The black widow spider’s venom is 15 times more poisonous than that of a rattlesnake!
Spiders at Spiderzrule - the best site in the world about spiders, redbacks, huntsmen, garden orb weaver, funnel web, black widow, recluse, hobo spider, daddy long legs. Like other funnel spiders, hobo spiders have two spinnerets extending from the bottom of the abdomen. Hobo spiders do not have two distinct longitudinal dark stripes on the top side of the cephalothorax, instead showing indistinct or diffused patterns. I am also trying to 'clear the air' about the implications that these spiders may cause significant injury. I have found a few of these throughout my house, we live in a bottom floor apartment near a wooded area in Clackamas OR. I’m an entry level photographer with a passion for arthropods, Since I frequent your website for identification of spiders, I thought I would give back and send you some of my photos. I have a photo of a spider and I'm curious to know what type of spider it is and was wondering if you can id it. I live in Portland, OR and have TONS of these spiders (pic attached) in my finished basement.
I live in Stockholm, in Sweden, and Ihave many spiders like this, both insede the house and outside (in the summer). The people living in United States often see the black widow living in the outdoor furniture, rock piles, and fences. The black widow has the scientific name of Latrodectus mactans.  The animal is included in cobweb spiders.
Just like any other spider, male counterparts have the smaller size compared to the female ones.

The male black widow has a light color.  The back of its body features pink or red marking. I was wondering if you could help me with this, I found this spider on some moorland in manchester uk when walking my dog back in the summer. I came across your website and was hoping you could help me identify this spider and weather or not it is dangerous. I found this web site as I was about to give up trying to identify the spider in this picture. Below you’ll find pictures of bites from Spiders, Dust Mites, Bed Bugs and images of people with scabies and more.
Thank you for your time if you are reading this and I have to say, Spiders are creepy, gross, and this is making me nervous to sleep in my bed as it feels like something always crawling on me, I am paranoid about all this and wonder where I was when it got me.
I am thinking that maybe I know where they came from, maybe I put on a hoodie that had a nest and mama.
My Boyfriend , Some Friends , And I Went Camping ( In A Tent ) And He Came Home With A Non – Itchy Red Bump With Pus In The Middle And When He Pops It It Pops Out Like Popped Pimple Pus . I have a bite that is big and red hard and itches very bad and also is hot when u touch it . Spiders, including the hobo spider, vary considerably in appearance, and identification can be difficult.
If the spider instead has three or four pairs of light spots on the lateral portions of the sternum, then it is one of the other related Tegenaria species.
I have two little girls and I am worried about these spiders being aggressive and poisonous. I have attached two photos of decent resolution in hope that you can help me id the spider I found in my basement.

I know the Brown Recluse has been known to hang around these parts but also we have our fair share of Hobo spiders also that are similar.
My friend found it outside her house when she went out for a smoke one night around the end of October. If you want to see and read about a type of bite, such as the brown recluse spider, then simply visit the corresponding page and you’ll see the pictures and comments together. Oh and the day I was bit I kept having tiny baby spiders on me, in my hair and whatnot, like they were falling out of the sky and couldn’t figure out why and where they were comming from, probably 5-8 baby spiders crawled on me that day. However absence of spots is not conclusive proof that the spider is a hobo spider, since the spots on other Tegenaria species may be extremely faint and not readily visible.
I spent a lot of time on your site tonight and my spider looks closest to the hobo spider to the uneducated eye. It is a rural area and lots of farms and fields, I live right next to a Creek that runs through town, a 2-3 min walk away. Lately, it has been quite hot outside and now we are seeing what appear to be that same type of spider only now they are huge.
It hurts him to walk and it really hurts when you put and kind of pressure on the bite area.
