I had the honor again of representing the Chapter during a half inning of the radio broadcast. As my assigned bottom of the 5th approached, I moved up from the stands to the box where I was met by a Squirrels staffer whose job was to escort me up to broadcast booth. Arriving up there, I was greeted by Jay Burnham, last year's #2 man behind Jon Laaser, who has moved up to #1 since Laaser has gone on to a position at Virginia Tech. Filling Burnham's former analyst position is Sam Ravech, the son of Karl Ravech, who some of us will recognize as a veteran broadcaster on ESPN. Taking the head phones from Sam, and settling into his seat beside Burnham in the tiny booth, in between Jay's description of the (very little) action on the field, I answered the usual questions --- “What is IFMA?”, “What does a Facility Manager do?”, “How many are in your Chap-ter?”, etc. With the Squirrels at bat, all three swinging at early pitches and making outs, with no walks or hits to extend the inning, my air time was very brief and it seemed like I hadn't even set-tled in before Jay was saying, “Kind of a brief visit this year, Bud, maybe next year we'll have a lit-tle more time” as I handed the head phones back to Sam and said my goodbyes. Definitely by far the shortest amount of air time of the several times I have had the assignment, and a bit of a dis-appointment. Back down to my seat in front of the ServPro box, where I stayed to the bitter end hoping the Squirrels might get something going (as most of our group gradually faded) as the score stayed at 5-0 with very little action on either side. Except for the game, a very pleasant evening at the ball park and I think a good time was had by all. A big THANK YOU to now past President Kathy Taylor for making the ServPro box available, and arranging for our seats in the stands to be right in front of it. 5 (Continued from page 4)
