Whereas SCSU exists for the
primary purpose of furthering academic excellence;
Whereas the University is
currently in the process of developing the next Facilities Master Plan;
Whereas the Program for the
Master Plan of 1993 by Dober, Lidsky, Craig,and Associates, Inc. stated that
Southern Connecticut State University was "last of the eight
institutions" surveyed in non-residential net assignable square feet per
student;
Whereas all administrative
decisions should be driven first and foremost by the goal of academic
excellence;
The Faculty Senate resolves that the Facilities Master Plan currently under development will include a separate section for Academic Facilities which will address the following issues:
·
Improvement of all
academic space, including classrooms, laboratories, seminar rooms, research
facilities, fine arts facilities including performing arts, training
facilities, athletic teaching facilities, gymnasia, office space, and collaborative work areas for full and part time
faculty;
·
Necessary expansion and
growth of academic space;
·
Improvement and growth
of space to promote Library and Information Technology services needs;
·
Appropriate provision
for technology needs in all academic space.
And that this section of the
Facilities Master Plan will be made available to the Faculty Senate for review
and comment prior to its approval.
