You’re sick of reading them, we’re sick of writing them, but that doesn’t mean that recall notices aren’t important, particularly when they have to do with something as flammable as gasoline. That’s the concern surrounding Ford’s recall of nearly 205,000 crossovers, affecting the 2007 and 2008 Ford Edge and its Lincoln MKX twin of the same years.
Ford is aware of one vehicle fire that may or may not have to do with this recall; however, there are no reported injuries or deaths related to the fuel tank’s mounting brackets. Ford will be recalling vehicles that are currently registered or were originally sold in coastal states and provinces in the Eastern U.S. If you feel like you’re reading more recall notices this year, you’re not imagining things. Ford Motor Company is issuing a safety recall for certain units of the Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX crossovers over potential fuel tank issues caused by corrosion. The defect: in affected vehicles, the reinforcement brackets where the fuel tank is mounted to the vehicle could get corroded.
The hazards: this condition might result in a fuel odor, fuel leak or a check engine light. The fix: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the vehicles and either clean and treat the fuel tank with a corrosion preventative or replace the tank, free of charge.

Ford Motor Company is conducting a recall of more than 200,000 Edge and Lincoln MKX vehicles that were made between 2007 and 2008.
Ford Motor Company has announced that the models of Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX from 2007 and 2008 have possibly corroded fuel tank reinforcement brackets. The company decided to recall more than 200,000 of its older Edge and Lincoln MKX crossovers in North America to correct the issue.
In Canada, the provinces that are covered include Quebec, Prince Edward Island, Ontario, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador and New Brunswick.
The issue focuses on the possible corrosion under the reinforcement brackets that nestle the fuel tank to the chassis. Owners of affected vehicles are urged to go to the nearest Ford dealership office to have their cars checked. In vehicles sold or registered in the “Rust Belt,” corrosion may appear under the reinforcement brackets where the fuel tank is mounted. There, customers can enter their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to see any open safety, compliance or emissions recalls, as well as customer satisfaction programs. A pronounced corrosion can result in gas leaking out of the fuel tank, which poses a fire hazard. Automakers try to keep one step ahead of government regulators as they announce voluntary recalls when concerns on safety are in question.

That corrosion could result in a fuel leak, fuel odor, or illumination of the vehicle’s check engine light.
As with most recalls, Ford and Lincoln dealers will carry out the recall free of charge to vehicle owners. That’s annoying, but at the same time, we’re grateful that most automakers are owning up to their mistakes and trying to fix them. Commenters who violate these terms, including use of vulgar language or racial slurs, will be banned. These are Connecticut, Illinois, Iowa, Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New York, Pennsylvania, Vermont, Wisconsin, Delaware, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, New Jersey, Ohio, Rhode Island and West Virginia and also Washington D.C. Apart from smelling gasoline, owners may also see the "check engine" light flashing on the dash when a gas leak occurs. The fuel tank will either be replaced or repaired without any additional cost on the customer.
As with any fuel leak, there’s a risk of fire if the fuel comes into contact with an ignition source. We’re hoping that quality control will be a higher priority for automakers from here on out. In the case of the Lincoln MKX, Ford has sold 18,728 of the luxury crossovers this year all through September, which is an increase of up to 8 percent from last year.
Ford is giving the car a major redesign for the 2016 model year as the company tries to prepare the luxury brand's global launch.
