The tarp will take up the most room in your backpack but is the most important item to combat even the worst weather conditions. Funnel Rainwater – Place the tarp on a decline slope to help funnel rain into a container. Where do we start?  Duct tape has unlimited uses for repairing, building, setting traps and much more.
Blinding – The powerful LED lights can temporarily blind people andstun animals when hunting. You may want a large blade with a saw edge or a Swiss Army knife with multiple tools to use in different situations.  If you have the spare room in your backpack, bring both. Sharpening – Use your knife to sharpen the edge of a stick to create a wooden spear, dagger, or even arrows. Multiple Tools – A Swiss Army Knife covers a wide variety of useful tools for opening cans, removing splinters, and much more. Saw Edge – A knife with a saw edge on the other side of the blade is useful for sawing branches to make a variety of things.
Paracord is extremely durable and can hold up to 550 pounds.  Its length offers multiple uses.
Building – Use a cord as the backbone for your tent by tying the cord from tree to tree then throwing a tarp over it or use it as a clothesline to dry clothing. Unless you can successfully start a fire without using a match, I suggest bringing a lighter, flint stick, or water-proof matchbox.
Light – If you run out of batteries for your flashlight, you can make torches out of lighter fluid and a stick wrapped in cloth.
We can survive about three days without drinking water.  You may have heard you must drink 8 glasses of water per day, but the amount of water necessary to stay fully hydrated actually depends on gender, body size, health status, climate and the amount of energy used. Cleansing – Taking care of your personal hygiene is refreshing and helps you stay healthy.
Hydration – If you have a limited supply of fresh water, only use it for keeping yourself hydrated. We can survive about three weeks without eating food.  Not eating will cause fatigue, so make sure you use your energy wisely if you are low on supplies. Fishing – Use some food as bait for fishing, then use the fish for baiting a trap to catch something bigger. Vitamins – Try to eat a variety of foods to help boost your immune system and keep you healthy. A small first aid kit can save room while still providing necessary items like antiseptic wipes, antibiotics, aspirin, bandages and gauze. Antiseptic – Continue to practice good habits like cleaning your hands or silverware before eating. If you want to carry a heavy machine gun, go right ahead, but a pistol is light weight and easily concealed.
Offense – The pistol is a lightweight firearm that can kill any person or zombie that poses a threat. Do you know another interesting use for one of these items?  Should another item be on this list?  Leave your thoughts in the comments section below. These ideal survival foods will of course need to be stored the right way in order to retain their practically never-ending shelf life. You’ll need to be really careful about keeping these completely dry and free from moisture, but if you can manage to store these in air-tight containers, they will keep for an incredibly long period of time. Although some of these food items will change texture, thickening or hardening over time, they will only change in terms of taste.

Seasonings are also excellent survival foods, as they’re food that lasts forever, and only get weaker in strength of taste over long periods of time. While these foods will likely change in taste after some time, they remain safe to eat indefinitely. This is the first I’ve heard of Flour, Corn starch, and Baking soda being nonperishable. Definitely a controversial subject, but I thought I’d put the article out there anyway, at least as a gateway to a discussion. As much as we (myself included) love to talk about gear, self-defence, knives, ammo stockpiles, etc., basic sustenance is by far the most important factor in long-term survival (as is that water storage problem), and I think it should be discussed more, even though of course it is more controversial.
What about unopened flour, rice, beans and sugar in its original packaging and then vacuumed sealed by a food saver of sorts? The absolute best place to keep a food stockpile is in a dark, cool, and dry spot, free of humidity, moisture, direct sunlight, and extreme temperatures.

Rice and salt are up on that list because so long as you keep them in proper storage (no moisture, no air, so vacuum sealed counts!), they should last a very long time. But I’m not quite sure how long flour or beans would last at their very longest, personally!
