RIYADH - Saudi Arabia's King Fahd has appointed the former interior minister, Prince Nawaf Ben Abdel Aziz, the new head of the kingdom's intelligence services, an official report said Friday.
The king issued a decree appointing Aziz, who is also his brother, to the post and relieving his predecessor Prince Turki al-Faisal "at his request," said the official SPA news agency. No other information was provided on the changes to the intelligence services, which come after a series of bombing and a pair of deadly skirmishes on the Iraqi border.
Three British men confessed earlier this month to three bomb blasts in the kingdom between December 2000 and March 2001 which were believed to be linked to alcohol bootlegging in the "dry" Gulf monarchies.
A Saudi man was also killed in a border clash with Iraqi troops last week, and Saudi border guards killed an Iraqi in another clash in May.
