Keep a food journal – If you are serious about losing weight, maintain a diary where you document your daily diet, exercise, weight change and measurements. 7am (or whenever you wake up, as early as possible): Within 10 minutes of waking up, eat a fruit.
A sandwich (If the sandwich is really big, eat half at lunch and the other half after 2 hours).

In her office in the Mumbai suburb of Khar, Rujuta Diwekar read the news with a sense of vindication. As we proceed with the meal, Diwekar explains, “There have been many studies over the years that have shown how saturated fats are beneficial, even necessary, for our bodies. Diwekar rubbishes the fear that sugar is the big baddie of the food world, going so far as to list it as a “superfood” in her new book. This reverence for traditional Indian food wisdom, she says, is coded into her DNA, thanks to her family’s farming background.
She had always been an active girl, with an interest in sports and so it wasn’t such a stretch for her to contemplate a career in health. Close friend and client Kareena Kapoor who swears by Rujuta will fly from Switzerland to Mumbai especially for the launch of the book scheduled on the 15th January 2011. Kareena Kapoor was also present at the launch of Don't Lose Your Mind Lose Your Weight where she spoke about her journey to fitness and what it means to eat right and stay fit.
If that wasn't enough Kareena Kapoor has also lent her voice to the narration of the complementary audio-book where she address the working woman's problem of eating right and on time.
Says Rujuta "Kareena has been working around the clock on her films and so having her on board for the narration was out of question since I understood her busy schedule but when she casually found out about the audio-book she immediately wanted to narrate her own portion.

Interesting fact – Certain monks had an eating habit that restricted the amount of a meal to what would fit into the volume created when both hands were cupped together, hence the theory. But in case you do end up going on a binging spree one day, don’t go crazy on some “detox diet” for the next two days and think it will balance out. You can eat whatever you are used to, such as your own local food, just make sure it’s not a big portion.

Growing up, the Mumbaikar’s vacations were mostly spent on her grandfather’s farm in Vasai, where she would help out with farm work. But it was when she started her post-graduate course in Sports Science and Nutrition from SNDT in Mumbai in 1998, that her theories regarding nutrition started to take firmer shape.
She acknowledges this, saying, “It’s not too hard to convince Indians about the wisdom of eating traditionally, with emphasis on local and seasonal produce. This time around Kareena has another surprise for her fans -each book will have a hand written note by the star herself. Luckily the trauma doesn’t last more than a few weeks, but then again, neither does the weight-loss.

It’s not about steamed broccoli, boiled chicken, green tea, herbal shakes and counting calories. However, few things in this world are better than the sense of accomplishment after a good workout, or how energetic and positive you feel when you know you’re eating right and treating your body well. Eating every two hours also means you will never feel hungry, which in turn means you will not feel the need to over eat! Mangoes are better than cheesecake. Nuts, bananas, milk, avocados, ‘chapatis’ are all “good calories” that your body can certainly afford to consume. Instead, you can clear your conscience by exercising a little more for the previous day’s sins. When I was teaching in India, I would excuse myself from class for a few minutes to eat my nuts or an apple.

No matter what you are doing or how busy you are, you have got to take a few minutes out to put something into your system, no excuses.
