I’m going to try and summarize the principles Rujuta talks about in her book (I apologize Ms D, if I do your masterpiece some serious injustice).
Losing or even maintaining your weight depends much more on what you put in to your body than how much you exercise, although a balance of both are undeniably crucial. Eat every 2 hours – Eating 6-7 slightly smaller meals through the day helps boost metabolism. Take advantage of the morning – Your metabolism is highest in the morning when you wake up. Do not deprive yourself – Unless you’re Victoria Beckham or a body builder on steroids, there is no need to simply cut out any food groups from your daily diet, just know when to eat it and in what quantity. Nutrition over calories – Counting calories is less important than the nutritional value of food.
Ditch detox diets – You are expected to use your discretion and make healthy choices. Eat whole fresh fruits – Eat lots of fruits everyday, but as in-between meals, not WITH your meals. Eat your greens – Green leafy vegetables are packed with vitamins, minerals and anti-oxidants.

You can eat whatever you are used to, such as your own local food, just make sure it’s not a big portion. Eating right is about so much more than just looking good and being vain. Trust me, you will feel so much lighter, more energetic, positive and alert right away.

Eating every two hours also means you will never feel hungry, which in turn means you will not feel the need to over eat!
Mangoes are better than cheesecake. Nuts, bananas, milk, avocados, ‘chapatis’ are all “good calories” that your body can certainly afford to consume.
Instead, you can clear your conscience by exercising a little more for the previous day’s sins. When I was teaching in India, I would excuse myself from class for a few minutes to eat my nuts or an apple.
