Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, more commonly known as ‘Mahatma’ (meaning ‘Great Soul’) was born in Porbandar, Gujarat, in North West India, on 2nd October 1869, into a Hindu Modh family. Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi born at Porbandar in Gujarat, Gandhi took his time to grow and develop his techniques to ensure that his actions made an impact in the freedom struggle.
One of the first series of non violent protests nationwide was the non cooperation movement started by Mahatma Gandhi. Gandhi again took off with another non violent movement known as the civil disobedience movement.
The Quit India Movement was launched under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi in August 1942. In May 1883, aged 13, Gandhi was married to Kasturba Makhanji, a girl also aged 13, through the arrangement of their respective parents, as is customary in India.
On 15 June 2007, The United Nations General Assembly announced that October 2nd will be celebrated as the International Day of Non-Violence.
The President and the Prime Minister, along with other political leaders, pay homage at Raj Ghat, the Samadhi of Mahatma Gandhi in New Delhi. Gandhi Jayanti is celebrated all over the country and in both government and non-government organizations.
2nd October becomes more important for everyone as it has a lot of historical significance.
Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri was born on October 2, 1901 at Mughalsarai, a small railway town seven miles from Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh. Lal Bahadur Shastri was sixteen when Gandhiji called upon his countrymen to join the Non-Cooperation Movement.
Lal Bahadur Shastri joined the Kashi Vidya Peeth in Varanasi, one of the many national institutions set up in defiance of the British rule.
This year’s Abergavenny Food Festival had a special focus on organic food for the first time in its history.
The festival, which took place 20-21 September, featured a range of activities organised by Organic Centre Wales. Events on the day included cookery sessions in the Castle Grounds, a live food debate and a range of organic stalls. Rachel’s Organic had a stand in the Organic Food For All area, where they showcased their range of award winning products.
Organic Centre Wales is funded by the Welsh Assembly Government to provide information on organic food and farming to producers, food businesses, consumers and others. With a print run of 12,000 and distributed to 9,000 Indian restaurants in the UK, along with 2,100 manufacturers, wholesalers, suppliers and distributors, the magazine boasts a total readership of 69,000 within the Indian food and catering sector. Come and join us on our Harvest Festival and annual Apple Day on Sunday 25th September from 11am -5pm.
Apple trees and plants for Autumn planting and Winter harvesting are on sale throughout the day. The Grass Roof Cafe is open all day with delicious autumn dishes and the Pizza Clay Oven is open for business.
After Natural Products Expo West, Natural Products Expo East, and Fancy Food Show, I always name my Top 5 Organic Food Products for each trade show.
The Seed Food & Wine Festival was not a trade show but was an event open to the general public. Before I get into my Top 10 Organic Food Products of the Seed Food & Wine Festival 2014, make sure you read the end of this post for my overall thoughts on the festival and why I believe this is going to become a massive event in the years ahead. I had been hearing about Tio Gazpacho for quite some time and first tasted the product at Expo East a few months ago. At Seed Food & Wine Festival, however, I tried it again and realized that I must have had a bad batch my first go-around. Tio Gazpacho is booming, and founder Austin Allan is working around the clock trying to keep up with demand.
This company has the potential to be the definitive brand in the category, similar to Harmless Harvest in the organic coconut water space, and I can’t wait until it hits the shelves in New York City.
The product is currently sold at retail locations in South Florida, but nationwide distribution is imminent. I had never heard of Sweet Earth Cakes before the festival, but I can assure you that this is a name that I will never forget. This was the first time that I had ever had plantain nut muffins, and they were out of this world.
While weekly organic produce boxes can be found in numerous cities around the country, what I love about Endlessly Organic is that not only does it offer heavily discounted prices (which gets it into the hands of people who otherwise may not be able to afford it) but the company targets companies as well.
Having a pick-up location for an organic produce box at the office makes it incredibly convenient for employees and is a great perk for companies to offer to their workers. In order for us to really improve the health of our nation, getting organic into the workplace will be essential, and Endlessly Organic is enabling this. Right now, the company operates in the Florida region but is eyeing expansion to other parts of the U.S.
I have been a big fan of 22 Days Nutrition now for well over a year, and its energy bars are some of my favorite on the market.
Marco Borges, founder of the company and personal trainer to Jay-Z and Beyonce, is a serious talent. I had been reading about Juicera for several months now, an upstart pressed organic juice company in South Florida, and I finally got to taste its products.
I was completely wowed by its Watermelon X-Press, a combination of watermelon, apple, and mint. Its cacao maca bar is filling, has great texture, and doesn’t overwhelm you with its sweetness.
U Rawk is raw, vegan, gluten-free, and soy-free, and can be purchased on the company’s website.
I am not going to make that claim right now, but the product was incredibly intriguing and something that I had never seen before. Gfruit, also known as guanabana, graviola, and soursop, could be described as a blend of pineapple and strawberry, followed by hint of coconut and banana flavors. Even though I have seen several versions of an organic, healthy Nutella over the years, Greentella certainly holds its own with any of them.
The company is going through a product reformulation, and its new website should be up shortly.
Even though shots of wheatgrass can be purchased at juice bars all over the country, the truth is that wheatgrass is still not widely consumed by the masses because of its harsh taste.
Yet, wheatgrass is arguably the healthiest food on the planet and is filled with 90 minerals, including potassium, calcium, magnesium and sodium as well as essential enzymes and amino acids. Due to the fact that most of the population may not be willing or able to drink wheatgrass shots on a daily basis, Velu has added lemon juice, apple juice, and water to make it more palatable for the general population.
This is a very smart product and will get wheatgrass out to the masses, something of great importance. I had a phenomenal time at all of them, and in hindsight, I wish that I had gone to more of the events. After all, who doesn’t want to spend a few days in Miami eating delicious, healthy food and meeting tons of like-minded people? I’m a regular person who decided to take his physical and mental health into his own hands. Amy’s is a Marin County, family owned and operated business in the forefront of the effort to bring delicious organic and non-GMO convenience foods to America.
To honor the achievement of this major partner of Real Food Company we will be offering the entire line at special pricing the entire month of November.

The second edition of the Traditional and Organic Food Festival will be held on September 27 and 28 at the National Botanic Gardens in Harare following the successful launch of the event at the same venue in December 2013, according to Melody Mundawarara. Mundawarara said last year’s inaugural festival drew an encouraging number of people.
She added that several groups have collaborated in setting up of both editions of the event.
She said the overall aim is to encourage producers and consumers, who some call co-producers because of their potential to influence how production happens, towards food systems that produce, process and market healthy and nutritious foods in a sustainable way. At least 40 stallholders are expected to display a variety of food and drink, both for buying and, in some cases, for tasting.
There will be also be stalls run by small-scale organic farmers and food businesses, government ministries, NGOs; among others. There’s a right way and a wrong way to pick apples, and I learned how to do it right last weekend at the Third Organic Apple Festival at the Rodale Institute’s organic farm in Pennsylvania.
These days, Rodale has 333 acres of organic land in Pennsylvania where farmers and scientists research organic farming methods. To pick apples without harming next years crop, grab the apple from the bottom and pull up. Fiana got to work picking a few pounds of apples, some of which we couldn’t help but eat on the spot.
Picking accomplished, we toured the farm with seasonal research technician Margaret Hodgkiss-Lilly, a recent grad in the field of environmental science.
The gardener Lee Reich, the well-known author of Landscaping with Fruit and The Pruning Book, gave a lecture on growing organic apples.
You can visit Rodale Farm Tuesday-Saturday 10am-4pm, at 611 Siegfriedale Road, Kutztown, PA, 19530. I cooked a big batch of apple sauce flavored with fresh concord grape juice that I made with grapes from the farmer's market.
My first cookbookLucid Food: Cooking for an Eco-Conscious Life is a collection of seasonal recipes. His father was the Chief Minister of Porbandar, and his mother’s religious devotion meant that his upbringing was infused with the Jain pacifist teachings of mutual tolerance, non-injury to living beings and vegetarianism. The way he gave shape and character to India’s freedom struggle is worthy of a standing ovation. This movement was more active than the non cooperation movement and brought about a revolution of sorts. The main aim for launching this movement was to bring the British to negotiate with the Indian leaders. Following his entry into Samaldas College, at the University of Bombay, she bore him the first of four sons, in 1888. With his complete dedication and confidence, Gandhi freed India from the British Rule and proved the world that freedom can be achieved with non-violence. With keeping that in mind and giving him full honour and respect the festivities on this day are very less. To honour Gandhi’s respect for all religions and communities, representatives from different religions take part in the prayer meeting held at Raj Ghat. Since it’s a national holiday all schools, colleges and offices all over the country remain closed. It is the day celebrated as International Non Violence Day and this day is the birthaday of two of the prominent personality of our Indian History. His father was a school teacher who died when Lal Bahadur Shastri was only a year and half old.
There, he came under the influence of the greatest intellectuals, and nationalists of the country. Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Arun Jaitley on 8 September 2015 launched the e-version of the 100 volumes of the Collected Works of Mahatma Gandhi (CWMG) in New Delhi. The works of Mahatma Gandhi compiled by a team of Scholars includes historic speeches of Gandhi. Authentic documentation of Mahatma Gandhi’s available writings was carried out under the CWMG project. In a first, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), will have a woman scientist heading an important cluster with the high rank of a Director General. A recognised expert in electronic warfare systems for Air Force, Manjula is an Outstanding Scientist and Director of Bengaluru-based DARE, Defence Avionics Research Establishment. She brings vast experience in EW systems, following a long stint with the Hyderabad-based, DLRL (Defence Electronics Research Laboratory), which is a pioneer in EW systems and cutting edge communications. The over 55-year old DRDO in heirarchy has a Director General, S Christopher (appointed a few months ago) and 7 DGs heading various clusters. The sixth Indo-Maldives joint Training Exercise has commenced at Pangode Military Station in Thiruvananthapuram district of Kerala.
Aim of the Joint Exercise is to acquaint forces of both countries with each other’s operating procedure and increase understanding and interoperability between Armies of both countries. In this edition of joint exercise, total of 45 soldiers each from Indian Army (BIHAR Regiment) and the Maldivian National Defence Force will take part. The exercise will cover varied military training activities in order to enhance interoperability between the two defence forces. August 2015 and it will conclude on 13 September 2015 with the closing ceremony involving cultural events by various military display teams along with aerial acrobatics display by Sarang Team of Indian Air force. To promote organic farming in the state, the Himachal Pradesh Government on 8 September 2015 organised a three-day organic fair and food festival in the state. The fair was organised by the Department of Agriculture in collaboration with the International Competence Centre for Organic Agriculture (ICCOA), Bengaluru. The fair was organised with an aim to popularise organic farming in the state where 90 percent of the population is residing in rural areas and 79 percent families are dependent on agriculture.
Farmers from all over the state have put their different products in the exhibition, a part of this fare in capital Shimla. In a fresh setback to the beleaguered Sahara India Pariwar, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has cancelled the license of its holding company Sahara India Financial Corporation Limited (SIFCL), officials said on Tuesday. The action has been taken by the department of non-banking supervision of the RBI, in Kanpur.
The notice cancelling its license to conduction financial business has been sent to the Kapurthala head quarter of the Sahara India. The RBI had in 2008 barred the company from taking any deposits from the people under its chit fund operations. A report of the investigations was sent to the RBI HQ in Mumbai last month after which the penal action of cancelling the license of SIFCL was taken. The Aayog, which is headed by eminent economist Arvind Panagariya, has two other members—economist Bibek Debroy and former DRDO chief V K Saraswat.
Chand’s appointment came at a time the Modi government is keen to revive the agriculture sector and reaffirm its commitment to farmers.
The BJP government has already formed a task force to suggest ways to boost agriculture sector in a follow up to first meeting of the Niti Aayog chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The task force, under the aegis of Aayog, is mandated to recommend ways to reinvigorate agriculture, strategies for reforms and identify successful experiments from which all states can learn.
Indian weightlifters continued to make their presence felt on Day 2 of the fifth Youth Commonwealth Games after Deepak Lather won a gold in the 62 kg category here today. This was India’s second gold in weightlifting after Jamjang Deru stood atop the podium in the 56 kg category on the opening day of the event.
India are being represented by 25 athletes in eight disciplines out of the nine being competed in the CYG. Young Indian shooter Apurvi Chandela impressed again as she clinched the silver medal in women’s 10m air rifle event of the ISSF Rifle and Pistol World Cup Finals on Saturday.

In the finals, Chandela started on a rousing note as she fired two shots of 10.8 to lead after Series 1 of first competition stage. London Olympic bronze medallist Gagan Narang and Gurpreet Singh had earlier reached the finals of their respective events in the tournament, but missed out on medals. Sponsorship for the festival, which is now in its tenth year, came from the Welsh Assembly Government and Rachel’s Organic. Gerard Baker, form Radio 4’s Food Program, was in the castle grounds all weekend producing delicious meals from local organic ingredients.
Furthermore, this festival felt more like a celebration rather than a critical showcase to impress buyers from retail chains across the country. Not only was I incredibly impressed by what I saw, but I wanted to give more exposure to emerging brands, many of whom are too young to afford or not ready to attend larger trade shows. For the trade show awards, having USDA organic certification is a must and will continue to be so. My go-to bar is the Daily Mocha Mantra, which always curbs my hunger with its great taste and healthy ingredients. Founders Michelle Gaber and Alison Burgos did an amazing job, especially considering that this was the festival’s first year. Visit Real Food Company Saturday, October 25th to enjoy samples from some of our favorite local, regional and national food producers and join us in recognition of Non-GMO month. A diversity of traditional, nutritious foods from Zimbabwe and other countries will be available,” she added. Carl Joshua Ncube, Zimbabwe’s renowned stand-up comedian is expected to be showcasing his culinary skills.
My friend Fiana and I took the opportunity of the festival to leave the city for a day of fresh air and apple picking. Hodgkiss-Lilly helps test the soil of nine farms that are transitioning to organic farming. We make aprons, tea towels, reusable fabric bowl covers, and other modern goods for your sustainable kitchen. In this freedom struggle, the non cooperation movement was basically aimed at making the Indians aware of the fact that the British govt can be opposed and if done actively, it will keep a check on them.
This movement aimed at bringing the British administration to a stop by withdrawing support from everything. Gandhi was unhappy at college, following his parent’s wishes to take the bar, and when he was offered the opportunity of furthering his studies overseas, at University College London, aged 18, he accepted with alacrity, starting there in September 1888. Even today his teachings are encouraged to stay away from violence and find peaceful solutions to conflicts. His mother, still in her twenties, took her three children to her father’s house and settled down there. The collection provides varied, numerous and logical profiles of Gandhi’s life and thought, action and engagements. Electronic Master Copy of CWMG (Volumes 1 to 100) is in the form of a searchable PDF beta version. The project commenced on September 1956 and concluded on 2 October 1994, with the publication of the 100th volume.
She will be one of the seven DG’s, who are heading different clusters within the DRDO, which has nearly 50 national laboratories and Institutes under its network.
The clusters are fallout of the implementation of the P Rama Rao Committee on restructuring the Organisation. The organic fair and food festival was organised in Shimla, the capital city of Himachal Pradesh.
At present the organic farming is being done on nearly 16 thousand hectare land in the state. The farmers are demanding proper marketing facilities for their organic produces in the state.
The move comes in wake of several irregularities and ignoring financial rules and regulations by Sahara, an official further informed. Many depositors had since then complained to the RBI that they were not being paid back their money by Sahara, following which a probe was ordered by the bank.
Chand is the third member to join the government’s think tank which has replaced the erstwhile planning commission. Once the soil is verified organic, they can label their farm products as such and charge a higher price. The respect that he earned for himself despite leading a simple lifestyle is much appreciable. There was agitation against land revenue, abolition of salt tax, cutting down military expenditure, levying duty on foreign cloth, etc. However the leaders were arrested soon after Gandhi’s speech and were put in jail by British officials. He proved to the world that freedom can be achieved through the path of total non-violence. Both of them played very crucial yet different roles in their lives and both of them have served the country with full of devotion and dedication.
Lal Bahadur’s small town schooling was not remarkable in any way but he had a happy enough childhood despite the poverty that dogged him.
The family could not dissuade him from what they thought was a disastrous course of action. A very important movement was that of Salt Satyagraha where Gandhi undertook the Dandi march as a protest against the Salt tax.
Gandhi went on a fast for 21 days demanding the release of the leaders despite his failing health. His non violent ways and peaceful methods were the foundation for gaining Independence from the British.
Nanhe, or ‘little one’ as he was called at home, walked many miles to school without shoes, even when the streets burned in the summer’s heat.
All those who were close to him knew that he would never change his mind once it was made up, for behind his soft exterior was the firmness of a rock. In between his Ministerial assignments, he continued to lavish his organising abilities on the affairs of the Congress Party.
As he grew up, Lal Bahadur Shastri became more and more interested in the country’s struggle for freedom from foreign yoke. The landslide successes of the Party in the General Elections of 1952, 1957 and 1962 were in a very large measure the result of his complete identification with the cause and his organisational genius. He was greatly impressed by Mahatma Gandhi’s denunciation of Indian Princes for their support of British rule in India. Lal Bahadur Sashtri was only eleven at the time, but the process that was end day to catapult him to the national stage had already begun in his mind. In the course of this period, he came to be known as a man of great integrity and competence. Humble, tolerant, with great inner strength and resoluteness, he was a man of the people who understood their language. In the direct tradition of Mahatma Gandhi, Lal Bahadur Shastri represented the best in Indian culture.
