One other issue that I've noticed with other injuries that result in compensation is that the pain you do feel is not the pain of the injury at all but the pain of the response. That is why you just have to chill out and stop thinking you can control shit, let it all return to its natural state and let your self return to observation.
My tendency is to either protect or attack what seems to be the source of pain, but without experiencing the pain it is difficult to locate the source.
