For 2014 the Fiesta receives a mid-cycle refresh that sees the corporate Ford nose grafted on and a few tweaks made to the rear of the car as well. The Nissan Versa Note is all-new this year and replaces the long-in-the-tooth Versa Hatchback. Unlike the Fiesta, the five-speed manual transmission is only available on the base Versa Note S.
All other trims of the little Nissan use an Xtronic continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT).
Even with the regular 1.6-liter engine, we would gladly take the minor mpg trade-off for the Fiesta’s powertrain. Despite having less power, we had a harder time in slippery conditions with the Versa Note. Bottom line I would never recommend this car to anyone and can’t believe people would actually let alone drive or buy one for their teenagers. Compared side by side, the two are quite similar on paper, but when driven, the two feel entirely different.
Surprisingly similar in some aspects, yet still completely different in others, these two hatches take different approaches to a common goal.
Despite how similar the Kia and Nissan may appear on paper, they are very different in execution. Watch our Short List video to learn about the top 10 most unreliable cars on sale right now, according to our friends at Consumer Reports. The performance based 'hot hatch' usually comes from a long line of donor cars that have been sacrificed at the hands of mad engineers with a limited budget and zero time before release. With this in mind, engineers scramble around the parts bin with the aim of finding bang for your buck parts that create fun with spunk and performance,The look and feel of a 'hot hatch' in 2014 won't appeal to everyone and being realistic, that's the idea. The Ford Fiesta ST will suit owners that are looking for a sporty, fun performance based car that makes all the right noises for not a lot of money. Can a subcompact be fun to drive, attractive, fuel efficient, geek-friendly and affordable? Hard to miss, the Fiesta is rarely seen in a pedestrian paint job, a good thing too, since the car is so attractive.
Sharing the interior style from the Focus, C-Max and Escape, the Fiesta looks and feels incredibly familiar, an advantage since the car’s controls are simple and fall to hand comfortably.
As cozy as the Fiesta is, don’t expect full utility out of it, especially compared to other subcompacts on the market.
Down at least two inches of legroom in the rear, the Fiesta also has a tiny trunk no matter what body style you choose. The MyFord Touch system is a powerful addition to the subcompact, but the spotlight really belongs on its dry-dual-clutch transmission.
It’s less prone to low-speed herky-jerk sensations but it’s not perfect and during our even limited time with the car we experienced some less-than-smooth operation. The automatic is the choice for fuel-misers, however, since it’s rated to net 39 MPG on the highway, 29 MPG in the city and 32 MPG combined. Those looking to go further should opt for the super-fuel efficiency (SFE) package, which adds more aerodynamic bodywork and is officially rated at 41 highway, 30 in the city and 34 MPG combined. This is an impressive feat considering the SFE equipped Fiesta gets fuel economy ratings that are nearly as good as the slow, Nissan Versa Note, which has to make do with a boring and whiney CVT transmission as opposed to Ford’s fast-shifting dual-clutch transmission. For those looking for more fun, a turbocharged three-cylinder EcoBoost engine will round out the Fiesta lineup. With its fun-to-drive dynamics, solid fuel economy returns, updated interior and remapped dual clutch transmission, the whole package comes together successfully. A more stylish alternative to the Hyundai Accent, the Rio hatchback offers more options, including a start-stop system to deliver even better fuel economy. Chevrolet aims to erase memories of the Aveo with the Sonic, the brand’s latest subcompact effort. Honda’s subcompact Fit doesn’t just have a futuristic look; it’s ahead of its time in many other ways too. I suppose that if one were used to a three-wheeled Reliant Robin, then this would indeed look good. This is my company car - My previous car was private and was a BMW 320d estate so this has a lot to live up to. Ford mondeo diesel estate, All i want from a car is reliability and FORD have too many poor design faults. Now diesel leaking from leak off pipes another poor design Ford rubbish plastic pipes and o rings that perish which is highly DANGEROUS potential fire risk and risk for motorcyclist. Last year sub-compact car sales increased by nearly four percent and city cars grew by a whopping 52 percent.
Having been on sale since 2010, the Fiesta plays in the more premium end of the market with an emphasis on driving dynamics while the 2014 Nissan Versa Note is all about space, comfort and value. Like the Versa sedan introduced in 2012, the Note hatchback is one of the larger offerings in the sub-compact segment, measuring four inches longer than the Fiesta hatchback. Having driven a manual Versa Note in the past, we can honestly say Nissan is doing us all a favor here.
This gearless transmission makes for one efficient runabout and our 2014 Versa Note SV with SL Package is officially rated at 31 mpg in the city and 40 mpg on the highway. Whereas the Note needed to be wrung out in certain situations to gain enough speed, the Fiesta always felt like it had more power on tap. The front wheels seemed more prone to break loose from a stop, forcing the intrusive and loud traction control system to engage. Thanks to a large-for-the-class 102.4 inch wheelbase, the Note absorbs bumps and road imperfections with ease. With soft touch materials throughout and a more modern design, the car feels far more upscale than the Note. At a starting price of $14,800 after destination charges, our Versa SV with SL Package came in at $18,500 as tested. Our Fiesta SE ballooned to $20,270 as tested thanks to the addition of options like the SE appearance package, Blue Candy paint, navigation and power moonroof. In NHTSA testing, the Versa Note and Fiesta received identical scores except in the frontal crash category where the Fiesta achieved four stars compared to the Note’s three star rating. The Versa Note is for those who need a jack-of-all-trades sub-compact capable of performing everyday tasks. Nissan may have given the Note an advantage in space, price and comfort, but the Fiesta is a better executed overall package and offers consumers more choice. I rented a 2015 versa at Denver airport for a week and I have to say it has to be one of the worst cars I have ever driven. Nissan Versa was rated 9th place in an article of the most dangerous vehicles ever produced. As with the Colorado, the majority of fatalities resulted from single-vehicle crashes (60 per million), which suggests the car is difficult to control when the driver encounters dangerous situations. One (1) winner will be chosen every month at random and contacted by VerticalScope Inc.’s staff.

Most manufacturers will only produce a handful of vehicle (depending on the market) that attract a certain age bracket and bank balance. One company that has 'hot hatch' desirability down to a fine art is the Ford Motor Company.
It seems like Ford is trying to combine all those traits into one tiny package, and while the Ford Fiesta was a fun to drive subcompact in the past, too many issues have kept it from being at the top of the class.
In addition to an updated look and improved interior, new for 2014 is an optional MyFord Touch infotainment system. The 2014 Fiesta’s 1.6L 4-cylinder makes 120 hp and 112 lb-ft of torque and is mated to a five-speed manual or six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Fuel economy ratings are 29 MPG city, 39 MPG highway and 31 MPG combined for the five-speed manual while powershift automatics get 1 more MPG combined. New models include a fuel-efficient EcoBoost 1.0L 3-cylinder and a hot Focus ST with 197 hp. A lot full of Fiestas looks like a bowl full of Skittles, and the Fiesta is just as smile inducing as the sweet candies.
Buyers can also opt for luxuries, which help make the Fiesta feel cozy, like heated seats or leather upholstery. For those not following the MyFord Touch story, all you need to know is that the system, while intuitive and clever, is vulnerable to freezes and breakdowns. The Fiesta offers less room for passengers than the Hyundai Accent and Honda Fit, and in some places it doesn’t even come close. Five-speed manual models have actually received a fuel economy downgrade for 2014 and combined now get 31 MPG. Making 120 hp, the Fiesta doesn’t feel as peppy or energetic as the Honda Fit, Kia Rio or Hyundai Accent, but it’s just enough to get the Fiesta up to freeway speeds without too much noise or drama.
The chassis is solid, the suspension is compliant and the steering feel is brilliantly direct.
Available later this year, the 1.0L engine makes slightly more power at 123 hp, though torque jumps significantly to 148 lb-ft, though in early testing we noted significant issues with the low level of engine refinement.
Even with its less-than-perfect transmission the Fiesta is improved enough to stay in the better half of the conversation when it comes to subcompacts. The Taurus, which seats up to five people, competes with the Chevrolet Impala, Hyundai Azera and Toyota Avalon.
Unfortunately, we have come massively down market from a top Granada, and after 25 years, we had to buy a new car. As I have a small family I upgraded the extras and got DVDs, touch screen nav and detachable tow bar. Every car has had the same problem, drumming road noise from the rear tyres when part worn.
Last two previous cars i kept for 10 yrs each Volvo & Land Rover this Ford would not last for 5 years. Automakers are keen to cash in on this burgeoning segment, but not all of them have the same idea as to what best fits the marketplace. However, the majority of cars will still come with the stalwart 1.6-liter four-cylinder making 123 hp and 112 lb-ft of torque. Only one engine is available for the Versa Note, a 1.6-liter four-cylinder producing 109 hp and 107 lb-ft of torque. Although the five-speed manual could not match the smoothness of the Versa’s CVT, it was surprisingly precise and featured a great clutch that was predictable in its engagement. Aside from this one nuance, the Versa Note is quieter inside with less road and engine noise making its way into the cabin. The Versa Note looks like a crossover compared to the Fiesta as the Nissan’s mirrors, roof, headlights and grille all sit a few inches higher than the Ford.
Adult passengers fit in the Versa’s rear seats easily and unlike the Ford, there is a fold-down arm rest. A nice touch as well is the soft padded arm rests on the front doors; a feature missing in the Versa.
For that price the Versa Note offers two options that our Fiesta did not, a back-up camera and push button start, but lacked the Fiesta’s automatic climate control, automatic headlights and sunroof.
Extending the pricing gap further, if the Fiesta had come equipped with the automatic transmission like the Versa Note, pricing would have come in at $21,365.
Built like a baby Ford Focus, the Fiesta feels better than the sum of its parts, which is good enough to squeak out a narrow victory.
There is a reason why it scored number 16 of 17 and the FIST scored number 2 on best subcompact cars list. If a semi or bgi truck is barreling down the road and you need to get out of the way, you stomped the gas and literally have to wait 2 seconds for the transmissions belts to catch after the engine spins up.
Entrant waives the right to assert as a cost of winning a prize any and all costs of verification and redemption or travel to redeem said prize and any liability which might arise from redeeming or seeking to redeem said prize. However, powertrain refinements and a few extra updates have come for the 2014 model year, and Ford now has the opportunity to take back some lost ground in the small car market. For 2014, the subcompact gets the Ford corporate grille which some say is borrowed from Aston Martin, while others see a cheese-grater stuck to the front end. Although not uncommon for subcompacts, with the Accent and Rio offering similar amenities, it’s nice to see Ford offer the same features as its competition.
Ford is committed to improving the system, and our quick time with MyFord Touch in the new Fiesta proved positive and uneventful. It can swallow up your heavier grocery runs, but having two adults in the back of the Fiesta will certainly mean there’s no room left over to pick up anything at Costco.
Throttle response in the PowerShift equipped models is a bit slow, but manual transmission equipped models feel sportier and are more eager to get going. Compared to the mile-wide dead zone in the Hyundai Accent, the Fiesta’s steering doesn’t feel as artificial as other electrically-assisted setups.

I would sell at a loss today for ?4500, Hate Ford unreliable rubbish cars with poor dangerous design faults. This engine can be paired to a five-speed manual or six-speed “PowerShift” dual-clutch automatic transmission.
That is a significant power deficit compared to the Fiesta, but at 2,498 lbs, the Note does have a slight weight advantage. There is lots of play in the shift lever when engaged in gear and the clutch uptake is vaguer than a fortune teller at a travelling carnival show. However, vehicles with the six-speed PowerShift transmission close the gap with ratings of 29 mpg city and 39 mpg highway while the optional SFE package boosts mpg on-par with the Versa Note at 30 mpg city and 41 mpg highway. The Fiesta on the other hand offers a choppy, bumpy ride that had more than one passenger expressing their displeasure with the vehicle during our test period. With a taller roof line, the Versa offers a higher seating position and taller windows, allowing for better sightlines.
Even if the SL Tech Package consisting of navigation and 360 degree camera had been added to the Versa Note, the Fiesta would still be over $2,000 more expensive.

Regardless of the origin or inspiration, the Fiesta is undeniably hot and receives a mild exterior tweak. In fact, a short handling course was all the proof we needed that the Fiesta is inherently fun to drive at its limits, thanks to its quick reaction times and small footprint.

Fuel economy, driving reasonably long journeys most of the time (12k miles in 4 months) disappointing at 44mpg consistently and miles off the 57mpg in the hand book. It looks like something one might find floating down a river, and it is the same colour as something one might find floating down a river.
Since the Fiesta is positioned as a bit of a driver’s car, we opted for the manual transmission in our Fiesta SE Hatchback for this comparison.
If that is still not enough, the previously mentioned 1.0-liter EcoBoost engine cranks things up another notch to diesel-like efficiency of 32 mpg city and 45 mpg highway.
If the Sweepstakes is not capable of running as planned by reason of damage by computer viruses, worms or bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical limitations or failures, any Force Majeure Event or any other cause which, in the sole opinion of Sponsor, could corrupt, compromise, undermine or otherwise affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity, viability or proper conduct of the Sweepstakes, Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole and absolute discretion, to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend all or any part of the Sweepstakes, and to select a winner from among all eligible entries received by Sponsor up until the time of such cancellation, termination, modification or suspension, as applicable. The aggressive, yet appealing, oversized black plastic mouth feeds air directly to the front mounted intercooler. There's also a new lane departure warning and prevention system for Limited and SHO models.
Layout of the interior is good but the quality of the fabric upholstery is appallingly bad. However the Juke has almost double the power the versa has which brings me to my second point. Sponsor reserves the right in its sole discretion to disqualify any individual that (i) tampers or attempts to tamper with the entry process or the operations of this Sweepstakes in any manner, (ii) violates the Official Rules, Terms and Conditions or (iii) acts in an unsportsmanlike or disruptive manner, or with intent to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass any other person.
The system gives audible and visual alerts if the car drifts over visible lane markings and can use the electrically assisted power steering to help the car stay in its lane. The keyless entry thing annoys me to death as the key is something you have to find a place for if I'm not carrying my bag. We prefer the proportions and look of the hatchback, not to mention the extra cargo room (23.8 cubic feet vs. CAUTION: ANY ATTEMPT BY AN ENTRANT OR ANY OTHER INDIVIDUAL TO DELIBERATELY DAMAGE OR UNDERMINE THE LEGITIMATE OPERATION OF THIS SWEEPSTAKES IS A VIOLATION OF CRIMINAL AND CIVIL LAWS.
It's very sporty and fresh although it has been shrunk slightly to fit inside the petite cabin of the Fiesta ST. The salesman must have gone mad with a felt tip pen dotting the windscreen to try and mask the fault that the sun visors are far too small. The driving position is spot on helped by the comfortable and hugging RECARO seats which you notice the moment you climb inside.
The quality of the hard door card plastics and trim areas in the boot is also very poor and objects rattle about in the door pockets. Just had Ford check the wheel alignment of all four wheels and yes it failed on the rear camber. Three large lower grille openings give the front end character, while creases along the side add directional flow without descending into exaggeration. The Sponsor shall have the right at any time to require proof of identity and failure to provide such proof may result in disqualification from the Sweepstakes.
Any expenses and receipt and use of the prize and federal, state and local taxes and fees applicable in connection with the prize awarded are the sole responsibility of the winner.
Sleek body-colored door handles, front and rear bumpers and aggressive chrome grille accents and chrome-tipped exhaust.
Ford, like most other (estate) car builders, insist on making the rear seats as a 2 + 1 instead of 3 meaning that for an average family using car seats and boosters fitting them with the seat belts is an absolute PITA. The difference is a larger battery that has higher capacity and can store enough power to give the C-Max Energi 19-miles of all-electric range on a full charge before any gas is needed. An IRS Form 1099 will be issued in the name of the winner for the actual value of the prize received.
The computer-controlled windows are a just joke, that one just has to put-up with, long gone are the chain drive reliable Granada ones. Side mirrors feature integrated turn signals and options include a rear spoiler and moonroof. When the power runs out, the gas engine clicks on and the Energi then runs the exact same way the Hybrid does, with regenerative braking and a host of other technologies working to recharge the battery for assistive use. We drove up Rocky Mountain National Park and we both weigh no more than 175lbs, two guys and I literally had the car redlined and it could hardly pull 35mph max speed. The six speed transmission feels direct when shifting and geared to ensure you won't be caught out by being in the wrong gear.If you're tackling city streets or traffic cones on a skid pan, third gear will ensure you're always in the sweet spot for economy and power. When will car makers realise that rear seats are predominantly the preserve of families with children and not 2 adults. The windscreen washer bottle has been done away with as unnecessary and replaced with a tiny visible quarter pint tube. However I am stuck with it for the next 3 years, but I'm not sure how much of it will be left after the kids and the dog!
Charging the battery from empty to full takes 2.5 hours on a 240V charger (installation separate), or seven hours on a standard 120V home power outlet. Sponsor, Prize Supplier, and their respective officers, directors, parent companies, affiliates, subsidiaries and advertising and promotion agencies, employees, representatives and agents are not responsible for and shall not be liable for (i) any injuries, losses or damages of any kind caused by a prize resulting from acceptance, possession or usage of the prize, or (ii) printing, distribution or production errors. Again boot carpet is too much like Velcro and with anything other than dust, dirt clings to the carpet and side lining and is really difficult to vacuum clean. Sponsor or its affiliates may rescind any promotion found to contain such errors without liability at its or their sole discretion. The revs of the engine sing as the overboost feature cuts in to give you the full 147kW, a 20 second punch of confidence to tackle the following curve and launch out of that next corner.Ford's torque steer trait has all but vanished, with only a hint of understeer when pushed. I saw a comment somewhere that the interior of the Mondeo is approaching 3 Series BMW standards, I have owned many BMWs and whilst the quality of them is nowhere like it used to be, the Mondeo is nowhere near that quality. The rear vision mirror has been slightly obscured by a sun glassed pod hanging down from the roof, which can not be removed. That being said, the V-6 is startlingly efficient for an engine with that much power and displacement, delivering the strongest fuel economy performance of the lot, with 19 mpg in the city and 29-31 mpg on the highway. The GT’s V-8 engine comes in at 15-18 mpg in the city and 25-26 mpg on the highway, while the Boss delivers a similar performance. The bonnet release has been hidden down in the passenger footwell, requiring some climbing over the gear stick to reach it, daily. The poor steering lock, is the same as most modern cars, so sharp corners require two attempts to get round. As previously stated, the 2014 Focus has plenty of available technology including MyFord Touch which replaces many of the physical controls with touch sensitive paneling in the center console as well as adding two LCD information screens to the instrument panel behind the wheel.
Antilock brakes, seven airbags, and electronic stability control come standard, as does Ford’s MyKey system. The Titanium model should have parking sensors as standard, a major omission for such a big car where rear visibility is not that good.
SYNC with voice commands is also optional, as is a Park Assist system which makes parallel parking a breeze. When looking over your right shoulder, prior to a lane change on a motorway, for example, the B pillar SERIOUSLY obstructs your view and the mirror does not compensate. Standard high-intensity discharge headlights and LED accents in the headlights and taillights add visibility, and fog lamps are an available option.
Until I got accustomed to this I nearly side swiped several drivers hidden within the the invisible B pillar area. A glass roof with SPF 50-equivalent sun protection is available for those who want the look and rigidity of a coupe but still want to let some rays in.
Drivers can customize the look of their Mustang with a number of available packages, including a V6 Pony Package or Mustang Club of America Package for more classic styling.
The first generations of muscle car required compromise, but this latest Mustang offers the total package, with comfort, performance, and fuel economy all present and accounted for.
