Beautiful music is the art of the prophets that can calm the agitations of the soul; it is one of the most magnificent and delightful presents God has given us.
Learning music as an absolute beginner can be frustrating if you do not know where to start. There are many more scales and chords to learn, but any beginner can start with C and create some nice results. The emphasis is on developing musical understanding of what the child hears and performs within the context of fun and engaging activities.
An important concept for parents is that children learn musical skills by imitating someone. The Music Intelligence Project™ (MIP) embraces all of the above principles as foundational concepts in promoting the best practices in early childhood music.
As an English teacher in a Dutch elementary school for students 4 to 12 years old and an American mother of two living abroad I feel so fortunate to have found Cathy Bollinger's music.
It was a pleasure seeing the smiles on the children's faces as they listened to your CD for English Language Learners. It makes sense to push music education and to allow young generations to gain these wonderful benefits – higher intelligence through increased creative thinking, problem solving and physically stronger brains, a higher perception of life including better attitudes, strong desires to achieve and fulfill and higher self esteem, better developed discipline, study skills, concentration, communication and team skills which transfer from education through to career and a better understanding of communities and society.
It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and charm and gaiety to life and to everything.
There is no right or wrong way for a beginner to learn, but there are simple steps that can help anyone make learning music fun. Just start at any C and move to the right, playing each white key in sequence until you have reached the next C on the keyboard.
Learning music needs to be fun, as theory and technical exercises can make it seem more like work.

Whether it’s singing, moving, or listening to music, the enjoyment these experiences bring to children is unmistakable.
Any human experience is more enjoyable when you know something about it, either as a participant or as an observer.
Researchers have shown that learning music provides unique developmental benefits to young children. Children need to learn music at an early age and the years between birth and age five are critical. For example, songs are chosen and sung in the child’s ideal singing range, and rhythmic movements are kept simple to assure success. Factor, powered by ASTRA, works closely with bloggers and media outlets to announce play and toy industry information. Lively children’s voices and varied instrumentation gives each song its own unique flavor.
Most of the children's music that I have come across, both professionally and personally, consists of the same 5 children singing every song to the same guitar and drum set.
It is a wonderful tool that engages young children while they have fun learning the English language. Starting on the note C and playing the next six white keys to the right will form the C major scale.
A basic C chord is played by placing the thumb on a C, the middle finger on an E, and the pinky on the G. The great thing about learning how to play chords and melodies in C is that pretty much any white key melody will work over any white key chord progression. Expanding the understanding of music through focused learning can open and enrich the child’s realm of exploration and play and, of course, fun. The learning emphasis is on the action or activity, or what the words of the song are about, and not on what can be learned in the music. Art, sports, technology, games, cooking, music (you name it)—all become more fun and interesting when you know their basic concepts and skills.

Active and substantive music learning can directly enhance the development of those parts of the brain that control verbal competence, mathematical reasoning, memory, spatial understanding, and muscular control. For example, if the child’s model for singing is out of tune, the child will learn to sing out of tune. All parents, regardless of musical skill, can play an important role in their child’s music learning experience.
Unfortunately, we can miss opportunities to capture the child’s natural interest in music learning. This enhancement occurs because significant music learning is widely distributed in the brain, overlapping those structures that control general intelligence. Focused, active, foundational music learning can impact the wiring of the brain, similar to the effect of language. A nurturing parent, whose smile, facial expressions, hugs, applause, and other signs of encouragement add to the excitement of learning music, can enhance any program of music learning. Because of this simple layout, the piano can be used to learn the basic principles of music which will then carry over into other instruments.
No other learning activity engages so many senses, interconnects so many parts of the brain, and provides so much enjoyment. If a child does not have substantive music learning experiences at this time, their ability to develop these skills will diminish. Participating in music activities with your child is encouraging and enjoyable, and it presents opportunities for feedback as your child negotiates the trial-and-error process of learning to imitate performance models. Parents often wonder what they should do to give their children the best advantages in learning music.
