I guess I find this important because you simply can’t look changing your eating habits as some form of punishment, and whether people are willing to admit it or not, giving up something you really like is a punishment. A cheat day that gets up into the 8,000 calorie range is a bit silly, and becomes too easy a target for those opposed to them. Again, just my opinion, and there may be plenty of research contradicting my claim (though I haven’t seen any yet), and would be interested in hearing your take.
