Revit Worksets

Revit Worksets enable you to reduce the loading time of a Revit model, and control the visibility of different sections of a model or its links. In Clarity, historically, the task server would always force all worksets to be opened in order to ensure full visibility for tasks (such as PDFs).

Starting in Clarity 2019.1, Clarity enables you to control which worksets are opened when a model is opened to perform tasks. This capability is only available in selected tasks, and there are several nuances to the effects of how tasks may be combined.

To choose specific worksets for a particular task, click ... next to the Worksets field.

The Basic Tab

The worksets configuration dialog enables you to choose worksets in different ways. The Basic tab presents a list of known worksets, but only if you have run the RevitDBExport task on the project. Select ALL, NONE, or the set of worksets to specify when opening.

NOTE: If you have run the RevitDBExport task against multiple models, you will see ALL of the unique worksets that exist in multiple models.

The Advanced Tab

On the Advanced Tab, you can use wildcards to determine which worksets will be opened. You can use "*" as the wildcard character. It is also possible to have a NEGATIVE statement by using the "!" sign at the front of a line, to indicate the opposite.

For example:

*ARCH* - all worksets that contain "ARCH"
!*LINK* - all worksets that DO NOT contain "LINK"

Nuances of tasks

There are several things to remember when you choose worksets to run with tasks:

For individual/separate tasks, if two tasks specify different workset requirements, the tasks will not be claimed at the same time, and the required model is opened for each specific task. This means that the model will be opened multiple times, each for different tasks with different workset requirements.
For task sequences, the workset specified on the task sequence page overrides any specification on child tasks.
If you specify a workset that does not exist, the task server will put a note in the log, but will continue with any other worksets (unless none of the specified worksets match, in which case the task will be set to be an Error).
Model Metrics for the task server opening process: The Model Open Time will not be reported unless the model is opened with ALL worksets.
