October 5, 2014 2 Comments Share this:TweetA while ago I wrote about 10 best personal finance books. This book assumes you have a decent understanding of how the Forex market works as a concept.  What makes it great for beginners is the way it walks a beginning investor through the whole process not only with instructions but with the trading journal included within the book.
The format of the book is a chapter per day of trading activities, so you can literally follow along for thirty days and track your own results!  Raghee is a frequent contributor to Forex articles and some of the leading sites in the industry, and her opinion is very well respected.
What is significant about this book is that Boardman trades as the vast majority of other people would trade in the Forex market – like a part time trader with self-taught knowledge. His methodology is well vetted and works, but it does assume that the investor will have some prior knowledge of how the market works as well as some familiarity with tracking your own progress.  For those who do not have this experience, the book offers tools and analysis techniques to develop this insight.
Of the three books listed, the absolute beginner should start with Coulling’s book and then work up through Horner and Boardman’s books.  This trio provides everything a beginner could hope to soak up about the ins and outs of Forex trading! From teaching creative writing and composition at the university level for a few years now, I think it is safe to say that the only two books that students are guaranteed (or at least really close) to have read by the time they have graduated high school are The Great Gatsby and To Kill a Mockingbird. They also  have The Killer Angels, Grendel, The Secret Life of Bees, The Fountainhead, and The Diary of Ana Frank.
How do I choose what to read? Lately, I’ve been reading one new book followed by one re-read, and then read another new book, then another re-read, and so on. I may never get through all of Dickens, or Nadine Gordimer, or Thomas Pynchon, or any other writer that you could name. That must be really awkward when those teacher who assign the Fountainhead get to that rape scene. This helps to explain my failing grade on A Passage To India (it was set in England, right?) and taught all high school kids (okay, me) that renting the movie is not the same as reading the book.
Before Harding and Ferris, I re-read The Phantom Tollbooth, which was the first book I read that felt like was written just for me. His writing has appeared in Boulevard, Epoch, Cincinnati Review, Crab Orchard Review, and Kenyon Review, among others. Other authors whose name popped up were Scott Westerfeld with the book called Uglies, Markus Zusak with The Book Thief, Jay Asher with Thirteen Reasons Why, Laurie Halse Anderson with Speak, Rick Riordan with Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief, James Dasher with Maze Runner, and many more great authors and selections.
There are many genres to choose from including Fiction, Non-fiction, Classic, Manga, Mystery, Thriller, Spirituality, Self-help, Suspense, and many other great options. In this BN that I’m writing a portion of this blog post from, the Summer Reading tables have titles such as The Bell Jar, The Sun Also Rises, Catcher in the Rye, and Night. And, if I can’t get into both of these camps, how am I doing my job, how am I following my passion (writing), if it all often feels far too exhausting to keep up? Most people I know have a TBR (to be read) stack, or several stacks, throughout their home. Someone close to me urged me to re-read it, thunderstruck by the fact that I had never even finished it, let alone liked it. With an open and curious mind, there will always be new books to read, old books to re-read. It was one of the It Books of Literary Fiction in 2011, and one of my friends had talked to me about how the novel was more of an argument than a narrative, and I wanted to know what he was talking about. The list was provided by Goodreads, so it is a little bit of a mystery why they only put a few of the books on the list.Reply Susan Z.
I completely loved the entire series and the fathomless reservoir of the author’s imagination.
It took a great deal of planning to carry the characters and all of the details involved through the entire series. That said, they certainly deserve to be on the list because they drastically altered how fantasy books are written and spawned a whole generation of writing. I’m not saying all of the new generation of writing is good writing, but the movement alone makes it a worthy series on any list.
Others in that genre would be Devil in the White City, Dead Wake, and In the Garden of the Beast and Dead Wake, all by Erik Larson.
