From cardiovascular strength to staving off osteoporosis, or fighting diabetes to supporting brain function, exercise is necessary to keep everything working optimally.
Regular exercise helps to maintain and lose weight, however, it might surprise you to know that studies have shown that increased amounts of exercise alone are not enough to sustain weight loss.
For long-term weight loss and to prevent gaining the weight back, what you eat counts for a lot more than what you do, since the more you exercise, the hungrier you become and the more likely you are to revert to old habits (3). Oddly enough, the more time people make for working out and being at the gym, the less time they spend in the kitchen and the more likely they are to choose quick and convenient options like frozen meals or takeout. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report that childhood obesity has more than doubled in children and quadrupled in adolescents in the past 30 years (5).
There is no doubt that part of that equation is the advent of the electronic age and the reduction in regular physical activity in children. Convenience-based processed and fast foods widely available in American homes and schools are stuffed with sugar, unhealthy fats, chemical additives, and empty calories. It should be a lifestyle, a change (series of many small changes, actually) that an individual or family can make over time, integrating them into regular daily living. In a real food diet, your taboo foods end up being things like trans fat, corn and soybean oil, white sugar, refined grains, and other junk that is just not food, at least not in its whole form. I have lost 73 lbs in the last year and real food has played a huge part, especially in the last two months after hitting a 2 month plateau.
As far as real food goes, I have cut out almost all processed foods and switched to whole grains such as Ezekiel bread. I make some of our yogurt and make all of our granola and homemade granola bars, starting with your recipe and making a few changes to suit our needs. We limit school lunches to once per week are noticing that the kids don’t even ask for that some weeks.
With what I have learned I was able to take my boys’ school to get them to change how they were doing pre-state testing snacks. The importance of meal planning mustn’t go unmentioned with real food, since from-scratch cooking is kind of prerequisite to not using processed foods.

I started with organic, traditional foods four well almost five years ago at 235 pounds with many health problems.
