I’ve created 5 free “real food” meal plans to help make things a little easier for those busy families who would like to cut out processed food.
Complete meals listed each day for breakfast, lunch, snack and dinner with leftovers incorporated. Corresponding complete grocery list showing what to buy in order of the store and actual cost for each item (as opposed to the price per serving) with seasonal ingredients highlighted on Meal Plans 3 – 5 so purchases can be made from your local farmers’ market if desired.
Almost every item listed follows our strict 10-day pledge rules, with just a few minor exceptions to keep the plan realistic for those busy working parents. Become an email subscriber by entering your email address in the box below and following the instructions. Once you’ve confirmed your subscription, you’ll receive a welcome email with links to download the meal plans.
If you are an existing subscriber and have lost your email with links to the meal plans, first try searching on 100 Days of Real Food in your email client and looking for the first few emails from us (search under ALL MAIL if using Gmail). There comes a time in every NYU student’s residency when he or she realizes that for the last year or so she has been screwed by The Man in the form of a Downstein casserole.
Sure, one of the greatest things about having a meal plan is the convenience — you can easily swipe a soup-to-go in Kimmel and be on your merry way between classes.
If you’re living in Hayden with no kitchen and the smell of grilled cheese 3 floors down, I understand the need for an expensive meal plan. It’s the students in the small-kitchen-transition for which the system does not favor. Moore said that last semester they saw an increase from 82% usage of all meal plans to 88%, which, sure, is a big majority. When I asked a freshman with a situation similar to the one laid out above if it bothered her when she wasted a meal plan, she responded, “Not really. It seems that with the options provided, students lured by the convenience of meal plans are forced to choose between getting a better deal per meal and taking the chance that they may waste tons of money or spend the rip-off $11 bucks a meal, which you may not wind up using in its entirety either. This meal plan is meant to feed two adults and two children, 3 meals a day, 7 days a week for under $80.  See the bottom of the post for ways that you could shave down the cost of this plan even a little more. Eat half of the chicken, de-bone and divide the other half into two portions and reserve for later in the week.  Also save the carcass. Put the carcass back in the crockpot for perpetual broth for later in the week.  Yes the bones can be used multiple times. Avocados are about $1-2 in most grocery stores around here too, but Aldi carries them for dirt cheap.
I just have to tell you Tara how very much I’m enjoying the recipes you shared in this post. The only problem I’ve discovered is one I have been long aware of, but can’t deny with this plan – I eat more food than one person. Relish! New meal plans are added weekly and community members can tweak the plan to fit their family’s needs. Favorite feature: The whole plan is based on buying 20 fresh ingredients that you use throughout the week.

I have dabbled intermittently in the simple life and real food, despite living in a Perth, Western Australia , possibly one of the most expensive cities on the globe.
I’ve cut down processed food for our family of four and yet we spend easily $300 pm week, yes week, on groceries.
The good news is, I try, fail, win, and try again to keep costs down and have the family eat well. At our house, we’re recommitting to eating healthy, balanced, kid and mama-friendly meals.

Palladium Brunch and the chocolate fountain, Ricky the Grill Man or Personal Pan Pizzas in Kimmel. Cheers to you and the work you have done to help other parents trying to feed their families well on a tight budget. However, many of the ideas on your list are quite workable for helping me to save money where I can.
I ams ick of the corporate advertising machine feeding my family rubbish, damning our environment all whilst making us feel that more is not enough. The idea is you stock your pantry with basics and essentials and then every week you get a meal plan based around 20 fresh, whole food ingredients.

They literally plan, shop, measure and deliver everything you need to prepare healthy and delicious meals. Patrick has designed this revolutionary fat burning tips and transformation system to focus especially on nutrition and fitness.
The program comes to help you manage the calorie produced capacity and requirements to meet with your own consumption to release extra fat.
But underneath this seemingly joyous culinary experience lies a common theme of which we are all too familiar here: big-ass rip-offs.
For instance, have you ever taken the time to calculate the actual price per meal of each meal plan?
But regardless of your taste in made-up Mexican food, it’s clear that no one should spend this much money for one meal in a university cafeteria. For instance, how many students who use the plans with more meals actually use their entire meal plan? I did that and it’s wonderful stock, although I only got about 2 cups from a whole chicken carcass.
For even more options, the Premium Menu Mailer allows you to build your own meal plan from previous Menu Mailers and the database of recipes.
With an hour of prep work at the beginning of the week, cooking a healthy and balanced dinner throughout the week takes only about 20 – 30 minutes.

They deliver to a good portion of the country through a network of farms and family-owned purveyors.
I guess I am confused because you label them as January meal plan, February meal plan, etcetera..so is this meant for the whole month? We are on the tail end of the curve compared to your readers but I will persist in reducing consumption and waste, and still live well by being smarter and more kind to the voice of expectation. I notice that this week’s plan is quite heavy on the chicken and I am getting complaints from my husband about all of the chicken we have been eating lately.
Here’s a quick look at six great services to help you serve up healthier food in 2015.
I ran my pot on the lowest setting for 24 hours, but I noticed that it was bubbling and simmering a lot.
Thanks for visiting!shareHow much do you expect it would cost a family of four to eat for a month WITHOUT coupons? Just starting a lot of this, so I’m trying to get to the point where I can make a routine of sorts for certain foods.
And, quite honestly, I didn’t think I was being all that stingy with my grocery selections. Whole grain bread, fresh chicken, green beans: these are the types of foods that I would regularly pick up from the grocery store. From this discovery, I figured that I could get even more wise with my grocery selections and could potentially feed a family for under $100 a week, and maybe even less than $400 a month.
The figures have been done and yes it costs more but still doesn’t cover the vast variances we pay.
On top of that, I also found myself buying a whole bunch of stuff that I didn’t even want! My grocery bills were slightly lower, but my consumptive happiness was suffering, and I certainly was never able to buy an entire cart of groceries for less than $2.00! After a few failed attempts, I considered couponing to be a complete waste of time. With couponing in my mental trash can, what else could I do to keep my grocery expenses low? Instead of shopping at the regular grocery store, I decided to start checking out the discount grocery stores. From this exploration I was able to find a wonderful store called Aldi and I’ve never looked back since the discovery. Aldi’s prices are consistently cheaper than Walmart and any other store that you can think of. After having shopped there for years now, I can safely say that it’s my kind of place. Easy in, easy out, and for a cheap price. The Food, Prices, and ServingsIn order to prove my case with all of the proper specifics, I began by accumulating a comprehensive list of foods, prices, and serving sizes in which I would feed a family of four.
Also, after recording the number of servings that each food would provide, I decided that the serving size of many of these foods was completely unrealistic. If I was truly going to feed a family of four on a tight budget, I was going to provide a reasonable serving size.
In order to prove that I could feed a family of four for less than $400, I needed to put together meal plans. Also, for these meal plans it should be known that all four members of the family are treated as adults and will be provided with adult portions. For lunch, each member of the family is provided with a sandwich consisting of 2 slices of bread, 2 slices of lunch meat, 1 slice of cheese, a healthy portion of head lettuce, one banana, and 2 granola bars.
When I added up all of the food that was needed from Sunday through Saturday, the total servings and amounts came out as follows:So for one week, I could feed a family of four for just $86.07!
Taking this one step further, if a month had 31 days, then the monthly grocery bill would equate to $381.16, which is $18.84 less than the $400 I promised you!
At no extra food cost, and maybe slightly less (your portions will shrink when you go to more nutrient-dense foods).Another thing you can cut is the commercial mayo. All commercial mayo (and salad dressing) without exception is made by people who either think soybean oil is food, or think you are stupid enough to think soybean oil is food.
Homemade mayo (I use either olive or avocado oil) is not only much cheaper, but much more nutritious.
Yup, there certainly are liberties than can be taken with this meal plan, but as a base I think this is pretty solid.
