Paleo diet adherents are often thought of as heavy meat eater, but vegan fitness expert Ellen Jaffe says you can be a vegan on a 100% Paleo diet. In her bestselling cookbook, Paleo Vegan: Plant-Based Primal Recipes, Jaffee and co-author Alan Roettinger combined the principles of the Paleo and vegan diets by eliminating animal protein and replacing it with healthy plant-based proteins. The Paleo diet emphasizes high-quality animal proteins, healthy fats, vegetables, and excludes gluten, sugar, dairy, legumes, starches, alcohol and processed foods.
According to Jaffe, people who say a Paleo-vegan diet isn’t possible have a skewed understanding of how much animal meat caveman actually consumed.
The main sources of protein on a Paleo vegan diet are nuts, seeds, and protein-rich vegetables, said Alan. Roettinger said creating recipes that are both Paleo and vegan for Paleo Vegan was surprisingly easy. Experiencing easy weight loss and improved health on a vegan diet isn’t surprising to medical experts like Dr. Fitness expert Robb Wolf said the Paleo diet, which is largely plant-based, prevents disease in addition to promoting natural weight loss and boosting energy.

Alan said substituting hemp seeds, nuts, and protein-rich vegetables for animal protein makes a Paleo-vegan diet nutritious and delicious.
Most people think you can’t get enough protein on a vegan diet, but Roettinger said this is completely false.
Despite what people may think, the respected private chef said hemp seeds and chia seeds alone are a plentiful enough source to build and sustain tissues, even in athletes. Famous Paleos include Tim McGraw (who credits it for his jaw-dropping 40-pound weight loss), Adriana Lima and Megan Fox.

I felt so much better, I just kept researching what else could be causing my stomach and body issues.
I would joke that I had the sick gene, but the truth of the matter is I didn’t take care of myself, and once I went vegan and started focusing on nutrient dense foods I stopped getting sick.
When you eat vegetables and fruits that are grown locally, you’re able to get the most nutrients into your body. We used to work at the farmers markets, teaching people how to use their CSA boxes (boxes of produce you get weekly from local farms) and we knew that if more people started incorporating seasonal produce their health issues would disappear. I guess our long-term goal is to support even more people making healthy eating a priority.
My boyfriend (now husband) at the time, Peter, shared the documentary Food Matters with me, and that had a huge impact. Over time my friends and family came to understand, and will now make an effort to provide food I can eat, but at first it was a little bit of a shock. We get to help people who are just like we used to be – struggling with poor digestion, constipation, skin issues, addicted to sugar and carbs, and overcoming those things by fitting in more seasonal vegetables – and that’s a lot of fun for us. We started working in person, but soon found that we could have a bigger impact if we took our business online, so our online website was born.
