He is the Andrology Representative for the British Fertility Society (BFS) and is involved nationally in male fertility training.
He is currently the Northern Ireland Council member for the British Association of Urological Surgeons. His training included a clinical fellowship at The John Hunter Hospital, New South Wales, Australia and he spent time at Duke University Department of Urology, North Carolina, USA. He was Lead Clinician at the Regional Fertility Centre, Belfast, one of the UK’s largest NHS fertility clinics and saw the introduction to the service of major advances such as embryo freezing and ICSI.
On completion of this work he joined Glasgow Royal Infirmary Assisted Conception unit in 2009 as a Consultant Embryologist.
She has advanced her own clinical skills by gaining qualification in Fertility Ultrasound Scanning, through the University of Derby.
Shauna brings significant experience and international knowledge of best practice to our nursing team here at GCRM-Belfast. Mr McEleny brings to GCRM Belfast a wealth of experience in the advanced management of male infertility, establishing the first Micro-TESE service in Northern Ireland.
Mr McKnight’s interest in Andrology includes investigation of male infertility and the surgical management of a range of penile and scrotal abnormalities. His other interest is Gynae Endocrinology, dealing with Ovulation disorders, PCOS and Hirsutism etc. The combination of his research background and clinical experience fulfills GCRM-BELFAST’s ethos of applying evidence based research with advances in clinical care. This technique, which is offered in only a few centres throughout the UK, offers the potential for biological paternity to men with severe male factor infertility. He has wide surgical experience in male infertility procedures such as reversal of vasectomy, varicocele ligation and testicular biopsies. He developed the RCOG Reproductive Medicine sub-speciality training programme in Belfast and continues to be involved in teaching this subject to postgraduates.
