It’s week 3 here on the Urban Homestead and life has started to take the wonderful hum of routine and our daily doings are getting a little easier. This week we will get a guest at the homestead in the form of our Nona (Grandmother) coming to stay with us for some rest-bit and quality time with our 13-month old baby. Not much was collected in the form of harvest but we did get our first taste of Magic Fruit.
We were so excited to try them, we didn’t get a photo but they looked something like this. We were also gifted some Sopote (naseberry) seeds from Cuba and some Guanabana (Sour Sop) from Nicaragua.
Our Moringa cuttings are moving right along and some are already showing signs of new growth. Our turmeric had babies which we separated from the mother plan and got 10 plants now in total. We are using Lasagna Style composting to kill of the Lawn grass and replacing it with edible trees, herbs and veggies. The Cardboard will kill off the grass by blocking out the sun, leaving it to decompose enriching the soil. This week we hope to get our Square Foot Garden planted and the rest of the seedlings relocated to the ground.
