Here's a guide to some of those who've been linked to the Sept. 11 plot.
THE LEADERS:
Osama bin Laden: fugitive Saudi who leads the terrorist group al-Qaida. Whereabouts unknown.
Khalid Shaikh Mohammed: The al-Qaida operative whom intelligence officials now believe directed the Sept. 11 attacks. Whereabouts unknown.
Mohammed Atef: Osama bin Laden's military chief. Believed to have been killed in a U.S. air raid on Kabul, Afghanistan.
Ayman al Zawahiri: top aide to Osama bin Laden. Whereabouts unknown.
Abu Zubaydah: al-Qaida training camp commander. Captured in Pakistan, now in U.S. custody at an undisclosed location.
THE HIJACKERS
Mohamed Atta: hijackers' leader in the United States. Piloted American Airlines Flight 11 into the North Tower of the World Trade Center. Presumed dead.
Ziad Samir Jarrah: believed to have one of the pilots who hijacked United Airlines Flight 93, which crashed in Pennsylvania. Presumed dead.
Khalid Almihdhar: believed to have been one of the pilots who flew American Airlines Flight 77 into the Pentagon. Presumed dead.
Nawaf Alhazmi: believed to have been the other pilot who crashed American Airlines Flight 77 into the Pentagon. Presumed dead.
Marwan al Shehhi: hijacker aboard United Airlines Flight 175, which crashed into the South Tower of the World Trade Center. Presumed dead.
Fayez Ahmed: hijacker on United Flight 175. Presumed dead.
Zacarias Moussaoui: Accused of being the 20th hijacker. Arrested in Minnesota in August 2001, now standing trial in Arlington, Va.
THE MONEYMEN:
Ramzi Binalshibh: lived with Atta in Germany and allegedly helped plan the attacks and send money to the hijackers. Whereabouts unknown.
Mounir el Motassadeq: Moroccan electrical engineering student who allegedly sent funds to the hijackers. Awaiting trial in Germany.
Moustaffa Ahmed al-Hawsawi (Sheikh Saiid): allegedly sent funds to hijackers. Whereabouts unknown.
THE RECRUITERS IN HAMBURG:
Mohammed Haydar Zammar: a locksmith who, investigators say, directed the hijackers to al-Qaida training camps. Arrested in Morocco; now in custody in Syria.
Al Fazazi: radical imam at the al Quds mosque in Germany. Living in Germany.
THE MALAYSIAN MEETING:
Tawfiq bin Atash: senior al Qaida member at the Malaysian organizational meeting. Whereabouts unknown.
Yazid Sufaat: owner of Kuala Lumpur apartment where the group met. Arrested while returning to Malaysia from Afghanistan.
Riduan Isamuddin (also known as Hambali): Indonesian who allegedly heads al-Qaida operations in Southeast Asia. Whereabouts unknown.
THE PHILIPPINE PLOTTERS
Abdul Hakim Murad: Pakistani pilot and bomb maker. Serving a life sentence in prison in the United States for his role in the 1995 plot to blow up U.S. airliners.
Ramzi Yousef: convicted in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing. Serving a life sentence in federal prison in Florence, Colorado.
