This is a very simple diet plan anyone can follow to burn fat while maintaining muscle mass.
If fat loss is the goal, females can use the same supplements as listed in the general fat loss section. I have been told that low carbs is the best diet for fat loss but whenever I consume a few more carbohydrates than normal I feel as though I get gain weight. Low-carbohydrate diets can sometimes be the best diet for fat loss but they do have a tendency to dehydrate the body. With any low-calorie diet, people should lose weight, especially those diets that keep a tight control on insulin and blood sugar fluctuations. Taken in parts, the Atkins Diet has proved itself to be one of the best diets for fat loss. If you eat more calories than you expend in energy, then anything can be stored as fat – protein, fat or carbohydrate. It is important that we keep in mind that every diet has the potential to result in fat loss, no matter how realistic or unrealistic it may be. You shouldn’t be eating them to excess, but unless you have a food allergy (which is more common than many realise with wheat and dairy products) they can still be eaten whilst on a restricted calorie diet. There is no question that a reduction of calorie intake coupled with high-level energy expenditure results in weight loss (all other factors being equal).
People with a higher percent of body fat will lose more fat and retain more muscle with a significant calorie deficit. People with a lower percent of body fat will lose more muscle and retain more fat with a significant calorie deficit.


Here’s a little bit of historical science behind the accepted caloric value of protein, carb, and fat in the diet. Low carb diets facilitate the loss of glycogen stores and associated water, which can be as great as 4.4 pounds. Because the energy expenditure is minimal, however, it may account for less than one-third of the differences in the weight losses reported between high-protein or low-carb diets and high-carb or low-fat diets. But because glucagon is still in short supply, the body does not tap into its fat supply for energy.
My advice would be to consult a registered dietician or a nutrition specialist for specific diet recommendations based on your fat loss goals. We don’t recommend Atkins style diets other than for very short periods of time and only for very specific reasons (such as photo shoots or making weight for a competition). The type of protein, carb, and fat must be considered as well as how the body processes them. Even if your goal is to gain weight (muscle), there are certain dos and don’ts the dietician can address.
The best diet for this type of requirement would be one that takes out processed foods and starts to look at drinking more fruit juices. This is where the body is going to have less pressure put on it and you will be able to eat more while losing fat at the same time.
