I highly recommend this book for singers, especially those of us who don’t play an instrument like piano or guitar. It also comes with a pianist listening guide, tons of photos of jazz pianists, and lots more unexpected surprises. This blog is part of the Amazon Affiliates program which means that I receive a small commission when you buy a product I linked to on Amazon. More than a mere theory book, The Jazz Piano Book is a practical and unique approach, using some of the finest examples from actual Jazz recordings to examine the techniques, voicings and phrasings of Jazz piano. He is in a Jazz trio at school and his visiting Jazz teacher (who is mainly a professional Jazz performer who teaches on the side) strongly recommended this book. It’s written for jazz pianists (obviously) but every jazz musician I know has a copy.

I love both of Mark Levine’s books too, but I don’t own a copy of the Jazz Theory Book to photograph for the blog! However, I will only ever promote products which I personally use and love and will never take money to promote a product I don't love.
CONDIVIDI Facebook Twitter tweet Mark Levine, The Jazz Piano Book (Curci Editore), 5.0 out of 5 based on 213 ratings Mark Levine, The Jazz Piano Book, edizione italiana a cura di Fabio Jegher (Curci Editore)Dopo “The Jazz Theory Book”, Mark Levine ci offre un ulteriore strumento per l’approccio teorico alla musica jazz, questa volta illustrando le basi e i concetti piu avanzati del piano jazz grazie al suo “The Jazz Piano Book”.
It starts its instruction from the very beginning and progresses through advanced techniques whilst covering the most inspirational players and music from 1930 to 1990. I have Mark Levine's Jazz Theory book and inevitably there is some overlap in content in the early chapters, but Levine writes clearly on what can be a fairly heavy topic. Every chapter is filled with musical examples of theory set within the context of jazz standards. You can check out the last post in the series, The Right To Speak, or see all of my book recommendations on the Book Love index page. Anche questo volume, edito da Curci, e stato curato nell’edizione in italiano da Fabio Jegher. Comprehensive and readable, this volume includes techniques such ‘Comping, So What Chords and Block Chords, and much more!

When I have been learning about intervals and modes and other foundational stuff, I have used this book to get the sounds in my ear. This book is intended for intermediate players who have some knowledge of intervals, chords, key signatures and the most common scales.
