the more I can see that what I'm doing right now, will help me learn all that, down the road. This second video teaches a beautiful left hand accompaniment that even young kids can learn.

It makes the piece sound beautiful and the students will be floored that they can create such impressive sounds. Click the play button above to learn an easy pattern that creates a beautiful accompaniment to Away in a Manger. The activity helps kids in many different ways, so watch this video to learn how to get the most benefits from the exercise. In this case, select whichever scale you’re currently working on and ask the child to position her hand as if she were going to play that pentascale. Take advantage of their excitement and you’ll see their piano playing abilities really improve!
Each note has a finger number above it, so all kids need to do is press the correct finger number. Ita€™s more important that you are able to form the chords quickly and be able to play them first. If you like to practise on these chords, you should start with the 6 basic chords - C major, F major, G major, D minor, E minor and A minor. The suspended chord is also commonly known as sus4, and that 4th note is the note responsible for that suspense.
The minor seventh flat fifth is also commonly known as half diminished seventh, which is commonly used in many Jazz chord progressions.
So if you have a chord C add9, ita€™s a€?quitea€™ the same as adding a 2nd note to C chord.
Sometimes when chords get a little huge for example a Cmaj13, you should break it up into 2 separate chords, and learn it that way.
My only regret is that I didn't find that sort of course as a child, because I really enjoy playing and might have saved myself many years of stumbling around. When I first ordered your CDs, I was more interested in learning how to  "accompany" people who wanted to sing, rather than learning how to actually incorporate a melody line into the chord. Athough she has played beautifully for many years, she says that she has learned so much and isn't even finished with the lessons, yet!
I also have a discussion board available for students who would rather use distant correspondence. I was blown away, and you should have seen those huge grins–they were so proud of themselves! The only trick with really little students is to make sure they’ve got plenty of practice with scales and chords before you try this. You’ll all set to sit down at the piano and create your own stunning version of Away in a Manger! In most popular styles, the suspend chord usually resolves back to the original major chord.
And for chords with more than 4 notes, there are several different chord voicings to play with. Another example, although there are 12 dim7th chords, every four dim7th chords are completely identical to each other. Additional features, such as the 150 rhythms or the step-up learning system, ensure a lively introduction to the world of music and make each performance an exciting acoustic experience.
There are many fine players on YouTube and it took me a while to find the approach I felt would be for me. I look forward to practicing everyday.  I also think you are very kindhearted and too generous to give me that extra DVD!!!
Note that at the very end of the piece, the child will need to cross over the right hand to play the final note. And when you play a song in a key of C, these are the 6 basic chords you will use more often than any other chords. In the next few page of this lesson, the rest of the other chords that you will be learning are either alterations or additions to the 4 basic triads.
That makes life so much easier, because you only need to memorize one dim7th chord to know all four dim7th chords.
This Deluxe Package includes BONUS Neo Eclipse Ear Buds, Casio AC Adapter, and Disney's Best Easy Play Along Book. I play at singing conventions and attend gospel music schools, but this helps break it down where I can slow it down and learn. And I am hoping to buy your next DVD soon, because it has been a dream of mine to play by ear. It will also help kids begin to understand just how useful it will be to know their scales. Your instruction videos are very easy to follow, and I like that I can go back over them as many times as necessary, something I couldn't afford the luxury of, if I had a piano teacher sitting beside me. Well, if ever I know someone who wants to learn, I will highly recommend to them your courses.
